WB must have hired the same makeup people from Darkest Hour cause I don't even recognize Colin Farrell

Which is a little confusing to me. If you're going to make him completely unrecognizable as Colin Farrell, but also make him look like a normal guy (not a Devito monstrosity), why pick Colin Farrell? Is he THAT good of an actor? Am I missing something? Why not pick a good actor that looks like what Farrell's make up job created?

The only other instance I can think of similar to this is casting Guy Pearce as old-man Weyland in Prometheus. Which, at the time, made no sense either. Why not just cast an *actual* old man? But it was later revealed that they had shot an entire flashback with Guy Pearce as the age-appropriate version of his character, and then just gave him old man makeup for his scenes in the primary timeline. It was still a dumb decision - just cast two different actors for the two different ages, as Guy Pearce's old man makeup was terrible - but they at least had a reason, as dumb as the reason was.

But I wonder if something similar is happening here? Are we going to see a more dapper, good-looking version of Cobblepot in a flashback before he became the Penguin (if he's even called "The Penguin" in this iteration)? My gut says no, but otherwise, yeah, I just can't figure out the point of this, as there are plenty of amazing actors out there who *do* or *could* look somewhat like what they've come up with here, without much effort.

Christian Bale in American Hustle is another that comes to mind.

Does it really matter tho? If that's the directors choice for the role I trust him until I get to see it for myself on screen.

This would've been a perfect role for Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

I'm not saying it matters, and I haven't criticized the decision. Like you, I'm going to wait until I see it for myself. But in the meantime, it's ok to wonder out loud and take a guess at the reasoning.

So, either Superman is a fictional character in this universe and someone is dressed as him for Halloween - or - Superman is real in this universe and someone is dressed as him for Halloween. Either way, it appears as if Superman - as a concept - exists in The Batman universe.

This also means that Superman was around before Bruce Wayne became the Batman and not the other way around (since Affleck's Batman was a much older Batman in Batman v. Superman).

Pretty ridiculous that this needs to be clarified in a Batman movie.

Why?

Would you say the concept of Superman - either fictional or real - existed in the Nolan Batman movies?

Fair point. You'd think Superman and others would at least always exist in a Batman movie. But then you could argue that Superman would have flown in an cleaned up Gotham in any one of those movies, but that's always a comics problem too.

I was also pointing out the frustration that DCU can't make up its mind on a set universe and stick to it.

I'm not sure it's a problem. In some of what I've read, Bruce and Clark have an agreement that Superman stays out of Gotham unless invited.

Makes sense, as the cinematographer, Greig Fraser, also shot The Mandalorian...

I should also point out the "HD" on the news truck. Seeing as HD didn't exist until the '00s, I think we can finally confirm that this isn't set in the '90s.

Now I can only think about a Batman / Army of Darkness crossover.

Batman: "You, you are not an inmate at Arkham Asylum, who are you?"
Ash "Who wants to know?"
Batman: "I am Batman. The Dark Knight. The Caped Crusader."
Ash: "Well hello Mister Fancy Pants. Well I've got news for you, you aren't a knight and you're not on a Crusade."

Scarecrow: "I'll swallow your soul!"
Ash: "Come get some."

Poison Ivy (after her transformation): You found me beautiful once.
Ash: Honey, you got real ugly.

Ash (To Talia Al'Ghul): "Yo, she-*****! Let's go."
