they drain the gas before weighing so that's not it.
lighter car = faster so i'm sure they all try to get as close to the minimum as possible. guessing merc just screwed something up because they know the car is going to get weighed.

The speculation on twitter is because he went so long on the hard tires, he lost way too much tire rubber. Normally they drive off the racing line during the victory lap and pickup all the leftover rubber on the track to add weight just to make sure. At Spa they U-turn at the pit exit and go straight to victory lane.

Good point about not being able to pick tire rubber on the victory lap, just needed 3 pounds.
race was good because it had tension but the lack of overtaking was disappointing. You had a lot of drivers keeping close but not able to overtake on a track like Spa really took the shine off. All in not a bad race just frustrating these cars are either DRS or nothing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Seemed like very few on track battles until the very end and even those were lacking. All the lead changes were because of pit stops except for Lewis in the begginingg. I think they shortened the DRS zone too much. Don't want cars flying by like they are standing still but maybe an extra 30m might have more opportunity to overtake and the end of the Kemmel Straight.

Drivers used to starve themselves to shave thousandths. Minimum weight stopped that.
It wasn't intentional, but Checo totally screwed Max today by letting Russell stay in his DRS so long. Lap after lap of mini DRS train destroyed Max's chances at that overtake.
Poor George. I watched the whole joyous podium ceremony (DVR) knowing he was going to get DQed. He was sooo happy and smug during his interview too.

Also feel that Sainz should have taken a fat bag from Audi vs lingering in the back with Williams. I love Williams, but they're a total longshot.
I know Audi hasn't fully taken over yet, but Sauber is in complete turmoil with an absolute **** car. Williams will actually fight for some points occasionally. It's likely a two year deal anyway.
Hopefully this isn't the end for Logan. His race data shows he's got the speed. But I'm tossing my Williams gear - I'm disgusted by their stance of zero upgrades and a band-aid car but need points.

It seems Red Bull is fine with throwing away the constructors as long as Red Bull cans keep selling in Mexico.
It also feels they have no faith in Danny Ric or Tsunoda. Wouldn't be surprised if they forgot Iwasa exists.
Still hoping Lawson, Hadjar, and Lindblad make it to F1 under the RBR Academy one day.

Promoting Lawson directly into that seat makes the most sense to me. Danny Ric hasn't done enough, (yeah I'm not a fan, but be honest with yourself), and Yuki has too much red mist to pair with Verstappen.

If Red Bull is content to run Checo out there for the second half then wouldn't the logical corresponding move be to end the Danny Ric experience and swap Liam back in to see if he is an option for 25?
Yeah I am liking Hadjar a lot too. Definitely think he has more highlight moments than Iwasa did. The RB Academy is also imploding cause Marko got rid of Kacper Stzuka mid season and he recently trashed Tim Tramnitz for no reason lol. Think the next big hope for Red Bull after Hadjar is Arvid Lindblad

I agree with you in that Marko's time has passed. His style isn't effective anymore. If we include/go all the way back to Christian Klien and Neel Jani, the hit rate for the RBR academy has been abysmal. Burning through champions in other categories like Hartley and De Vries just shows he is out of touch. Firing like 40 drivers to find a Vettel and a Verstappen is crazy. It was also extremely obvious Verstappen was going to be that guy and Toto would've signed him otherwise, (hence the open courtship from him now).
Ricciardo is a clown. I used to like him. But, he's not serious enough to be on a top team.
