If accurate, CCXP in Brazil is December 5-8, which feels exactly right for a first trailer drop for a big July blockbuster. Online that weekend, then in theaters with the big December movies - The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - over the next couple of weeks...

Rough century is probably too kind.

Superman: The Movie is legitimately one of the best superhero movies ever made.
Superman II was fun at the time of its release, but time has not been kind to it.
Superman III was laughably bad.
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is legitimately one of the worst movies ever made.
Superman Returns was a good movie, good cast, but did we need Superman with a child?
Man of Steel is fantastic.
Batman Versus Superman: Dawn of Justice gets crapped on mercilessly but it is actually one of the best superhero movies.
Justice League: nothing could save this steaming pile of crap.
Zach Synder's Justice League: the movie that should have been released but understandably, Snyder couldn't finish at the time. Superman in this one was just another character, but pivotal and his return from death was done just about perfectly.

So 4 forgettable, bad, or terrible outings, with another not getting the praise it should have.

With Gunn's comic track record, I trust him to deliver with Superman.

Official, high-quality image. I'm still not a fan of the collar (Superman's, not Krypto's), but I love everything else about this... the vibe, the lighting, etc...

Are Superman and Krypto sitting on the Moon? If so, that's not how big the Earth appears from the Moon. If it did we'd have huge problems that Superman shouldn't be sitting around with his dog watching.

Is this a Superman / Moonfall crossover with Roland Emmerich secretly directing?

Nah. It'll be a remake of Armageddon, without the drillers.

Not sure how I feel about Krypto being in this. Hokey as hell, but then Gunn's take on DC so far has been pretty out there.

I don't have a problem with an F bomb. In this context, it just seems lazy, or maybe like he's pandering

Personal preference.

This is the sort of thing Gunn just nails, going back to all of the initial content for Guardians of the Galaxy.
He has the confidence to leak this image, and know he is going to deliver the goods with the movie.

I just saw this post. "Let him save a school bus full of students".

Hmmm. Checks notes.

Yep, that's been done, at least twice.

First in Superman: The Movie when Superman is racing to fix the damage caused by the bomb hitting the San Andreas fault line, he prevents a bus full of kids from falling off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Second in Man of Steel when young Clark Kent pulls a bus full of students out of a lake after it plunged off a bridge after a wreck.

One of the better scenes of the film. He saves everyone, uses his powers in full sight, saves the kid who has bullied him relentlessly, and Jonathan Costner Kent has the pretty interesting moral dilemma of how to actually keep him safe and hidden when he has the power to do almost anything.
As much of a detractor of I've been to what did DC did to Cavill over the past 10+ years, my 2 fervent hopes for the new movie are the same 2 dead horses.

1) That they show how powerful Superman truly is.
2) That you leave the theater, regardless of age, fervently wishing that Superman was real.

Yup, not to mention taking characters you really don't care about and somehow making them someone you would defend to the death. Which makes me really intrigued to see how Krypto fits in.

I read a pretty interesting tweet that the reason they're jamming this thing full of Justice League members is to see who resonates with the audience and who doesn't to go forward with the team for second stage stand alone movies and future teamups. Sounds like another DC shortcut to reach Marvel level, but not a bad idea.

In the current climate they really don't need to shortcut to Marvel. Gunn did say he won't just put a character into something for gratuity; that each character has an actual role in the story.

Plus those are more JSA/JLI types. It's not like they're throwing Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, etc. into the movie.

Well I guess this is about a 9 hour movie then considering we've heard like 20 superfriends are in it?

Marvel was able to have like 30 named characters in the later Avengers movies because they had done the ground work to earn that ability. Seems like DCU wants to cheat and the throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

https://www.polygon.com/features/2014/3/10/5451014/street-fighter-the-movie-what-went-wrong

For some reason I remember these anecdotes from the production of The Streat Fighter movie....
"Capcom wanted to include the game's entire roster, but de Souza knew that doing so dividing screentime between a dozen-plus characters would cripple the story. At a stalemate, de Souza asked the room a simple question: How many of the seven dwarves can you name? No one could name all seven.

How many of the seven dwarves can you name? No one could name all seven.

"There's a reason there's seven dwarves," says de Souza, "There's a reason there's seven wonders of the world. There's a reason it's the Magnificent Seven, which is a remake of the Japanese movie The Seven Samurai. Seven is the number of characters an audience can keep in its head at any time." So the writer set seven as a compromise, and Capcom, persuaded by the parlor trick, agreed to the limit."
....
"Shortly into the casting process, Capcom reps informed de Souza that they wanted two more fighters added to the film. De Souza exhausted by casting, writing and prep acquiesced. The writer still regrets not standing his ground, because the requests continued: two more; then two more; then two more. Capcom scrapped the initial "seven dwarves" agreement.

In a call with de Souza, the writer runs the math. Ninety minutes divided by 15 characters is about six minutes per character. Upon hearing himself say the results, he lets loose a loud, sharp, almost maniacal laugh."

I disagree with the notion that you have to build out characters as you introduce them, especially with this movie laying the foundation for the whole universe. In this universe, superheroes already exist and have already teamed up in various forms. In Marvel's it was a slow process. If BvS was any good, nobody would have said they had too many characters. I think people just want good movies, regardless of how many characters are in it, as long as they all have purpose.

Very obviously this is a Superman movie first and will flesh out Superman while still showing us other superheroes and villains. Other characters existing doesn't mean they have to spend 10 minutes giving their backgrounds.

Not to mention that's operating under the very flawed logic that every character needs equal depth and screen time. There are dozens of new characters in every movie, some we get to know intimately and some only on a surface level.

Also: Dopey, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Grumpy, Happy, and Doc.
