Brilliant episode.

Kept waiting for Charles (Lenny!) to bust some knowledge and cases on them. Then came the "20 Million!" Greatness!

Did you not hear jimmy asking her in the previews for next week..."what did Hamlin offer you?". My guess is the chance to become a partner in the law firm.

The entire dumpster scene was perfect... the dirty diaper, getting trash dumped on him, the magic flute, and of course finding the recycle bin right outside... brilliant!

Enjoy seeing a different side to Chuck. Also enjoyed everything with the assisted living case. Jimmy's interactions with elderly people are a scream, but the fraud case itself held my interest.

I agree that some combination of betrayal/disappointment from Chuck and Kim (the two people Jimmy cares about the most, it seems) will drive him to a bad place. Working with Chuck on this case will not end well for Jimmy.

We have a pretty good idea that she and Chuck cease to be important parts of his life at some point. But of course there are all kinds of ways for that to happen.

My prediction: The firm will notice that Chuck billed $400 to his number, and they will figure out that he is working on a big case with Saul. They will push to take it over, and will offer Kim partner to side with them. Chuck will negotiate a small finders fee for Jimmy, while they cash in most of the $20M. Jimmy is so disgusted with Chuck that he takes the name of Saul as a way to write Chuck off.

I believe 1868 was his code, not 1898. And if there is any significance there, I doubt we are supposed to know about it yet.

Well now that Chuck realizes his illness was all in his head, he'll want to go back to his firm, that will drive a wedge between him and Jimmy big time.

Someone with better descriptive skills can chime in, but I'd recommend recording a rerun of it, if possible.

Any insight to what Hamlin told him in the room while eating cake?

Love that the door shut and we didn't hear while the printer was going. Plus it looked like the printer was in the room as well until they panned out and you saw that it was a reflection of the printer in the glass and it actually was outside the room.

i assume you saw at least the start of the meeting between Jimmy/Chuck and the lawyers representing the old folks home:

they made an offer of $46K admitting some billing mistakes and another $46K to cover expenses and make good. jimmy and chuck never said a word for a couple of minutes.

then jimmy said you are gonna have to do better than that - gave them the letter showing that it was out of state so involved mail fraud making it federal and a RICO case and with the 12 locations in other states the interstate commerce in a pattern with fraaud and damages multiplied by RICO....the other lawyers conversed and said what do you want then?....chuck chime sin with "$20 million" or we will see you in court.

meeeting over...after jimmy and chuck talk and chuck is going on about how big it is, big company, multi state federal with a Rico kicker in penalty phase...jimmy is obviously in fully has plans for how to try the case, gives jimmy instructions, etc...

cut to a scene in a vets office with mike and a dog....vet says she she looks good, mike says he got her at a shelter, same vet that fixed mike's wounds before in flashbacks...mike asks if he is still in touch with his people....vet says depends on what looking for....mike says tell me what kind of people and i'll tell you what ill do...

jimmy come back to chucks and says he signed up more clients.....but very tired, chuck is busy working case asks if jimmy broguht what he asked for he says it is in car but lays down and says give me a minute....chuck keeps working by the time he gets up to get what he wanted jimmy is sond asleep...chuck without thinking about it at all walks straight outside opens the trunk and gets what he was after...jimmy wakes up realizes chck is gone and looks for him finding him outside standing there looking at the file stuff he needed only then chuck realizes he is outside and stands there dumbfounded looking around....the end

Jimmy is starting to realize he's a pretty good lawyer after fleshing out this case and facing up against the old folks home. When they discover the copy charges and all this comes out into the open, HHM threatens Jimmy with Chuck's non competition clause so a deal is offered. Jimmy is gonna be so pissed because he dumpster dove for this case, it's a slam dunk, and both Kim and Chuck won't fight for him because to them it will be very simple, it violates Chuck's contract. Bet that is when we see Saul start by kissing off Chuck and Kim forever after he gets shut out of the deal. Jimmy went to bat for her, but he can't even tell her how deep it was and she isn't going to do the same. She wouldn't even make $300 in copies for him.

Guess that early scene where Hamlin tells him no and they will evaluate in 6 months is pretty big now.

i bet that "evaluate in 6 months" comes up again...something with this case and they'll try it hamlins way for 6 months or soemthing and jimmy knows what that means and tells him to F himself.....something like that

The whole "reevaluate in 6 months" thing has nothing to do with the case. That was in a flashback of when Jimmy and Chuck were still working for HHM.

Good episode.

I'm still not completely sure what to think of Chuck. Your first instinct is to think of him as good because he's a sympathetic figure, but has he really done anything good? He helped Jimmy with his case and putting together those shredded documents, but then he jumped on the case for himself, so I don't know if he was really doing that for Jimmy. I also think he knew that when he threw out $20 million, he was also bringing HHM into the fold. He probably could have said one or two million and gotten a pay day for him and Jimmy right there, but he went for it. And then in the opening flashback we find out that he didn't get his brother a law job (anywhere, not just at HHM).

I'm reading into it a bit, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a big part of Jimmy getting screwed out of this case.

Not only did Chuck go outside, he reached into the mailbox full of electronic devices to get the key to the car. And if I recall correctly, he even put the remote door lock fob in his mouth while he was getting the file box out of the trunk.

I took the 6 months comment as Hamlin being asked by Chuck to hire Jimmy, he gives then gives Jimmy the song and dance they are ok for now, see how things go, re-evaluate in 6 months, which was about as polite as he could be to Chuck's brother to tell him to GTFO, it will never happen.

Jimmy has burning hatred for him ever since then. I also think Chuck has a selfish streak and will take the case and toss Jimmy in a second. He jumped on that case with "we" pretty quick and caught Jimmy off guard.

Great episode and the dumpster scene was fantastic, Jimmy did an excellent job of acting to sell how disgusting the dumpster was.

Yeah, i'm in the camp that thinks holier than thou Chuck will eventually betray Jimmy on this case. The printer code is going to pull the case into HHM and Chuck won't fight for Jimmy, or at least not enough.

Interesting that Nacho has pretty much disappeared, it seemed like he was gonna play a bigger part in this series.

Anyone think we'll see him again before the end of the season? Maybe Mike will get involved with him and/or Tuco via the vet?

I think we'll find out that Chuck didn't fight too hard for Jimmy. His initial response to Jimmy passing the bar was pretty underwhelming and objectively, Jimmy wasn't qualified for a job at HHM. I think he sent in Hamlin to do his dirty work and tell him no. Not giving him a job is perfectly reasonable, but I think Jimmy will take it personally, especially since Chuck didn't have the guts to do it himself.

I agree about Chuck's selfish streak.

My other thought from the episode was that the nursing home is guilty of money laundering, not fraud. I think that this case will be Jimmy's introduction into that world.

So, all of the episode titles this season are one-word titles that end in the letter "o", except for one.

1. Uno
2. Mijo
3. Nacho
4. Hero
5. Alpine Shepherd Boy
6. Five-O
7. Bingo
8. RICO
9. Pimento
10. Marco

As BrBa fans, we can pretty safely assume this is not only intentional, but there's some meaning behind the title of the episode. Turns out it's a reference to an old, obscure song from 1844, titled "The Lament of the Alpine Shepherd Boy ".

These are the lyrics:

quote:
Oh! my home, native home, how dear are thy hills,Thy music how sweet of thy murmuring rills,
How gentle and soft is the breath of thy gales,
As sweetly they blow o'er the vine scented vales
Farewell! to ye all, valley mountain and plain,
And the grave of my Leila, Far, far o'er the main
But hark! and the mountains re-echoed his sigh
The echo! sweet echo (etc.)

A shepherd boy, pale from afar, o'er the main
Sat piping all lonely and sad was his strain
Oh! my own native land my mountain so blue,
My Leila, I weep for my home and for you
Hark! The echo! her spirit seems whispering low,
But alas! She is dead, And my tears they must flow!
That voice once again now I know thou art nigh
The echo! Sweet echo! With thee let me die!

Let the speculating begin!

There's no way the two of them can handle a $20million lawsuit. I think Kim used her code to make the copies knowing HHM would get a cut if it's chuck's case and copies. She probably thought it would be a small case for Jimmy, around $1million, and figured she could bill the copies to another client or hide them somehow. Now that it's $20million and federal Chuck will bring in HHM and Kim gets caught trying to pass off the copies to another client.
