At least we finally have some news. Online mid-July, then in theaters with Deadpool & Wolverine on the 26th...

There are so many awesome stories you can tell in ancient Rome. My hopes are high for this one.
Thanks and gig'em

Like a Braveheart sequel I don't know how this could possibly live up to the first especially without Crowe (or Gibson). I'm willing to check it out. Sort of a mix of very excited but very apprehensive.

Can't wait...but definitely messing with perfection here. And just realized no Hans Zimmer for the score (Im sure that's been mentioned on here but haven't read the whole thing). That's some big shoes and holes to fill.

Until this sequel, Gladiator conceivably the best soundtrack for a movie that wasn't part of a series / franchise?

Definitely in contention for top spot, maybe Last of the Mohicans and perhaps Interstellar? Just 2 off of the top of my head real quick that would be up there for me personally.

But that's a whole other thread/topic that's been done along with some voting components as well

Off the top of my head, short listers would be

ET
The Social Network
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Braveheart

Definitely in that conversation.

E.T., Gladiator, Interstellar, Titanic

Those are fighting it out unless I'm missing something obvious.

Please stop putting rap music in trailers for something that shouldn't have rap. It just doesn't work.

It'll either be awesome or laughable.

Also this feels a little too much like the first one.

A roman citizen (Lucius/Maximus) somehow goes from a high standing (Nephew of Emperor/Top General in the army) to a gladiator while apparently losing a woman he loves (girl soldier/wife) who has a mentor (Denzel/Proximo) who hates the new ruler (Pascal/Commodus) and then they eventually battle to the death in the arena while Connie Nielsen watches from the stands.

There is also some big battle with the Roman army that I can only assume starts the hate between Lucius and Pascal's character.

Agree on both points. Seems like the exact same movie, but with worse music.

I'll let you guys see it and then tell me if it's worth the time or not. I typically hate remakes, and this feels more like a remake than sequel/continuation of the story.

The music makes this whole thing look like an inauthentic cash grab.

And they showed the entire movie. Big fight at the end, I wonder who wins? Plot twist! They both die, and one of them sees his family again in the afterlife.

This feels very Force Awakens-esque.

I can see why people would think this on first glance.

But my impression from the trailer is Lucius and Pascal's characters are both caught in the middle of the power grab between the Emperor (clearly not Pascal's character) and Denzel Washington's character (seems mentor-like initially, but I think it reveals that he has ulterior motives and craves power himself). Somehow Pascal's character becomes a gladiator. And he clearly states at the end that he's tired of sending men to die for Rome's ego...it could be that he turns out to be more Maximus-like than meets the eye.

Yes, they show Lucius and Pascal's characters facing off, but I don't think that necessarily means they end up being enemies...and that would be too convenient of a 'tease' that it's the two of them in the final battle. I think there's a lot more to the story than what they're showing. Could be wrong, but that's what I'm sensing.

Either way, I'm definitely in.
