Interesting they made no mention of Champions league. I guess they didn't want to confuse the average American.

Okay, here's another question for the room: Regarding the soccer season, do you think Richmond

A) wins the final game and the league championship
B) loses the final game and the championship
C) it's left ambiguous

I think the writers are going to hit us with a FNL montage ending. Outcome of the game might be alluded to but not obvious/happening on screen and then we see characters moving on with their next steps while some dramatic music (or maybe a Trent Crimm voiceover) plays in the background.
Don't know if it'll play into the story or not, but Man City also need to lose or draw for Richmond to with the championship.

Were City one or two points ahead prior to the match? I couldn't remember what they had said.

They said before the match that City were 4 points ahead. So they would still be 1 point ahead with 1 game to play.

I didn't rewatch the whole episode but Arlo said before the game that "City can clinch with a win today but a loss makes it very interesting for next week".

So unless I'm missing something that just means City has at least a 1 point lead. For example

Before Richmond match

City 92
Richmond 91

City wins

City 95
Richmond 91

No way Richmond can catch them in the final day even if City loses then and Richmond wins.

Richmond wins the league and then the show has a final montage of Trent Crimm reading part of his book while the players move on to whatever comes next, then the show ends with Ted smiling and/or hugging his son.

Well, crap. City never lose two in a row at this stage of the season. Richmond is hosed.

Soooo many Wizard of Oz references this episode. Just layers of character growth that all are hitting perfectly.

Really excited that they're potentially going to stick the landing with this.

What do y'all think the mistresses wanted to talk to Rebecca about?

My wife and I are talking about all the references we could find as the references have been going since the very first episode.

We just realized his ex wife Michelle and son Henry are a throw back to Uncle Henry and Auntie Em…

Another great episode. So many different things going on.

Anyone think Roy and Keely in that tunnel with the flickering lights was a reference to Harry Potter?

I was wondering if that was the tunnel that Jamie's dad and friends kicked Coach's butt and if it was going somewhere.

Worst end possible is it's all been a Wizard of Oz style dream. However, there hasn't been enough critique of the gold standard for that to be true.

I'm currently in the process of relocating to Sydney for a few years and am here right now, their emphasis on the Australians having the sex and not Ted's mom was hysterical.
Those are Australian backpackers probably on a gap year.
That's not how it goes down in Sydney.
Not to say that there aren't opportunities.

Here's an oldy but a goodie that you can use as a roadmap when you get there.
Be sure to skip the late night kebabs in Crows Nest - that's always a good idea at 3 am but becomes a terrible idea after 5 am and most of the next day.

I've had no problem with Nate's arc. He's struggled with feelings of inadequacy since the beginning of the show; it's been clear that he's been uncomfortably searching for his identity throughout the first 2 seasons. He thought he could be ruthless in season 3, but realized that it's an empty kind of life by being around Rupert instead of Ted. My only complaint is that the season's structure hasn't allowed everyone's story to breathe a bit more.

Agree with this, and it's why I'm frustrated with the Keely situation. Almost two episodes' worth of runtime on her and Jack that went nowhere, and she's really no different now than before.

That time could have been used much more effectively
Pretty funny that we got a lesbian soccer relationship disaster story in a show about a men's side.

Conversely, we've had no relationship development stories for either of our two main gay male characters.

Didn't care for Nate or Ted's Mom stories.

Loved the entire Jamie story. Maybe too much.
Best part was after seeing Roy's poster on the wall, closing the door to reveal Keeley's poster.
I could definitely relate to Jamie losing his spark. The past 3 years of Covid in Los Angeles have killed the drive I had pre-2020.

In the opening sequence, I loved the old lady walking down the street in a nice dress in the morning, carrying her heels from last night. Used to see that all the time in Sydney.

Well, and the tunnel for the Beard post-FA cup episode where he gets jumped is in London and not Manchester…

I think Ted's moms story is super important here. He obviously takes after his mom, since he lost his dad when he was young. I feel like because she never address the loss of her husband, she use humor and "faking it till she made it" as a defense mechanism.

Its the little things that i love about this show. Roy saying "you missed a good one" to Will and Will's disappointment that he wasnt a fly on the wall again was great.

the kabob bit throughout, to the recurring bit of Keeley in the hotel rooms, all the horror references. fantastic.

Beard doing his best Roy Kent "FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" was solid

But also, a little thing like Ted's mom liking tea, when Ted has made so much about hating the yucky brown water, i thought was another great yet subtle callback.

btw, when Nate got fired, were they alluding to the restaurant owner doing coke? thought that also was a subtle, but realistic bit for anyone that worked in the restaurant biz. especially after the couple at the table wondering which drugs derailed Nate's career, lol

Favorite aside in the episode:

During the hotel movie night - You see Tom Hanks walking up to Meg Ryan. I say aloud "Hmm- they're watching Sleepless in Seattle.. no wait...I think that is You Got Mail.."

Then Ted chimes in nonchalantly "Yeah well, Sleepless in Seattle is still a superior film..."

I legit LOL'd

Good head fake when, just for a second you wondered about Jamie's relationship with his mom when he was laying on her lap and she was brushing his hair…the raised eyebrows from Roy and Keeley, especially when Jamie's dad took them away for a tour of the house…

And, "I'm staying frozen in this position so I don't jinx the team"

Only part I winced every time Ted said F you to his mom. I get it, it's a show but man, I can't even imaging someone saying that to their mom.

Gonna miss this show.

That scene is actually brilliant when you think how far Ted has come for him to say what he really thinks. He has realized that a large part of his panic attacks and anger derived from his mom's inability to be honest with him. This was the only internal block left for Ted to resolve in my opinion. Him missing his son is the other part which has been hinted at throughout the show.

This outburst was also partly due to his talk with Jamie beforehand where Jamie says he would tell his dad F U, and also thank you.
