Looks like they changed the title to just Superman and dropped Legacy

I was really beginning to get used to the Legacy moniker, but just Superman is definitely cleaner/more iconic.

It's a good idea for marketing, because Legacy is one of those words that gets slapped onto really bad direct to sci-fi channel movies but there's only one Superman.

This would be the first movie with that title.

Makes me want to watch the original. Haven't seen it in so long.

I just noticed that Man of Steel is only 56% on RT. That is absurd.

I get what you're saying, but I'm gonna say you are incorrect.

Opening credits of 1978's Superman: The Movie:

There is no ": The Movie" in the title in the actual movie.

Oh, and I don't believe there has ever been a more awesome opening title sequence in any movie ever.

I know you were born in like 2007, but there is definitely a movie called Superman from a long time ago.

It was also marketed as Superman: The Movie because superheroes were relegated to TV, cartoons, radio serials and comics previously.

But look it up on IMDB and you'll see that your snark is, this time at least, not accurate.

This. It very much was known and talked about as "Superman the Movie".

Both posters simply have "Superman" as the title in the official credits at the bottom. TPE is right, "The Movie" was merely an added moniker for marketing purposes only...

I'm just annoyed the thread title is no longer accurate.

It's not. It's OK to be wrong.
Independence Day was marketed as ID4, but that's not the name of the movie either.

Gen Xer here, we did not say "the movie" when talking about it.

Wasnt the Tenet thread originally "Nolan's next movie" or something? I'm sure staff could change it if we flag a post about wanting to change it to drop Legacy

I recall the marketing of it this way, but no red blooded Gen X'er called it Superman The Movie.

Just saying that out loud would have been open season for ridicule.

The more I think about it, people might get confused if the thread title is just "SUPERMAN." This at least differentiates it as the new movie, we've already had it for a few months, etc.

Marketing.

As has been pointed out by multiple posters including me, the title in the actual movie is simply Superman. No one referred to it as Superman: the Movie.

Doesn't matter what people call it. It's the name of the movie on the cover, because it's the name of the movie.

Looks better than I thought, too. I never at all doubted him as a villain, his acting ability, etc, but I was curious whether he'd be able to pull off the bald, menacing look.

He definitely does.

It is not the name of the movie.

Look at my earlier post with the opening credits and point out where it includes the punctuation and words that are not in the title.

Funny cause there's another example of this, the title shown in Furious 7 is Fast & Furious 7, which is not the title of the movie.

DVD's aren't marketing material. The title on the cover (and the posters) is the title.

I contend posters and DVD covers are marketing. And I will maintain, rightly, that the title in the actual movie is in fact the movie's title. And in this case, it is Superman.

What does the jury want to see here? Pieces of paper hanging on a wall, or the actual movie?

It's amazing that you keep posting this stuff, while blatantly ignoring all the other imagery and video we've posted that points to the exact opposite. What's official is what's in the credits. End of discussion. That stuff is endlessly poured over by legal, negotiated by lawyers, etc. And every single poster/piece physical media, along with the opening of the movie itself, has "Superman" in the credits. In this instance, "The Movie" basically fills the same role as the tagline. It's purely marketing and nothing more.

You mean like you're ignoring every single image I've posted?

Also, didn't realize RT makes a habit of posting movie taglines in the title.

The difference is, we're acknowledging what you're posting, but then literally proving, point-by-point, how you're wrong.

You're just posting movie posters and DVD covers and smiley face emojis.

Also, Rotten Tomatoes isn't official. They can call the movie whatever the hell they want. Case in point, notice how they reference Edge of Tomorrow in the url and in searches, by including its TAGLINE - Live. Die. Repeat - in the title as well...

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/live_die_repeat_edge_of_tomorrow

Regardless, literally all that matters is what WARNER BROS calls it, and we've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they LEGALLY call the movie "Superman" and nothing more.

You are the only one digging. I provided footage from the actual movie, which ends the debate. None of the stuff you have posted is what anyone will look at regarding a 40+ year old movie. They will just watch the movie, which as already established beyond any shadow of doubt, is Superman.
Brian Earl Spilner
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, they call it Superman: The Movie, as seen on every single piece of physical media, every poster, and on their official site as I linked above.

Not in the CREDITS.

The CREDITS are ALL that matter.

And they ALL have just SUPERMAN in the credits. Not a world about "The Movie."
