Bastrop 100%. It's a straight shot up 71 to COTA. Coming from Buda you'll deal with regular 35 and Austin traffic plus all the COTA traffic from Austin. Bastrop has some nice restaurants on the river too

I stayed in Buda last year for the race and it was very easy driving from the hotel to the track and back each day. And getting to 71 from COTA isn't so easy even on a regular day. Even from the lot n side. The traffic management heading to Buda from the track was great Friday and Saturday. The only traffic issue was leaving Sunday after the race heading back to CS.

Yeah we are always up and out of our seats before the last lap and up on the hill we have an easy head start out of there. On Saturday last year was the first time we had ever gotten caught up in it and it was awful. 45+ minutes just sitting in one spot.

That's wild. We stayed until end of qualifying, took our time packing up from GA at turn 11 and had no issue heading back to the hotel from lot L.

The podcast, The Race F1 Podcast mentioned that the new fuel burns at a much higher temperature than previously expected. With the limited testing in hot climates, there wasn't a whole lot of warning for the teams.

Since the fuel travels throughout the car, it heats up just about everything else as well.

Yeah, The Race also posted a video on YouTube and explained that Red Bull didn't do any low fuel testing so they wouldn't have experienced the problem. But most other teams did test in that scenario and had seen the issue. Which to me is a big mistake by Red Bull to not test in that scenario.

Really? That is wild! I had understood their comments to mean the other teams had similar issues.

I think we'll see a completely different grid post summer break when all the teams can really dig in and change things up.

Apparently Leclerc has jokes. Right after Verstappen retired, Leclerc radioed in that he was having trouble with the engine. He paused for a couple of beats and said, "just kidding".

His team must have nearly had a heart attack

The joke was that he used the EXACT same words ("Theres something strange with the Engine") in a race a few years ago right before he lost a race due to engine problems. It must have been pretty significant such that he and the team would remember the words n the race.

I prefer they keep it a little shorter and have the same media teams and the teams have the same groups of support staff. They keep pushing all of this talk about having 2 full supporting crews for F1media and for the teams so that they don't keep people away from their families for too long during the year. I say they quit virtue signaling and just do more races or keep the season shorter so there is no "need" for them to do this.

Somewhat related, where was David Croft on the broadcast for Bahrain, was he out sick? It wasn't the same without him. I can't imagine them subbing for him in the first race of the season.
AKA the Command Center guy...

It might not be that bad if they were to align it the right way to get consecutive races closer together. Something like:

  • Europe swing
  • Asia/Australia Swing
  • Americas Swing

    23 races is too many. IMO 19-20 races is the right number. I remember when I started following F1 it was typically 16-17 races per season. But they also had unlimited testing back then, so between every race a lot of drivers would spend their off weeks at Fiorano, Barcelona, or Silverstone doing testing.

    Awesome that the sport is gaining traction domestically, but really afraid that ESPN is gonna see the ratings and try to take over the broadcast and...do what ESPN does.
