I think people are severely underrating both Hrastar and Jennifer Jackson.

Bold predictions: Hrastar is an all-American at Auburn this year & Jackson plays top 3 for the Aggies by the end of the spring, if she plays.

I think the Jackson prediction is bold, but I wouldn't hate it! If that comes true, this team will win the natty again. Especially considering the summer MIA and Lulu have had.

She may not end up playing that high because she's a freshman on a championship team, but she is definitely that same elite talent level as Mary & Carson and is a future singles and doubles all-American, in my opinion.

I agree on Jennifer's upside and I've seen her play live, but I see no way she plays top 3 for a healthy Aggie squad in the Spring. We have three players in the top 15 of all of college with 11+ UTRs. If Jennifer passes one of them Freshman year hello natty and she will go pro not long after. Would love to see it. If she plays #5 ahead of Jeanette - which I could see happening - watch out.

I disagree with Hrastar. I think many have been overrating her. It's much easier to get those accolades playing high in the lineup on a average team than lower in the lineup on an elite team. She has some good results but some real head scratchers as well.

For example, Lulu would have played #1 for many teams and would be the clear #1 for Auburn next year. Mia would likely be #1 for Auburn too. Instead of the individual accolades, they win championships and add a ton of depth to an elite team which will make them better players as they are challenged every day. Same is true at UNC, Stanford, Georgia, etc. That's where we are now.

I hope Ava has a great year at Auburn with Jordan and loves her decision. I also hope A&M signs a 10.7+ UTR and goes back to back. We are that close (again).

Fun times. Can't wait.

Adding Reed and Jackson to the already excellent and experienced team is going to be fun to watch!

I disagree.

We will see!

Her UTR only put her at line 6 at most in our current lineup. Great doubles player, though. This really seems like Mark releasing someone bc he knows someone else is coming. Ava comes here for one year to compete for a conference and national title at line 6 singles and line 3 doubles, or she goes to Auburn, is guaranteed a top 3 singles line and line 1 doubles and plans for a future in tennis after college. That's the way I see it strictly based on numbers.

Agree. A win for everyone.

UTR is very imperfect. You can't compare college results to junior results to South American results on clay.

You also can't compare a UTR gotten playing number one to UTR gotten playing three or four. There's a different level of pressure being the top dog and playing the other teams best player every single match.

I'm not saying I know any better than y'all, but I just don't think it's a simple as lining up the UTRs and making rock solid assumptions based on that. No one even knows the UTR algorithm yet everyone treats it like it's the Bible of Tennis. UTR also changes. Pielet had an 11+ UTR at one point and now she's playing for North Texas.

Anyway, I think Hrastar is going to prove to be very, very good and I think it was a dirty move to poach her. I also think Jennifer Jackson is even better and our team is going to be just fine.

HOWEVER, it is meaningful enough that the conference will force a UTR lineup at conference finals and ncaa will also frown upon obvious lineup manipulation. I think a graduate student that has a career high UTR of 10.15 is solid, but isn't going to play top 3 or 4 for us. You cannot seriously argue that. At MOST she would have been line 5 and more than likely she's fighting for line 6. Doubles? She would factor into either line 2 or 3. Whatever line Jeanette and Nicole aren't playing. She could have seen what happened to Sydney Fitch and flinched.

I do not think she was poached. She either realized she isn't good enough to see the top of the lineup at A&M, or Mark has someone else he's targeted and he released her.

UTR is meaningful. It's just not the Bible. It's a meaningful point of reference, but not the final word. ITA uses WTN not UTR. Not that it makes any difference.

I'm pretty sure Hrastar, a number one SEC player and a doubles all American, did not go elsewhere because she was scared about what happened to a walk-on from Air Force. No disrespect to Sydney, but that's a pretty silly comparison.

I do agree with you for the most part. I guess we will see. I don't feel like it's that big of a loss. Wish her well, though.

aggiedrjdub gets it. Of course it's not perfect but it is easily the best measure available.

I don't have inside intel here so someone may correct me, but I also think Mark signed off on this. I simply don't see Jordan hurting the program he's dedicated much of his life to.
aggietennisfan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Don't know all the scoop here, but Hrastar was signed so Mark had to agree to her not coming to Texas A&M. Wouldn't be surprised if there was some foul play involved, but Mark did let her leave even though he didn't have to.

That Lopata jump is so impressive. Only loss we took in the final.

Georgia has 7 players 10.4 or above. Top 4 are pretty much dead even across the two teams (although I take our top 4). They have a slight edge at 5 and 6.

One big addition solves that.

Jordan was pretty quick to let everyone know that he did ALL the recruiting. I guess we will see if that is true soon enough.

Thankful for his contributions, but hope he is at the business end of some pretty severe whippings over the next few years.

Jordan definitely did a lot of the heavy lifting on the recruiting front, however, Mark never just sat out. Mark hired someone in Jordan who could fill in where it was needed to make an elite program, that being recruiting. Mark has always been involved and has taken several trips around the country and world to visit and see recruits. He's a down to earth relational guy, and i think people might put him in the same box that they did Elko when he first arrived, but look how that is going. Either way Mark will hire to his "weakness" it's what all great leaders do.

Mark is a very smart guy and gets the big picture and is one of the most humble guys you will ever meet and will never take credit for anything nor does he need to for his own ego because there is none. The recruiting is overseen by Mark and he uses his assistants to cover all areas involved in recruiting. I think everyone appreciated Jordan and he was a great fit for what Mark needs. However, Jordan is a very big self promoter and oftentimes would come off the wrong way with me and the way he would present himself. A very unhappy person that hopefully can find happiness at Auburn.

Mark released her. He didn't have to. I think you'll find there is no problem between Mark and Jordan about this.

It's ironic that none of the current girls transferred to play for Jordan at Auburn. I find that a bit interesting. Mark obviously did all the recruiting with Hrastar and now she is the lone person going to Auburn. The recruiting storylines don't seem to quite add up to me.

good for mary, have to admit though i was hoping for a main draw wc. with that however, if she plays at the level that i've seen her play this summer she will have a good chance of advancing through the qualifying rounds. Hopefully reese brantmier's legal case can get the temporary injunction allowing Mary to keep any earnings she gets above expenses.

Daria is the only one I thought may follow. Simply for playing time. So glad this group gets another year together.

Lulu conquered Argentina and now finally gets to enjoy what's left of her summer vacation in Peru by playing more tennis.

Estimated start is 5:30 pm.

I'm sure most realize, but Vecic played #2 for Georgia in the NCAA final. Lulu played #5. We were just unstoppable in the tourney.

I don't appreciate fellow Aggies cutting up Jordan like this. He gave everything to both of the tennis programs for over a decade and the national championship would not have happened without him, so lets show some respect.

Saying that he is an unhappy person is highly uncalled for and comes from someone who obviously does not know him at all.

Yeah...Carson destroyed her on that 3rd set. I sat on that court watching it live.

I was there too!

The race to the finish between Carson and Nicole was one of the best sports moments that I've ever experienced. They were both simply hitting their opponents off the court. Just beautiful tennis.

Small minority. If you go through the threads you will see many Aggies thanking him and wishing him well at Auburn.

I think he will be very successful and would be happy to see him take the reins one day when Mark chooses to retire.

Until then, I hope he gets second in the SEC every year with a 7-0 loss to his alma mater.

I hope he embraces the new tradition that Les started and beats Georgia every year.
