No, but I'm sure that is much more easy to deny than what you were wearing.

I'm guessing cop bars don't say anything in return for extra protection.

Maybe they were on duty?
I assumed they were. I was not aware of any city that allowed uniformed officers to continue to wear their uniform while drinking at a bar off hours.
Are there cities that allow uniformed officers to drink at bars while on duty?
Doubtful, but these were dirty cops. Are there cities that allow officers to execute a guy at the docks and make it appear to be a suicide?

Was it me or was the planting of the gun and the "I know it was you" a bit of a Godfather homage? Or just a coincidence? His name is also Michael.
It was definitely a homage to The Godfather. Gilligan has been referencing a ton of movies thus far.

The opening scene is a reference to "Nebraska", which Odenkirk was in. The jello-cup scene was a call back to Federico Fellini and I believe may have used a song directly from a Fellini movie (8 1/2) but I can't find the scene/music at the moment. Not to mention all of Saul/Jimmy's verbal taglines from old movies, most notably, "It's showtime folks!" (from 'All That Jazz')

Yeah I thought that "I don't do that kind of work" line seemed a little out of the blue. What exactly is the vet into?

Definitely gonna play a role.

it's not out of the blue at all, clearly the vet is someone who is willing to treat a gunshot wound for someone who can't go to the hospital. this puts him in contact with people who do "that kind of work"

In BB didn't they say Kaylee's mom was Mike's daughter, or was that just what many assumed? I'm sure they didn't say it because VG wouldn't just change the story like that, but all along I thought the lady was his daughter, not daughter in law.

Hopefully this show turns to Mike and Saul as co-stars, more so than being 90% Saul. Don't get me wrong I'm as interested in Saul's past as I am Mike's, but I'd rather see more of those two than the random new characters that have entered Saul's story lines (the Kettlemans and his crazy brother).

As some have said, hopelully the Vet's connection in ABQ is Gus, or someone that leads to Gus. One of my favorite secondary-leads in BB, and since he has a back story that wasn't fully explained he'd be a perfect addition....even if its next season.

They have already been renewed for season 2, so we have plenty of time for things to play out.

Really good episode, best of the series and very BBesque. Violence tragedy and moral sidesteps all meshed together, behind a slow burning plot.
My only fear for the show is that they were only able to pull it off when Saul wasn't the focus.

Help me with a scene. I think week of 3-4.

Mike is sitting in his car in a neighborhood. A woman in a car stops, looks at him, and drives away.

Who was that and when was that?

His Daughter in law? I'm trying to keep all the timelines straight. Is that current in the BCS timeframe? After he told her what really happened?

Because I thought he talked to her in BB.

Sorry if obvious. Been working a lot and usually have to watch this at midnight.

That was his daughter-in-law. I'm pretty sure it was present day since I believe it showed him leaving his shift at the parking lot and driving over there.

I think maybe she cut ties with him after the scene where he was in the backyard pushing his granddaughter on the swings (he had just arrived in ABQ). I don't think she believed him about the phone conversation her husband had.

He told her "I'm around and would like to help you with the granddaughter".

I think he just went by to get a glimpse of her.

Are we assuming that she called the Philly detectives after she saw him? Or was it just a coincidence they showed up right after that?

Yeah but after she saw him in the car on the street.

Think this is the right order of things

She saw him on the street in the car
Cops showed up
Flashback to him visiting in the backyard
Saul and Mike in the interrogation room
Flashback further to Mike in Philly
Mike breaking the news to her

I actually wondered the same thing, it seems like she calls the cops in Philly because she spots him outside the house.

seeing him in the car was current day imo. she cuts ties with him after he tells her the story.

calling the cops after she sees him in the street implies she was surprised to see him there. considering she picked him up from the train station, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

he arrives in ABQ with a gunshot wound
conversation at the house, she is suspicious that husband was taking to mike early in the morning
she finds money, starts piecing things together, and calls cops in philly
philly cops interrogate mike
mike gets pissed at her, then comes back later and tells her the truth
she cuts him off because it's too much for her to live with (implied)
she sees him outside the house trying to catch a glimpse of his granddaughter in present day

Cops interrogated Mike in present day. Remember he called Jimmy/Saul?

I have to say, as great as the episode is, I think they made it a little too confusing, timeline-wise.

First we had him arriving in ABQ and talking to her in an extended flashback, then it cuts to "present day" when he's being interrogated, then it cuts back to a flashback that's farther back than the first one.

I know showing the earlier flashback first wouldn't have made sense, but the way they did it did create a bit of confusion.

that's correct. hmm. so you think pick up from train station + convo, then she's surprised to see him on the street? i guess i remembered them leaving convo 1 on ok terms, why is he creeping outside the house? also, we saw him leave his present job to go to the house right? or did i make that up

i'm now confused.
