Yep; more weirdness that makes little sense if they are in the wild:

-Tube TV on an AV cart on top of a cliff with no apparent power source or cord running Milchick's video (why wasn't he there in person to greet them)

-Dead seal in the mountains?

-Irv sleeps in frigid temps unprotected and uncovered all night, lost in the woods? No hypothermia? No search party?

-Skeptical Outies would agree to be driven out to a barren national forest (abandoned on a cliff top or the middle of an icy lake) to transition to innie life for 2 days?

I think Helena was hoping to seduce Mark with imagined/fake VR sex to distract him from the Gemma search; like Irv's hall pass and Dylan's family room perk distractions….

One thing I've come to expect from this show is that every little detail comes back in some way. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in season 3 we're all saying "THAT DEAD SEAL IN THE MOUNTAINS!"

I just started watching a few weeks ago, and just caught up. This show reminds me of Dark. The details are astoundingly well-thought out and the plot points/reveals are all well-earned. Definitely a show where I'll just enjoy the ride and not read too much into online theories.

Tensions are simmering. Seeing some layers with Milcheck. Who is Irving talking to via payphone? Poor Helly, Hang in there! Let Ms Huang play her Theremin at the bereavement!

I find it really interesting that Irving's Outie seems pretty convinced that his Innie was doing something on the inside. But having watched Irving's Innie over the first season and a half, we've only really seen him break away from being a company man when Helly and Burt came onto the scene (affected by his Innie experiences, rather than his Outie's influence).

You combine that with Irvin's Innie seeing paint fall from the ceiling, and drawing the elevator in his notepad, it's almost like Outie Irving has figured out how to send some kinds of messages to his Innie self, or maybe went through some very early reintegration attempt?

I think outtie Irv was hoping and just buying time. And the repetition and perfect placement of things for when his innie did come, he was ready. I think outtie Irv worked at Lumon unsevered which is how he knows about the elevator.

Also he was sending a message by blaring loud Motörhead music and drinking coffee at night. To make himself tired. Innie Irv would doze off (punished when he did) and then his conscious would take over. That's why they don't let them sleep because they can't control the dreaming.

Hence why at the retreat Irving figured out it was Helena because of his dreams.

It's definitely an alternate timeline of some kind. Mid-80s cars and cell phones, a state abbreviated with PE, etc...

Whether it's actually 2085 or not is anyone's guess.

Just went back and watched, he's sniffling too and it's not quite as heavy of a cough. It's also right after they showed him crying in the car, so it seems like they at least want you to think it's because his outie was just crying.

Decided to rewatch season 1 and it seems obvious now but there are so many subtle or overt comments that aren't the truth but aren't far from the truth. Like Mark's comment to Helly at her onboarding:

Helly: "Am I livestock?"
Mark: "You think we grew a full human and gave you consciousness?"

Maybe the US ends up like Cuba, where their only option is to keep repairing & refurbishing old cars.

But honestly, I'm guessing it's intentional by the writers so each viewer can sort of fill in the blanks with their own location & time period. Like, I thought the setting was Pennsylvania. My husband thought Minnesota. Someone else we know that watches it thought Oregon. And I think the writers did that on purpose, much like the movie Se7en. I'd assume they're doing the same with the timeline.

Interesting tidbit that can't be coincidence. Leon Theremin, a Russian sp/inventor, invented the Theremin, the device played by Ms Huang. He anlso invited something called "the thing", a listening device that was in the U.S. ambassadors Moscow office. Cobel calls her office door "the thing" in S1, which always struck me as odd. He is also tied to Russian secret research.

Leon had a sister named…..Helena….
He had two daughters named Natalia (Natasha) and Lena (Helena/Elena)

Interestingly, he also married a black woman but claimed no children with her. - an interesting tie in with Natalie

Ricken's daughter - Eleanor
Former Lumon CEO - LEONore

Edgar Allen Poe has a poem called Leonore about a grieving husband who believes he'll meet his dead wife again in the afterlife - similar to the story Ms Selvig/Cobel tells about her husband building a home in the afterlife, including an apartment for her second man.

Lastly on this string, Myrtle Eagan looks an awful lot like Cobel. The eyes. Cobel attended the Myrtle Eagan school for girls. Cobel has a close up line that seemed significant which she whispers to the camera "Vision. Verve. Wit. Cheer. Humility. Benevolence. Nimbleness. Probity. Wiles." It is a quote of Myrtle's seen in the perpetuity wing.

The depth of this show is astounding. Many such strings you can pull on like this

Edit to point out that Mark wears a Russian watch, Gemma was a Russian lit prof, all of the Lumon architecture is quite brutalist / Russian, many of the cars are Cold War period, and even the Kier relief engraving looks quite a lot like Lenin (who Theramin met and played for)

Interesting connections! The only one I had noticed was the huge mural that resembles Lenin.

The Poe poem you are talking about is "The Raven," in which the lost love is named Lenore.

Also, I'm a watch nerd and noticed back in S1 that Mark has a Vostok soviet airborne watch, which is odd. They still make them for cheap so I didn't clock it as important, but this extra Russian stuff makes it more interesting.

Noticed that too. I have an old Vostok submariner version, and a Poljot Russian Navy anniversary watch. Neither work anymore, sadly.

I thought it was interesting that Burt mentioned a trip to Milwaukee unless I completely misheard what he said. I always wondered what kind of world they were in- but this sort of implies they're in the United States, right?

One of Helly's questions when she woke up on the conference room table was a question about Delaware or something. I mean, I guess they could ask that question in Canada. But Canada is the only other country that makes sense for this to be set in besides the US. If strictly because of the accents.
