Expanding on this, I came across this quote from Cameron:

"Now, the one thing I will say pretty definitively, 48 frames doesn't benefit a 2D movie very much, if at all. It's really about making a better experience in 3D. Because sometimes, the edge detection that our brains are trying to do to decode the parallax-- we're getting technical now. The rapid lateral displacement causes it to strobe and it basically screws with our brains. So we wanted to get rid of that to make a better 3D experience.

Because people used to complain about 3D, oh, I don't like 3D, it gives me a headache. Well, why? Well, when you drill down on it, this is why. It's that strobing. The 48 takes that out."

Running on this tangent, last night we had Disney channel on during pizza night and a commercial for Way of the Water came on. My wife, who has seen probably less science fiction than any person alive, wrinkles her nose and says, "Why did they make a sequel, did anyone even go see the first one?"

In all your trips to WDW, it never seemed strange to her there was a land based on Avatar?

We have only been to animal kingdom once and both the avatar rides were broken. The other stuff wasn't worth a trip back.

You've never been on Flight of Passage? Y'all missed out. Best ride in all the parks.

We had fast passes for that and the river boat thing but both shut down and never reopened. We were nonplussed by the rest of the park so we crossed it off the list. Wife and kids know nothing about Avatar and I've only seen it the one time. So we're talking $450 to go ride 1 ride.

Rewatching Avatar right now on TV, amazing how much I forgot of this thing.

Saw it once in the theater and loved the 3D but the 3D wa clearly the true star of the show, on 2d TV it looks very cartoony.

Looking forward to seeing 2 in the theater.

Started watching the original with the kids tonight to get them ready for this weekend... My daughter is super confused waiting for the kid with elemental powers to show up.

84% on rotten tomatoes. More than enough positivity around film quality for this to make a bajillion dollars.

124 reviews in and still at 84%. So probably gonna settle in right in that 82-86% range and a certified fresh.

I bet this scores a 90%+ audience score though, based on the reviews.

That's what I was about to ask. It's just some tongue in cheek thing I found kind of funny.

Since it's getting some buzz I'll probably go check it out but 3h 10m feels like a big commitment. The fact that it's that long and people are still saying it's good means it must be pretty solid.
