This every other week schedule is killing me. Has it always been like this and I got spoiled by the Covid calendar of back to back race weeks?

This is by design to assist teams with time to understand what they learned each week in the new car regulations. It'll pick up after Miami.

It's almost impossible logistics wise for them to have race weekends back to back unless they're only traveling a short distance
That makes sense. But then why don't they stay in one region for a while rather than randomly bouncing across the globe?
I'm sure another factor is tinkering with the car like was mentioned above.

Canada -> Miami -> Austin -> Mexico -> Brazil
save money and time spent on logistics instead of:
Melbourne -> Imola -> Miami -> Spain -> Monaco -> Azerbaijan?

All about money. Keep interest up in North America by coming back each month. Back to backs to backs would cause fatigue. This may change someday as in Europe there's sellouts all the time.

The teams essentially have multiple of everything in transport at all times. Team's Brazil infrastructure (even as small as things like silverware for food) were completely different than for Qatar.
They don't stack all the N American or all the European races back to back to back because it would cause fatigue in interest (or at least that's what the organizers think).

Yeah, I remember when I started watching consistently a full season was 16 races from March to November. There were a lot of no race weekends. Of course back then the teams had unlimited budgets and there was no restriction on testing, so on non race weeks the teams would be at Silverstone, Barcelona, or Fiorano running tests. Not a full swap but George Russell raced for Mercedes when he was still with Williams (when Hamilton was out with COVID). Also, Mick Schumacher is a Ferrari reserve driver so he could potentially race for them if something happened while still with Haas, I believe.
Sainz went from Toro Rosso (Alpha Tauri) to Renault in 2017 when Jolyon was kicked out. And before that Ocon drove for Manor while he was a reserve for Force India. Manor were using Merc engines so that's probably why, but the team went under that year anyway. I remember the team principal had a likable attitude.

Just saw this, tickets are effing insane. And third party just **** you even more with their bull**** fees. I'm gonna be there in Miami, but no way I'm paying for that

The demand for Miami GP tickets is incredible. A few people we know have had to cancel their plans and they've made a nice amount selling their tickets/passes.
