Finished my season 1 rewatch. Glad I did as there was a lot I forgot about.

May start listening to the Defiant Jazz playlist on Spotify during my commute to the office next week…

Just finished my rewatch of the season one finale, and it's still one of the best episodes of television of the past decade. Hell, maybe of all time. Just absolutely perfect, edge-of-your-seat execution of such an awesome, mind-bending (no pun intended) idea.

Bring on Thursday.

I'm finishing my first watch of Succession, just started 3 weeks ago, then I'd ideally like to rewatch Severance Season 1. I initially watched it well after it's release, so I haven't been delayed as long as some others, but I still forget details. Glad to hear the reviews are good because I've been looking forward to it.

Finished a rewatch of season 1 yesterday. Such a great show. Really holds up on rewatch. Lots of details I had forgotten about. The 9 episodes go by fast. The finale is still a fantastic episode.

Ready for Thursday.

I've now seen enough of these reactions that it doesn't feel like hype. They feel like the real deal. So far it all comes across as genuine, as opposed to that breathless, buzzwordy, group think, but we shall see…

wouldn't they go batsh/t insane without experiencing any kind of down time/time away from the office?

I've only watched the first two but I feel this is where they're heading for at least one of the story lines.

My wife hit the eject button after 2 episodes - waayyy too slow for her. I'll have to add this to the never ending list of stuff to watch by myself.
Watched the first episode last night and I enjoyed it way more than my wife did...it bored her, also. She may come around but I think this is another one I'll have to do alone.

this is the craziest mind F of the whole thing. Their innie is at work 24/7.

but they also don't know anything different. It would drive you crazy if you went from a normal life to working 24/7, but if you are born into that, then its just the way it is

I really think you have to get past the first 3 to get hooked. The first 3 just have so much "stage setting" to do. It's worth the time to get through to the end, and we've only seen s1 so far...

surely subconsciously their bodies remember something different. Even if they cant remember it. I dont know. Just blows my mind. I love this show

Imagine having no knowledge of outtie "norms". Its the ultimate controlled environment for brain washing - waffle parties and all. You can bet those that have been there the longest are a bit screwy in their heads. I mean come on, a finger trap as a work reward? When you put yourself in their shoes their odd behaviors then seem...normal/expected.

Irv's innie kind of "knew" how to drive, so there definitely has to be some bleed through.

They even mention on the show that you feel refreshed from the night of sleep you just had but didn't experience (unless your outie decided to get drunk and stay up all night).

I could see some muscle memory kicking in for things like driving. Reminds me of those experiments with rats in a maze where their offspring could do the maze even though they'd never done it before, passed down genetically.

Such an incredible concept for this show.

I was having this discussion with my husband the other day. For the innies, they are basically just awake every minute of their entire life. Never a single moment of sleep (except for Irv "dozing").

On the flip side, their outies don't have to work, but their life is sort of shortened in a sense. If your innie is working 8 hours per day, that leaves your outie with 16 hours a day. Let's say you're sleeping for 8 hours a night, that means instead of having 168 total hours in a week (112 waking hours), you now only have 128 total hours in a week (72 waking hours). So yeah, you're not working, but you're basically losing the equivalent of 87 days of your life every year. I imagine life feels like it's flying by way too fast.

I think the best way to get back at your outie is if they can somehow reverse the switch where the outie only wakes up when they're at work. And just leave them stuck there. Since the outie DEFINITELY knows life outside of work, that would be the ultimate torture. No sleep, never going home, never seeing family, never relaxing....ever.

  • The wife is in a coma and is only being left alive to be part of severance. There really was a car accident, and Lumon took her body and did a severance to see if they could keep people alive. In season 2, Mark is going to have to choose between shutting down Lumon and killing his wife, or keeping his wife alive and keeping hundreds of others in severance.

So every morning they take her comatose body and shove it in the elevator, which re-awakens her for her severed work day/sessions/hours/whatever. Then she gets back in the elevator, goes comatose, and then they wheel her body back to a hospital room? Not sure I buy that one.

My wild ass theory is that Lumon is involved in cloning. Ms Casey is somehow a clone of the dead wife, and the baby goats we saw are a product of cloning R&D.

Not discounting that at all. Im finishing up my re-watch and one thing I noted the other day was Ms Casey telling Mark how much she loved the day when she came to MDR to monitor Helly. She told him "it was the longest she had ever been awake". She's also clearly the most robotic, and devoid of a personality of anyone we've seen at Lumon

I went ahead and said screw it and started rewatching Season 1 last night.

1 episode in and I am glad im doing this.

I was going to do recaps but I feel like you have to watch the show to get back into "Lumon mode". That creepy feeling the show gives you is wild.

I forgot how early in the show Petey finds Mark and plants the seed of doubt about Lumon into Marks head.

She certainly behaves like a robot/android. Did she get sent downstairs to go into cold storage for awhile only to be turned back on when needed?

I started rewatching Season 1 on Monday night, thought it would give me all week to get done. Finished it yesterday afternoon.

It was incredible how much I had forgotten - like the entire reveal of the last 3 episodes.

Finished my rewatch last night and so glad I did. I had forgotten a ton, and I actually think it may have been better the second go round. Highly recommend rewatching, as it flies by.

This is the most excited I've been for a show in a long time - especially given the initial reviews and marketing. Can't wait for Friday

Tonight at 8 CST.

As long as it follows how Apple does the rest of their "Friday" releases. Maybe they will actually put it up later as to not compete with the Silo finale.

so while I am rewatching I am questioning more.

how do they know what beaches, love making, etc(these are things mentioned in the first two episodes) and other things are but nothing about themselves or their lives.

I guess we assume Severance is able to remove their personal memories but not the ones where they learned things about the world?

There may be something in S2 to cover this...or not. In a lot of sci-fi this is normal in that not everything can always be explained and you just have to "go with it" and not question the reality of the situation for the sake of the bigger picture.

I found this answer to a very similar question on the first page and its what I am rolling with

Quote:

I am assuming it works somewhere along the same way that an amnesia works. You understand the world, but your interpersonal connections are all severed.
