I'm surprised you guys didn't catch that one earlier. I'm generally pretty slow to find these things out, and that immediately clicked for me

Also, that Mike guy. He did some jobs for Saul and worked for this guy named Gus Fring in BB.

Last two episodes have been excellent. I think a lot of that has to do with Mike getting a more prominent role in the series.

Oh, and Mrs. Kettleman is once fine piece of ass:

clearly Gilligan hasn't been getting the most out of this actress on this series and he should be accountable. until now, everytime she came on the screen I cringed and hoped someone would slap the crap out of her.

Certainly seems like Gilligan's strength is not writing women.

This weeks episode was written by a woman.

The podcast this week has the lady that plays Betsy Kettleman.

She is sharp.

I get that. I just wouldn't describe her as a strong or complex character. Not a big deal. Just something that caught my attention.

I can still dislike her when she's flashing boob.

I'm afraid that bad things are in store for Kim. The way I see this going, she's going to finally give up her role at HHM, join Saul and make him happier than he's ever been in his entire life, and then he's going to get her mixed up in something shady that ends up getting her killed and turning him into something dark & sleazy. Bet his bro Chuck dies around the same time.

Just got completely caught up from the last two weeks episodes and on this thread. Going back to the confusing timelines from the episode last week, I could be wrong, but I have noticed that when they do a flashback, there is a different effect or filter to the picture. It's a little bit darker and bluer. That's how I knew it was past or present day. Anyone else notice this?

Reading reviews and i keep seeing criticisms that nothing is happening.

Why cant they enjoy the show for what it is roght now? Character development.

I thought it started slow at first. Then, I remembered this is a new series not a continuation of Breaking Bad. It is better if it starts slow building the characters rather than just jump in because we know them.

I agree.

Outside of one uneventful episode, this has been a great season and it's showing much promise.

This is exactly the kind of show we've come to expect from Gilligan, so not sure what people that are complaining were expecting.

I wonder if a lot of the people saying its slow were binge watchers of BB so it just seems slow in comparison.

I remember not being all in when BB first aired, waited and let it get a couple of seasons under its belt and I think it was season 3 when I got caught up and waited every week for a new episode.

I think sometimes that's a big part of it. Personally, going from binge watching seasons at a time to watching week by week the last couple of seasons, made the show feel a little slow, even when it was balls to the wall crazy.

The binge watch factor is huge. BCS is doing a remarkable job of establishing and developing essentially new characters, but that's tough for people who are used to speeding through and focusing on climacteric scenes.

The other challenge is getting people to accept that this is a new series, not a new season. A lot of critics and fanboys are unbearable because they're certain they know what to expect from their boy "Gilligan" (We're on a one name basis), and they KNOW what these characters should be doing.

All that metacriticism is so annoying. The Onion AV Club has one of the few critics I've seen actually discussing story developments, rather than expectations of their ol' pals Gilligan and Saul.

I've come to "expect the unexpected" from my boy Gilligan.

Whenever I think I know what's coming, I know I should expect it probably won't happen. And that's one of the many reasons this show and BB were so brilliant.

To UK and Harrry Lime:
how does it affect your enjoyment of the show if
#1 people talking about it claim it is slow or
#2 media types refer to vince gilligan as "their buddy gilligan"

regarding #1 - who cares if some fatty from the office thinks it is too slow? dont most of her other opinions also suck?
regarding #2 - its pretty easy to avoid articles about TV and podcasts about TV altogether.

I'm sure it affects me as much as my comment affected you - just a small waste of time. I do enjoy good writing, including criticism that adds insight or points out things I've missed. So it's kind of disappointing when I scroll through a column - seven episodes into a series - only to learn that the author has passing familiarity with the show creator's previous work.

And I guess it does affect me when a show I like gets talked down before it has a chance to build an audience, though BCS seems safe.

It's also interesting how technology affects viewing habits, which in turn affect the way a story is received and processed by the viewer. I thought previous posters made a good point about binge watchers having different perceptions than week to week watchers.

I've been binging on this this week. I watched all of Breaking Bad, so I am loving this. I haven't read the rest of the discussion up to this point to avoid spoilers, but I love the feel and the storylines of this show.

I finished my binge tonight. Mike was always a very mysterious character to me, which was part of his allure, but after they blew the cap off of his character's background, he is at a whole new level. My allergies acted up during his monologue with his daughter-in-law.

Over/under on when Gus is introduced to the storyline-

By the end of the last episode of the season.

I'm going with the under

Nothing against the character of Gus. Loved what he brought to BrBa. I hope they let BCS stand on its own without resorting to recycling characters from the other series. My hope is that BCS is BCS and not Breaking Bad Behind The Curtain.

So.far I think they are succeeding
Texaggie7nine

Gus was pretty well fleshed out in BB. I'd rather he not be a big role. We need more interesting characters.
