He had a brilliant junior career so I am hoping he does really well, but he is moving to a completely new team so we will see how it goes. He was clear of Zhou last year and that F2 grid was pretty strong.

Q2 gets red flagged because someone threw a smoking orange flare onto the track.

It was pretty tough last year, but hopefully the new DRS zone on the final turn helps out.

Max takes pole and Checo spins out and yellows everyone else out.

Lol, this time it benefited Max, instead of screwing him over.

horrible. The F2 sprint race was boring and barely had any. I fear tomorrow will be an F1 snooze fest

Ferrari disaster yet again. Sainz pit stop botched. One of the tyres didn't even come out with the others

Mercedes going against the grain by starting on Mediums while most of the other contenders start on Softs

Vettel's exit from the pit complicates Hamilton's breakaway from Checo, and Hamilton loses time to Max as a result.

He certainly has a gripe. It's like Mercedes took a page out of Ferrari's strategy book at the end of this race.

So much pace in that Red Bull, Mercedes fumbled the strategy a little bit but I'm not sure there was really anything they could do in the end.

Mercedes slowly but surely making their way back up to 2nd in the Constructors' standings. If Ferrari doesn't stop with their blundering, they will finish 3rd overall.

Going back to the sainz pit stop. Should Ferrari not be penalized for having their gun so far out that Perez ran over it?

Would think that's a huge fine because of safety

Saw the note that it would be investigated after the race. I figure it's at least monetary, not sure anything beyond that.

Still watching the race….. so sainz had the pit where Perez ran over his gun, passed someone in a yellow sector, then didn't safely exit his pit in lap 59….any other dangerous bone head moves?

Herta's not going to have the points for super license being so far down in the championship. He'll have to get in on force majeure. There are already comments from a couple of team principles suggesting they aren't for this, but I doubt they have a vote on the decision.

Here are two articles about the Colton Herta super license situation. This first one is an objective look. The second one has comments from drivers and team principals.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/fia-considering-hertas-super-licence-credentials/

https://www.racefans.net/2022/09/03/f1-team-bosses-criticised-for-opposing-superlicence-rules-break-for-herta/

Will be interesting to see how the FIA rules on this if there is a seat for him.

Yeah, I think with some time and perspective, Hamilton will realize there weren't a lot of good options for him.

But in the moment, I can see how pissed he was... probably more pissed than anything about Russell getting soft and putting Max directly behind him. I think the end would have been the same except maybe Hamilton would have held on to #2.

nah - just all that plus driving way slower than his team mate. Terrible day for Sainz.

Was he pissed about Russell pitting or was he pissed that they didn't have him pit? Hindsight is 20/20 but seems the best move would have been to pit both of them. Then they'd have had a legit chance for a 2 & 3 finish.

Awesome! Don't want them to sell half of the team just to make the deal happen. Would rather Honda reinvest and maybe buy Alpha Tauri while also working a naming deal with RB powertrains.

With all the DNFs and craziness that happens in F1 I'm shocked anyone ever runs Hard Compound tires. Just run soft, medium, medium/soft every race.

I'm also totally lost when announcers say things like hards take time to warm up then Russell immediately sets a fastest lap today on em. Mercedes was flying on the hards
