I'm guessing, officially, it will be in theaters with Warner Bros' The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim on December 13, but could be online as early as the first week of December. So we're talking just a couple of weeks from now, potentially.

Either way, I can't remember the last time I was this curious what a blockbuster is going to look/feel like.

This is the second new LOTR movie I've heard about in the last few hours. How many new LOTR movies are there?

This one's an animated thing. One that doesn't look very good, IMO…

Grillo plays Rick Flag, Sr., who will be in both Creature Commandos and Superman, who is also, essentially, the father of Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag character from the Suicide Squad movies, even though those take place in the DCEU.

Alan Tudyk is in the movie in a "secret role' - hoping for Brainiac Regardless. if James Gunn wants to win my endorsement, I need a Tudyk/Fillion Serenity reunion somewhere since Fillion is GL.

Once again, this is actually a Nathan Fillion GL movie in which Superman appears.

He kind of hesitates/chuckles when he says "family friendly." That, and something like this can be "relatively serious" but also not feature any language/graphic violence and thus be "family friendly" in that sense.

I feel like this is what we've been missing with the more modern interpretations of Superman.

Don't modernize him or make him dark and gritty, give us Supes fighting giant robots in defense of truth, justice, and the American way.

It's probably not happening, but I could see Tudyk doing a reasonably good job as Mister Miracle.

Agreed. They dabbled in some of that in the stellar opening Krypton sequence in Man of Steel (and also a bit in the third act) but I want it to be a big presence throughout one of these movies, which it sounds like we're finally getting.

If this is true, then I now can't wait for it. Man of Steel was arguably the best Superman movie to date.

I'm a little worried that Gunn's hyperbole around this film is going to create unattainable expectations though.

That happens all the time, or so it seems, with most big movies.

My biggest concern about this Superman movie is the apparent inclusion of Superdog, but then I remember that Gunn took a talking raccoon and made him awesome, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Superman: The Movie is the best Superman movie to date, but I'll give Man of Steel the nod over Superman II.

It does happen all the time but I haven't seen it this much from the Director of the film. Granted, I'm following a detailed thread on a specific movie so this level of hyperbole by a Director may be totally normal and I'm oblivious to it with other movies.

True on Rocket but still skeptical of the dog. Krypton was in Teen Titans and wasn't too stupid or obstructive in that so maybe it will be ok here.

Man of Steel has more than a nod over Superman II. Man of Steel is an Oscar worth film and Superman II is the worst fan fiction crap of all time in comparison. Superman II is unwatchable.

Yeah, I probably should have not said 'nod'. Summer of 81 was great - Raiders of the Lost Ark and Superman II were my favorites that I saw probably 5 times each. Last time I watched Superman II, oof. Did not stand the test of time at all. The Richard Donner cut wasn't much better either.

Agreed. Loved Superman II as a kid. Rewatched it a couple of years ago and was floored how utterly awful it was. Complete garbage.

They need to get some sort of media out soon for this movie. It comes out in 7 months and all we've got is one crappy picture that got memed in 10 seconds. Nobody I know outside of this message board among my group of friends who typically would be down to go see a movie like this even know it's coming out.

After Superman's painful last few appearances - BvS, Justice League, Black Adam cameo, it's weird they aren't giving people something to get excited about.

My maybe all time favorite tweet seems to have been deleted which is disappointing, but it still shows up in search results:

Quote:

DC/WB is all like "Wonder Woman's too confusing for a movie!" and Marvel/Disney is all like "Here's a raccoon with a machine gun".

I mean, people love a talking tree more than Superman at this point

Which feels almost painful to say
