Edward the Vampire vs. Emperor Commodus sounds like some hardcore gay fanfic.

More and more chatter that this is based loosely on The Long Halloween...

I've listened to this audio drama of The Long Halloween several times. It's great.

but somehow Kevin knew nothing about Tenet even existing, which seems bizarre to me

That seems to be where this latest chatter originated. But I had seen that mentioned as a possibility before.

He's definitely still connected, as Abrams again invited him to the Episode IX set, but yeah, I can't quite figure him out nowadays. I think maybe he's just super ingrained in comic book movie world and that's it.

Wright as Gordon is PERFECT casting. Love it. And everyone is obviously assuming Hill as the Penguin, but it looks like we'll have to wait for confirmation on that.

This sounds so cool...

Quote:

The tone of The Batman is said to be a fairly dark mystery, much like WB's own crime noirs of the '30s and '40s, with a rogues gallery of villains. Hill doesn't have a deal in place yet, but we'd always heard that Riddler would be the first villain cast, given the character's prominence in the script.

Hill as Riddler..

Wright as Gordon..

Can this movie get any better? Hope these come to fruition.

I'm so hyped for this movie. Can't wait to see the villain gallery casting as well.

That would also probably mean a black Barbara Gordon/Batgirl.

Not too excited to start repeating villains. Even if it's been 20 years, we've seen Riddler-esque villains a billion times I feel like. Masterminds.

Unless it's a totally new / accurate? interpretation, news of the Riddler doesn't really get me out of my seat.

Would like to have seen them go more the route of a Batman meets Jack the Ripper serial killer type story. Had enough of the usual villains.

We haven't seen a new iteration of The Riddler in 24 YEARS (26 by the time the movie hits theaters) and people are already complaining about this movie using the "usual"/"repeat" villains. In that time, we've had two additional Jokers, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Ra's al Ghul, Scarecrow, Two Face, Talia al Ghul, and Bane (along with another Catwoman, if you count her as a villain). That, and they're not going to start an entirely new Batman iteration with a no-name villain. So, given that fact, The Riddler seems about the safest bet and the most ripe for reimagining, considering Bill Clinton was president the last time The Riddler was seen on screen. Not to mention, it's been heavily rumored that we're ALSO getting a couple - if not more than a couple - fresh, lesser-known villains as well. Given all of that, along with Reeves' track record, we have no reason not to trust him for the time being.

I don't know what exactly they will go with, but The Riddler easily translates to this. Like TC said, its been 24 years since the last Riddler, and that version was a complete cartoon character with a machine that controls peoples minds or something stupid like that.

Riddler could easily be a loner serial killer or a criminal mastermind. Look at Zodiac and Seven... a guy that's outsmarting the police and Batman and taunting him the whole way. Riddler is ok, never been my favorite but I'd prefer him over the Penguin. And I'd def be excited to see a new take on him.

I could be proven wrong, but I consider myself a Batman super fan and I truly believe it's one of the best moves to ever happen to the character/franchise.

I considered the best thing to happen to the franchise to be Bale.

Eh... Bale is mostly really solid all the way around, and his Bruce Wayne is fantastic, which is almost more important than the Batman side for an actor. But his actual Batman performance isn't aging well in my opinion. I'm not saying its bad, but I could see in some time it being considered pretty cheesy.

Agreed. You couldn't ask anymore of Bale's Wayne. It was damn near perfect. And while I think his Batman looks the best, the growling ages worse and worse the more time passes. I have no idea if Pattinson will look as iconic as Bale and even Keaton did under the cowl, but I think his performance as Batman could easily be the best yet. His Wayne really interests me as well, as I wonder if he's going to be brash or somewhat more reserved, as I could see Pattinson going either way, which is a tribute to how good he is as an actor in general.

Especially if they are getting away from trying to maintain a EU. I love Hamil's joker the best but Beyond was easily my favorite Batman series.

I mentioned it on here years ago, but my dream would be to make a Batman Beyond movie. It could be so good. I'm about to start work on sci-fi script idea I've been percolating on for years, that I finally figured out, and if it's good enough, I can use it to at least get in a room at WB to pitch Beyond. Will definitely need some TexAgs input when and if I do.

All this Riddler talk put me in a mood to revisit Batman Forever for the first time in probably 20 years. I thought the nostalgia of it might be fun, as I remember the soundtrack being iconic, and some of the visuals, at least, being somewhat memorable. I thought in a weird, zany way that it might have actually aged "well," but holy sh*t this movie is INSANE. And insanely bad.

It literally opens with Batman approaching the Batmobile in the Bacave, standing next to it in iconic fashion as the theme swells, then Alfred, in the background, saying, "Can I persuade you to take a sandwich with you, sir?" To which Batman replies, deadpan... "I'll get drive through." That's the FIRST exchange of the movie, one written SOLELY to include in a McDonald's commercial or whatever (which is now coming rushing back to me).

From there we're introduced to Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face, who is basically Nicholson's Joker on meth. But not before Nicole Kidman as Dr. Chase Meridian lustfully says of Batman's arrival to a massive hostage situation, "Hot entrance."

And then after that bonkers set piece, we're next introduced to Jim Carrey's Edward Nygma, an obsessed-with-Bruce-Wayne scientist who works at Wayne Enterprises, meets Wayne, and immediately pitches him a device that can beam a television signal directly into someone's brain. Bruce hears him out, is extremely nice, and even tells Nygma to set up a meeting through his secretary so they can talk further about his device. But then for no reason whatsoever, Nygma says he needs an answer NOW. When Bruce says, in that case, "I'm sorry, Ed, then the answer's no," Nygma privately swears revenge on him. THAT'S THE SET UP. Bruce Wayne wants to hear more about the device, but doesn't say yes on the spot, while on a random tour of his science wing. And so... The Riddler.

In other words, I'd say Reeves is basically getting a fresh start with his iteration...
