Awesome that the sport is gaining traction domestically, but really afraid that ESPN is gonna see the ratings and try to take over the broadcast and...do what ESPN does.
Dangit, now that you have said that, I am going to start having nightmares about Joe Buck calling COTA.

Apparently Seb has still not tested negative for COVID and may miss Jeddah as well.

I'm not too concerned about it. This aligns more with international soccer than anything. Unlike football, MLB, etc

Not worth ESPN paying the extra production cost when Sky Sports is such a plug and play fix for them imo

Semi surprised this wasn't really a big issue last year.

We've had people at work testing positive up to a few months after recovery trying to fly international

Yeah. I agree. ESPN is just licensing the right to air the Sky Sports live broadcast. I think US fans would riot against Liberty Media and F1 if ESPN got rights for their own live broadcast in the US.

ESPN already ruined the broadcasting quality by porting the Sky Sports broadcast. Steve Matchet, Bob Varsha, and David Hobbs were a great great trio that did an amazing job with the F1 broadcasts.

Sky Sports is a drag to listen to, comparatively speaking because they are so incredibly biased. The constant water carrying for anything or anyone British is nauseating.

This is so stupid. It's been known for years now that you can test positive for up to 60 days in some cases. He's clearly out of the woods in terms of being able to transmit the disease. Let the guy race.

This is absolutely a joke. Feel ok? No temp? Race.

As for last year, I feel like the COVID tests were more "accurate" with those strands vs for some reason this omicron strand seems to linger on tests...

I think it's pretty obvious Seb saw how the car performed last week and said "no, i'd rather stay sick thanks"

For the race in Austin, hasn't ABC had an American broadcast? I don't think that ESPN would try and put together a traveling crew for the foreseeable future, but it might not be so far fetched if US interest continues to grow

The last two years (covid) there's been an American crew for the Tour de France broadcasting from the US watching monitors and listening to radio.

Those guys were pretty terrible. The only good thing they had was Wil Buxton. The rest of them were in a studio back in the States watching the global feed. Matchet had some crew insights from his time on Jos Verstappen's pit crew at Benetton, but that was about it. They also cut for commercials during the race.

More confirmations for Vegas. I fear Austin has its days counted, no wonder the deal was only for 5 years.

article in ESPN suggested also trying to add a race in New York, so maybe its an expansion vs shifting venues, unless its to offset the Russia GP which won't be back any time soon.

Come on man, they are making HUGE headway into the United States market. COTA isnt getting cut in favor of a non-purpose built facility. BTW, good luck competing against the NFL or college football. Choose wisely on that race time on PST.

Liberty Media isn't fond of Bobby Epstein. The COTA deal took almost 2 years to get signed.

Assuming Vegas happens, the Thanksgiving date is actually tempting. Starting this year my plan is to hit 3 races a year, but obviously don't want to get stuck in the same continent for all. This year I have Canada, UK, and Austin. My plan for next year was to do either Spain or Italy (Imola), Austin in October, and Vegas in November wouldn't break the bank that bad.

Austin is matched with the Mexico race and Vegas would be paired with Miami.

The correct amount of fuel was in both cars, but a vacuum prevented the pumps from drawing fuel and delivering it to the engine."

From what I can tell, the Aramco facility that was hit is only about 12 miles away from the track.

Edited to change the distance from 6 to 12 miles away. Earlier reports had it closer.

FIA has to thinking about cancelling the race due to the drivers' safety. I have to think this will be the last race in Saudi Arabia for a long time or if ever again. I could see as more tracks and countries want races that they pull out of the middle east all together

I'm not sure about that. Too much money in the ME funding the races.

They were already keeping an eye on the situation and mildly considering cancelling the race earlier in the week. However, things quieted down a little and everything just proceeded as normal. Will be interesting to see what they do. F2 qualifying is going on right now so they haven't cancelled anything yet.
