What odds could I have gotten if I'd bet the Clobber Line was going to end up on The Batman thread?

A good essential reading order is

Year One, The Man Who Laughs, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Ego, A Death in the Family (or just know that Jason Todd Robin dies), Hush, Under the Red Hood, and Court of Owls.
awesome, thanks!

You can probably skip Under the Red Hood and A Death in the Family. They're the weakest and less essential of those listed.

The clobber line is what they called it in the 60's Batman when he beat up a row of henchmen.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but what is the board's thoughts on minimum age to see this movie? CommonSense media thinks 14+. Accurate?

I'd say that's accurate. It's more of a creepy thriller than a comic book movie, really. Does not have the humor marvel films have.

There's hardly any blood, but it's pretty dark and violent and relatively disturbing at times. Also one f-bomb and a few sh*ts.

Tons of language, especially early. Blood in the beginning, and a disturbing scene involving someone having a rat maze built around them do the rats chew him to death, but you don't see more than him stuck in the contraption, Kravitz in underwear for a few seconds, graphic violence over the phone. I think that's pretty much it.

A lot of GD's, if that offends you

I'd compare it to the cable TV edit of Seven or Silence of the Lambs.

I thought it was a little scary and the final fight gave me some no fun anxiety.

Have to admit there was one particular scene where there SHOULD'VE been blood (based on what had just happened to the guy), and there wasn't. This is the only time I really felt the movie got held back by the rating.

I'm sure you know the one.

Gotham City PD show not happening after all.

Is the Penguin one different than this?

Yes, Penguin show is different. Reeves talked about this on that podcast I posted a couple days back. He went into detail about why the Gotham show is now on the back-burner and why the Penguin show is going forward.

The other show is the Arkham series, that sounds like it's moving forward as well.

Apparently the GCPD show evolved into the Arkham show? Or was it always different?

The GCPD spin-off show is now an Arkham Asylum show on HBO Max

I had posted this yesterday under that impression

In the Horowitz podcast Reeves said specifically that they "weren't doing [the GCPD show] anymore." He described the plot, which was to take place a year or two before The Batman, as Batman is starting to make himself known, but was centered on a young GCPD cop, and the show was essentially a "battle for his soul" as to whether the cop would become corrupt or not (which, I image, would have involved Gordon as well). In other words, it didn't sound at all like it had anything to do with Arkham. I think the Arkham show is a completely separate thing, and at one point it was one of three spin-off shows, but is now one of two spin-off shows. Reeves said the HBO Max execs loved the GCPD series idea (as it was the first show publicly announced), but ultimately wanted something centered on more of a known character, thus the Penguin show was created, which sounds like will take place after the first movie, but before the sequel. On the podcast, as that part of the conversation was ending, Horowitz then asked if the other show was the Arkham series and Reeves very quickly said "Yeah," but immediately started talking about something else and never got into any details as to what that show is, exactly.

I think they didn't want to have to "deal" with a cop centered storyline post BLM. Brooklyn 99 and other cop centered shows have had to twist and contort their stories since then.

Cop centered storylines are often boring to me. NCIS: snooze et Al.

And while I haven't watched it, isn't that what Gotham was? Seems liked it treads similar ground.

I watched the pilot and then vowed to never watch another frame, but yeah, essentially, even though it's earlier in the timeline (seeing as Gordon was the young cop).

Gotham is really offbeat, I think. I mean yes, there's some police procedural element to it, but I feel like the typical police procedural fan wouldn't go for it
