I can understand why some aren't blown away by that trailer. But between the Guardians trilogy and Peacemaker, james gunn has earned the benefit of the doubt.

I've come to accept that...

- While the cinematography at least looks better than the 30-second spot they released yesterday, the overall look simply isn't my thing. It's just way too flat/digital/CW, while the production design is somehow both bland *and* too comic-book-y for my taste.

- On that same note, I'm not a fan of the suit at all. It was starting to grow on me a bit, but now, actually seeing it in action, and especially in that shot of Superman in the fetal position in the snow, it just looks way too loose/baggy - to the point of appearing almost denim at times - and for the life of me I can't figure out how or why anyone involved in this ever thought it looked good.

And yet, despite those things... the music... the hope... the optimism... Krypto the dog... and damn near everything else still have me believing I'm going to leave the theater thoroughly entertained. If anything, this will at least be fun as hell, and at the end of the day I guess that's all that matters. I'm just such a visual person that all that stuff really matters to me, but with Gunn at helm I'm confident the story and characters will ultimately win me over.

They need to try something new. And a dog is not it.

I wish they went along the line of The Greatest American Hero (show from the early 80s). Start from a young age and have him slowly learn his powers.

In addition, have some actual character development that shows why he didn't grow into tyrannical super king of the world. Make people get pissed at him because they lost a loved one and he can't save EVERYBODY, and make him struggle with that. Have the government try to recruit them to fight with them in a war. Have people worship him as a god, and he try to convince them that he is not one and has nothing there to offer.

There are so many complex things they could do, but they always resort to changing the suit and making him more and more powerful. He's too powerful now, and it's boring.

The trailer literally opens with him bleeding and defeated, yet your primary complaint is that he's "too powerful," a complaint for which there's zero evidence in the trailer itself.

Same goes for your complaint about a lack of character development, when nothing in the trailer suggests there won't be character development. Granted, Gunn has said this isn't an origin story, so we're likely not going to see Clark learning his powers, but that's because we've already seen that stuff multiple times now.

You also say "make people get pissed at him" without acknowledging the pissed off crowd Superman wades through and the guy who throws a can at his head.

Did you accidentally watch a different trailer?

Did you watch the trailer at all?

His character is supposed to be a massive self-absorbed *******. The haircut does a great job of getting that across.

Every once in a while, though, he has a post that's such a ridiculous head scratcher that I have to come out of aTmAg-hate retirement to say WTF.

That's actually been done. A lot. There was an entire series that did this which is probably why Gunn didn't do this. It's also been done in montage scenes in all other Superman films. So, I'm not going to ding Gunn on that one because it's fairly predictable what that would look like anyway.

Here is a stupid take from me though....I hated that brief shot of his Kansas home and his Dad. That looked so low rent that it turned me off. There is nothing logically wrong with it; I just hated the way it looked. No idea why.

All in all, I do not like the visuals of this film at all so far. That quick scene of him saving the kid was cool but this looks so...flat.

I can definitely relate to some of these comments talking about the emotional connection to Superman and the bond it created between them and their parents. My mother lost her battle with cancer 10 years ago and while she was going through chemo, we went to see our last movie together: Man of Steel. Before that, we went to see Superman Returns together. And before that...well, you get the picture. One of my earliest memories is my mom putting our VHS copy of Superman:The Movie into the VCR and watching it together. I thought about many of those memories while watching the trailer today and, well, it got to me. This will be the first true Superman movie I've watched without her. I hope with all my might this movie is great and connects with kids today so they can grow up having similar experiences watching this movie with their parents. Superman brings hope and I was pumped full of hope after watching the trailer today.

Great trailer imo, and wasn't sure what to expect.

Lost my dad a couple months ago and even the super quick scene with his dad hit me pretty good.

Most of that comment is one I have been saying for years. It's a complaint about the franchise as a whole over the last few decades.

Regarding this trailer, the dog, the fire breathing dragon, and the dude with a goofy haircut make me say WTF? Even if they make Superman more vulnerable, I don't think I'm going to be able to overcome all of that crap.

I prefer the notion of a lone expat from another country trying to make his way through a new world. Don't turn this into a DC version of end game.

And I cannot think of a superman origin story. Are you talking about the TV shows? Because I have never watched those. I wish they would do it in the movies.

just had a realization....is this the first movie/installment for this new re-booted DC universe?

or was the first movie for this "The Batman" which would make the HBO penguin show the first 2 installments?

after coming in way late on the MCU and not even bothering with the prior DC stuff.....think i might want to try and get in on this one from the start.....

Hard disagree. Superman is the ultimate Boy Scout/good guy. He's good because of nature AND nurture, not in spite of one. In today's super cynical world, we need someone as altruistic and powerful as Superman.

I liked Man of Steel a lot, but what they're going for (based on this trailer) is the right way to go with Superman.

As of now, The Batman is part of a separate universe, officially under the "Elsewords" designation, which are WB/DC stories that take place outside of the main DCU. There are rumors that Gunn MIGHT combine the two, but it's unlikely at this point.

While Superman is the first live-action title in the DCU, technically Creature Commandos, the new animated series on Max, is the first official DCU entry, and takes place prior to the events in Superman.

I think it was mentioned/discussed here that The Batman and this Superman are not in the same universe or something, so they would never interact like in the Justice League or whatever.

Which sucks for me because I LOVE the JL and it'll never go beyond the one movie in the previous iteration. Seeing some of the side characters in this movie does give me hope that we'll see the JL again in this universe.(IMO, I think they picked the wrong GL, but we'll see. I'm not familiar with the Guy Gardner version.)
