SIAP as well but this is pretty cool. It's amazing to me that they even went through the trouble of finishing out and stocking all of the inside of the stores just in case the Duffer brothers came up with any crazy ideas as noted in that LA Times article in my previous post.

All these small things add up. Similar to making sure to nail all your minor character castings, they really add to the feel of the whole universe.

Maybe I missed it, but why did the people infected act so differently this time? Like with the rats, the exploding, the gathering, etc.

How did they act before, I don't remember? Do you just mean Will? Billy was like Will in season 2, right? I guess he was infected in a different manner than Billy...

Will was missing most if not all of the time he was infected if I remember correctly. Will said the flayer only uses them when he needs them which was true with Billy, but I thought it was different how they could infect others in the normal day-to-day lives.

In one of the last episodes, the kids were like "why is it so different this time?" and I don't remember them every saying why. I'm guessing the rats started it with Mrs. Driscoll and Billy? It just doesn't make sense to me

Loved this season, but had thoughts along these lines often:

El's "powers" are certainly used in odd ways at times by the writers. For instance, when her group finally arrives at the mall, why would she go through all the extra steps of turning on the car horn and lights, have the Russians turn around (still with guns), and then heave the car at them? Why would she simply not walk up, see the Russians with guns, and immediately make the guns fly out of their hands (or similar)? Or send the dudes flying through the ceiling?

There are many instances like this once I noticed it a few times. Detracts just a bit, but man, the nostalgia of the entire season in the mall was outstanding. Freaking Walden Books! Spent so much time in that store at the Lubbock South Plains Mall circa 1985.

I think you have El confused with Magneto.. she doesn't want to kill people so I think the did it right

She's killed tons of people and doesn't seem to care

Huh? She killed all those dudes with the car, did she not? So again, why does she just not make their guns fly out the top of the mall or literally anything else other than the multi-step hoop jumping by the writers?

Making all their guns fly away would not have prevented them from discovering, detaining, and possibly killing Steve/Robin/Erica/Dustin.

Distracting them with the car horn and lights prevented that, and let her have a few extra seconds to move the car. She clearly needs more time to do more large-scale things, like hurling a car across a shopping mall. Hence the distraction to stop their progress and give her those extra seconds.

Finally finished the season tonight. Loved it. No show is more economical than this one. There is no wasted time, every last set up is called back, and every single scene - even if only 20 seconds - is so incredibly efficient at creating drama/tension. Someone always wants something but another person or obstacle is always in the way, no matter how short or inconsequential the scene. The writers are so good at making every moment count in that regard and driving the plot forward.

My guess is that we get two more seasons, not just one. This is Netflix's golden goose. Especially with The Office and Friends leaving the platform relatively soon, I can see Netflix giving the Duffer Brothers anything and everything they want to get at least another couple of seasons out of this thing without overdoing it. I wouldn't be surprised if the next official news we get - at some point in the next six months or so - is an end game announcement; X amount of episodes across X amount of seasons, and then that'll be it. And yeah, as someone said earlier, we'll almost assuredly pick back up Christmas '85. Everyone's back for the holiday and something terrible goes down. There's no other reason to have Mike mention that to Eleven there at the end (again, everything in this show is set up / call back).

Same. Probably my favorite moment of the season, in fact. I can't imagine liking this show but not liking that moment. That moment IS the show. So funny, and such a great payoff to the whole Suzie thing.

Also, Maya Hawke was awesome. She brought such a cool, throwback vibe to this season; a kind of '90s vibe you just don't see with most modern, young characters/actors anymore. I don't really know how to describe it. She just channels both of her parents so damn well. She's super likable, cute but not too hot, seemingly wise beyond her years, and kind of almost has a young Diane Keaton thing going on, except more fun. I'd never seen her in anything before this, but I really hope this launches her career. Would love to start seeing her in more stuff.

I agree. I think she's a much better actress than Sadie Sink (Max), and the way her character was introduced was much better than "the new kid at school." It wasn't even obvious at the beginning she was going to be a big part of the season.

A few random thoughts:

- Steve...... I've been there man. It'll be okay.

- It was funny this season because you could tell when the kids hit puberty. Lucas' voice definitely changed around episode 4 or 5, and Will seemed to get a lot taller in the last two episodes. All in all though, they hid things remarkably well for a cast of this age.

- I really didn't care for season 2. It felt like too much of the same stuff, lots of demogorgons, more upside down, Deus Ex Eleven, where's Barb, etc. This season felt a bit more refreshing. More original maybe - different-ish villains, locations, etc.

- After season 2, I think the ~8ish characters should just never leave each other's sights because you know some more **** is gonna go down.

- A lot of people died this season. I don't know how they cover up entire families going missing. Newspaper editors, etc. I guess the government arriving at the end ties up any loose ends though.

Overall, I enjoyed it! No Khali helps as well.

Can someone explain the Neverending Story reference? For some reason that's a gap in my 80s pop culture knowledge.

Neverending Story came out in 1984, and was super popular. Those nerds would have been all over that movie. I haven't seen it in forever, but I have the memory that it's a quasi-love story, so that particular song would be perfect for young nerd love.

Just for kicks, someone on the first two pages mentioned the Russians might have been spying on the Hawkins Lab. For my enjoyment I would have loved to see a glimpse of Keri Russell poking her head around and intertwined Stranger Things and The Americans.

Born in '83. Seem to remember never ending story on the tv at some point growing up with cousins. All I remember is the giant flying dog and some kid yelling out his window because he was "in the book"

My wife was born in 83. She had never seen neverending story. I made her watch it about 6 months ago. She didn't like it very much.

It's one of those movies that if you're seeing it for the first time as an adult, it's probably going to not be very good.

I was born in 83 and saw it in the late 80s. I also remember seeing the sequel which is terrible.

I watched some of the original a few years back. It had definitely not aged well

I think they'll address it. There was the news teaser in the last episode. Almost seems like they'll tie the Satanic Panic into next season.

I thought this season was really good. The changed up the formula enough to give it a little bit of a new flavor, while bringing in the whole Russian scare from the 80's. I would have had a hard time picturing how they combine the Russian element with the 'stranger things' vibe, but they nailed it.
As far as the 11 thing goes with losing her power. They had to do that. 1) she is too OP and they had to find victory a different way this season. 2) if she had her power, she could see Hopper in prison. Everyone has to think he is dead for now. She will get it back towards the end of next season.

All the flayed melted and joined the monster. They did address the deaths. The paper and news story mentioned 30 dying in the mall fire. That is how the government covered it up.
