It certainly looked like verstappen crossed the yellow line coming out of pit lane

Yes but was it a slide or intentional or both? He counter steered quite a big which makes me think he hit the gas a little too soon.

I have been to Monaco, but never for a race. Since they have not signed a contract yet, do you think they will skip it for a couple of years?

I feel like since it is almost never competitive, that they need a special car that is much smaller car that is kind of a one off to run if they keep racing there

I can't imagine any way Monaco falls off the schedule. It's just who blinks first in negotiations.

That all being said, thanks to Netflix and the work Liberty Media has done expanding the reach the last 5 years, this may be the first time where Monaco needs F1 more than F1 needs Monaco.

Zac Brown chose to be at Indy instead of Monaco this weekend.

They used to have 600kg cars that were 1.8m wide. It was still a procession.

Does not matter. You must remain in control of your car exiting pit lane, and not cross that line.

Feel like they'll always keep racing at Monaco due to the glamour aspect of the event. If it was another historic track that was just a circuit in the middle of nowhere, it'd probably be toast.

Red Bull should be absolutely thrilled. Both Spain and Monaco were better suited to the Ferrari and Red Bull ended up having better days in both.

The deficit in the points between Checo and Max is Checo's bad strategy call in Jeddah and last week's team orders. Something to file away as this season progress. Of course, Max had the extra retirement in Australia, to Checo's benefit.

Baku is a track Checo has been really good at in the past, and the Alpine's are fast in a straight line. The next two tracks should benefit Red Bull, really, with Canada being fairly high speed, as well.

Awesome!

Guess that means Gasly is leaving AT. Wonder if Tsunoda stays and I guess Vipps gets Gasly's seat.

Speaking of Gasly, not sure what move he can make at the end of 2023. McLaren will probably replace Ricciardo at the end of this year with Herta or O'Ward. Alpine is considering F2 champ Piastri for Alonso. Only real paths to a better car that I see are Hamilton retiring from Mercedes or Sainz continuing to rack up a hefty repair bill so that Ferrari seat becomes available.

If Schumacher doesn't get it together, probably leaves a Haas seat open next year for a Ferrari academy driver and Alfa Romeo if Zhou's Chinese sponsors don't pay up. Maybe a seat at Aston if Vettel is done. None of those would seem to be an improvement from Alpha Tauri, though. (De Vries is likely at Williams and probably in line for the next Merc seat).

Really sucks for him though. I would say he is a top 10 driver, if not closer to top 5, in F1. Just sucks that everyone is in a rush to give seats to the youngest up and comers so they don't miss out if they are the next Hamilton/Vettel/Verstappen. But chances are the majority will end up having careers more in line with Magnussen/Hulkenburg/Ricciardo, not that it's bad at all.

He did have an RB seat but got dropped back to Toro Rosso. I think RB made a mistake on that but PG shares a little blame. But Marko will never admit he made a mistake so Pierre is screwed.

Something tells me it wasn't just his single year performance that set him back. I mean he got replaced by Albon.....

I think he was in his own head too much. They said he obsessed over the numbers and wasn't driving on instinct. I'm sure he was overly comparing his numbers to Max which is unrealistic. He has definitely turned the corner starting in 2020 though. He has been driving with a chip on his shoulder since then.

It's just a shame that he will either have to stick it out with AT, which it doesn't sound like he wants to do, or go to a lesser team. I think he deserves a top seat. I honestly think he is better than Checo, but Checo is the perfect #2 driver.

RB really, really wants to win the Constructor's Championship and the prize money. Perez can actually perform to the level needed and it doesn't seem like either Gasly or Albon can do so. The top teams really need to have two drivers consistently scoring points and it looks like for 2022 that's the case for RB, Ferrari, and Merc. Fans are typically more invested in the drivers, but the money is pretty big for the constructors. I think Merc walked away with around $73M for the 2021 season and that was quite a bit more than RB. One of the big factors for Merc changing their 2nd driver was the fear that Bottas wouldn't be able to keep pace with the 2nd drivers for RB and Ferrari. McLaren feels they have a star in Norris and really need a 2nd driver that can perform close to that level so they can think about competing for one of the top constructor spots. Ricciardo isn't it.

Although DR is known for his late-breaking on overtakes, his typical driving style is to actually lift off earlier so he can apply the throttle earlier in the corner. The Red Bull and to some extent the Renault did work for DR's driving style as they are very rearward balanced. The McLaren is more frontward balanced. The issue is simply that DR can't re-train himself to brake at the different corner points, so he is braking earlier than Norris, and waiting longer for the car to rotate in the corner. He is consistently losing time entering and exiting each corner, to Norris.

After a year and a half, it's pretty clear DR isn't going to be able to adapt his driving style, and McLaren isn't going to ruin Norris's comfort and confidence in the car to placate DR. I think that's also why Brown is targeting an IndyCar driver to replace him.

Hard to say he's better than Checo this year. Maybe last year. This year he's clearly the #3, and could argue #2, driver on the grid.

I only know what I saw on DTS, but PG took it personally when he was demoted from Red Bull and it seems like he used that anger to get better.

The AT car went from top 1/3 on the grid to bottom 1/3. Hard to compare them this year.

I love Checo. He's easily my second favorite driver since I started watching when he was with Force India. But Gasly is a better driver when he is at his best. Doesn't mean he's a better #2 for Max.

This. He deserves a top seat.

On a side note, what is the American fascination with McLaren? Is it the sponsors (DeWalt,Dell,Coke) or did those come after they realized their market? I feel like Americans liked them before Ricciardo, who identifies as Texan. Is it because they are in IndyCar? Is it because Zak is American? Serious question.

I'd guess it's because they are the 2nd winningest team behind Ferrari, and the most popular and revered driver of all time, Aryton Senna, drove for them most of his career.

I guess I'm speaking more to the casual/new American fan. They wouldn't know the history of McLaren, only what they have seen recently. But point taken.
