Maybe everyone else caught on to this sooner (since I'm slow), but do y'all think part of the reason Cedric Diggory was cast as Batman was for the free PR in the "outrage" over the Twilight vamp becoming Batman?

It shouldn't be a big thing. Leo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt started as heart throbs but have moved on to being successful dramatic actors.

Ha, he's old! The joke is that an old man auditioned for Batman, thought he had a good audition, and is disappointed he didn't get the part. It has nothing to do with being "tuned in to Hollywood." It's so obvious that I assumed surely you just didn't know who Richard Dreyfuss is.

guy tells his dad, famous actor, to tweet out that he auditioned to play batman but he didn't get it, and they gave it to Affleck instead.

it's funny because this is not the type of role that Richard Dreyfuss would audition for. so everyone understands that he would not be serious when he says that he was disappointed that they gave it to Affleck.

well, if you see Richard Dreyfuss' tweet there's a good chance it's because you follow him or people in that same circle. and if you meet that criteria, there's a good chance you know that he's a famous actor, as well as his approximate age and the type of role he generally plays.

you see, it's funny because it's an incongruity between your expectations of him as an actor and the expectations for the role of batman.
