Yep, same. That shot screamed Blade Runner from the jump, which immediately sucked me in, and then from there, in terms of the cinematography, we see that Reeves is basically doing a gothic version of Blade Runner that legit makes for one of the most stunning-looking blockbuster I think I've ever seen. I just can't get over how rich and incredibly lit every last shot is, with just the right amount of depth and grain. It's *exactly* how I want a movie like this to look.

What's crazy is how all the behind-the-scenes paparazzi shots we saw way back when of them filming in London and Scotland and wherever else oversees have been translated, with all kinds of seamless CGI, into this completely fabricated yet wholly tangible version of an American Gotham that looks to be my favorite on-screen Gotham yet. It's like Blade Runner, Seven, and a Batman graphic novel were all thrown into a blender, and this is the result.

I'm going to have every single shot and line of dialogue from this trailer memorized before too long…

To be a little contrarian, I really liked the look of it amd I'll absolutely see it, but part of me felt like it hit too many of The Dark Knight's notes. The Riddler felt a lot like Ledger's Joker. Seems to be working for a mob boss and was arrested on purpose as part of big plan, etc. Maybe it's just the trailer and the actual film is different, plot-wise. Maybe I'm just a little burnt-out on super-brooding Gothman takes on Batman.

I actually thought the same thing, all the way down to the interrogation scene. Really hope it's coincidental and the movie takes it a much different direction.

The only thing I would change, but its clearly too late, is the instrumental part towards the end just sounds too much like the start of the Imperial March to me.

For what its worth, based on the quote Reeves gave in the lead up to the trailer today, they're going for a Bruce Wayne as "a recluse rock star in a decaying Wayne Manor" kind of thing. So, through that lens, the Trent Reznor/dark-haired Kurt Cobain vibe feels very intentional (and gives the score a bit more meaning/intentionality too). It's like he's a grunge rocker who has to try and dress nice every so often; a look I think will fit well in context, amongst the gothic Blade Runner vibe. I also get the impression Wayne is really going through something mentally in this movie, and the longish, unkempt hair is part of that. I'd even be willing to bet that we get a more dapper, clean-cut Wayne in some kind of final end-scene, after the climax, to perhaps emphasize his mental arc.

I just can't get over how incredible this movie looks. When I say it's some of the best blockbuster cinematography I've ever seen, I absolutely mean it...

Also, there's something about the shots with cityscapes - any time city buildings/streets/lights are in the background - that look like nothing I've ever seen before. Initially, I couldn't put my finger on what, exactly, gave me that feeling. Part of it's knowing they shot all of this in Europe, and no European city looks like that. But I also knew they didn't shoot any of it in the states, so I couldn't figure out how, exactly, the cityscapes were being created, seeing as they blend seamlessly with the foreground, absent of any kind of sh*tty green screen effect. That's when I had this vague recollection of reading a headline way back when about Reeves choosing to shoot parts of this in "the volume" at Pinewood Studios in England - "the volume" being the exact same kind of stage/tech The Mandalorian uses - and then it all finally made sense.

For instance, out of the images above - in the third one from the top, with Gordon and the Bat Signal - I'm 99% sure that's in a volume, and the area where Gordon is standing is a stage, but everything immediately to his left, behind the building structure, is the volume screen projecting the rest of the city in real time. Same with the shot from behind Batman's shoulders/cowl, looking over the city at sundown. I'm 99% that's a fully-rendered, animated CGI environment being projected, that he's looking at in real time, all in-camera. Also, the silhouetted Catwoman and Batman shot atop that building; stage in the foreground, volume screen in the background. But notice, especially, the way the light from the "sky" is being reflected in the wet surface of the building set they're standing on. You can't do that with green screen. Whereas the volume screen gives you all the proper reflections and lighting you need, in-camera. Because, for all intents and purposes, the "skylight" and "sunlight" from the screen bounces off the actors and stage in the exact same way the real deal would. Except here, they have complete control and can make "magic hour" last all day.

I know this is some super technical/nerdy sh*t, but some of these shots really do look like nothing I've ever seen before, in the most exciting, ground-breaking ways. For the first time, the volume tech isn't being used for alien worlds, it's being used to create "real world" environments, and is rendering them in such stunningly beautiful ways that green screen and even real life can't achieve.

I got serious "The Crow" vibes. Some of the dialogue between Batman and Catman sound a lot like a dective noir film. Which that mixed with the action reminds me of The Crow.

Small nitpick: Not a fan of bulletproof Batmans. I like the BvS warehouse scene until Batman is too busy pummeling a dude and gets shot in the back of the head. Some strategist you are!

In this case it looks cool and intimidating and all but yeah if you've got a full auto assault rifle on Batman, just aim up and hit him in the mouth - he's not Iron Man or something.

I'm sure this will have more of the traditional skill-based and tech-based Batman domination but IMO his suit should be the least unstoppable thing about him - in a way, he shouldn't even need it.

Agreed. I loved the early scene in the alley when he gets shot twice in the chest and shoulder. The impact is so realistic and disabling. Real weight there. But the machine gun barrage to the chest in the darkness, while it creates a cool lighting effect, is a little frustrating because it feels so meaningless. There's no weight or consequence to the bullets. Like he's Superman or something. And he shows no concern or haste to stop the attack, even though one shot to the neck or head and he's dead.
