so how does the upside down really work? It's a mirror of our world, physically, but there are no people in it (but the trees exist, so i don't know how that works).
In S1, the demogorgon destroys will's fort in the upside down, but it remains in our world. So seemingly, to the monsters, objects in their world must magically appear/float as humans expand and build infrastructure? but any damage caused to geometry in the upside is not reflect here. it's a one-way sync.
That seems like something that could be somehow exploited to fight the monsters, as anything we build or destroy would be mirrored in the upside down, but the upside down cannot directly affect our world.
If El could figure out how to mentally exist in the upside down (instead of just the "clean" version she uses to spy on people) but stay physically in our world, it seems like she could have a one-sided fight with the monsters by throwing any and everything at them from our world, and having that movement mirrored.
In season 1 when they set the bear trap, i honestly thought that they were going to trap the demogorgon in the upside down version of the trap.

In S1, Will gets connected to the monster through that nasty flesh hose in his mouth, he later spits out the slug. Then in S2 two, he mentally crosses into the upside down, while still being in our world.
In S3, El gets that nasty mind flayer orifice thing in her leg. Remember, her blood on the floor of the supermarket was bubbling, so something was definitely going on. If she can get her powers back, maybe she will be able to see into the upside down like Will did.

I'm trying to figure out why extricating the mind flayer worm from herself also somehow destroyed her powers. She's able to use her powers to extract it from her body, but it weakens her to the point that she can't even crush a Coke can?
Just finished it. Really enjoyed S3.

Yeah, she even said her battery was just empty or something to that extent.
Her powers will come back just in time to save the day in season 4.
I watched s1e1 again, and it reminds me how good that season was. Even if it didn't have any 80s references, that season would still be the best. The uncertainty of what the hell was going on, the R U N moment, Winona going from people thinking she was insane to redemption, etc. All of it was top notch.

I think Hopper jumped into the upside down. Look at the railing he was on compared to the russians that were in the room. Hoppers railing was fine. I wouldnt be surprised if he is the American at the end of the credits.
I also cant cope with the way the season ended and im a bit of a emotional mess right now.
Edit: El also cant use her powers so she cant really see if Hopper is alive or dead. Makes for another interesting twist. Season 4 is going to be epic!

Had a friend mention this earlier, but did you notice how all the russians were gone? I think went into the upside down at some point for extraction somewhere else in hawkins. Would make sense especially if Hopper is the impresioned American at the end.

Where did all the Russians go that were in the compound? The US military stormed it and found nothing. It would make sense that they entered the upside down and exited through another portal somewhere else in Hawkins (or hell, maybe Russia). If Hopper jumped through, it would make sense that the russians followed suit in a worst case scenario. Then they captured Hopper and he is in the prision in Russia at the end credits.
I know its a reach but i refuse to believe hes dead! Im like Joyce in S1! My boi is still alive out there!!!!

That picture of the Honey Smacks, I was going to call out as an anachronism, because growing up these were called "Sugar Smacks" (the Post cereal version was known as "Super Sugar Crisps").
They changed the name later on both, probably to promote them as less unhealthy by calling them Honey Smacks.
But apparently that changed happened sometime in the 1980s, but no clear year for when the change was made.
The scene of him driving off after El breaks it off with Mike, and mowing down the Russians when they get off the elevator, are two of my favorite Hopper moments in the entire series.MW03 said:

Not sure if it's just me, but I have no desire to read about or discuss the plot, plot holes, backstories, anachronisms, explanations of the universe, or future of this story. I just watch it and move on. (And that's not a knock on anyone that does want those things)
