I hope the changes made for Jeddah this year make it safer without losing the drama of last year. That track was dangerous

Going to the Indy Car race today at Texas Motor Speedway today so I'm gonna have to stay off social media and watch the recorded F1 race when I get home.

I really enjoyed this thread last year, sad I won't be able to follow along live with y'all for the first race, but just glad Motorsports are back in full swing.

To quote Jost from Williams: "Lets go racing!"

I wonder if PWest is going to be able to avoid results after that ending

Has F1 ever had a vapor lock issue? They kept mentioning the new fuel getting hot near the end of the testing laps.

I wonder if this is due to running 10% bio fuel starting this season? I assume that means ethanol.

Red Bull and Alpha Tauri are in trouble if the red bull powerplant cant go the distance. I bet they have those issues resolved before next weekend.

Question:

Do they fly those cars back to Milton Keyes to work on or because it is a short week, can they work on them tonight and tomorrow in Bahrain? I don't think they can work on them in Saudi Arabia until Thursday
La Fours

I don't think they would fly the cars back to the factory and then to Saudi. But not sure when they will get to work on them either. Maybe they send those cars back and fly in new ones.

They probably fly the PU's back to UK, inspect, correct/replace/repair, then send them back to Saudi for install on chassis.

Either way, probably not going to be a lot of sleep for the Red Bull engineers this week

Someone is probably already at a dyno trying to simulate all the possible heat sources along the fuel path as the car goes from race speed down to SC laps and back to race speed, or what happens when switching fuel lift pumps as the tank empties during the race

if Haas can place 5th or 6th in the constructors cup, how much does that add millions wise to Haas?

Incredibly excited for the Haas performance today. I can't imagine the feeling after sacrificing last year. Showing up every day, being away from your family, putting a car out there knowing it was going to get its ass kicked race after race. Then, today, to finally see a glimmer of hope of that strategy paying off. WOW!

Hopefully they continue to tweak and improve the car to maintain this momentum.

According to Craig Scarborough it was a standardized part that failed, so it would seem all teams are at risk. He speaks about it at the 11 minute mark in this Peter Windsor video.

Can anybody share a good source to see what all the changes are from last year to this year? Was surprised none of the shows this week talked about it much. I didnt follow at all in the offseason.

Cross post from Automotive-

Secured 3-day tickets to the Austin USGP event and have questions on where to stay. Parking in Lot N. I have reserved a hotel in both Buda and Bastrop and want to know pros and cons of each location. Need to pick one location. Taking my college aged daughter who has become a fan recently due to "Drive to Survive". I've casually followed F1 though-out the years but have never been to an event. I've toured the Austin racetrack a few years back when I had a company event there using the go-carts…will probably be a much different experience on race day!

Thanks in advance!

Just something to keep an eye on this week...there is a small chance there won't be a race this weekend. There was a missile attack on the Jeddah region of Saudi Arabia yesterday.

I'm sure some of you have seen me post this before, but the two best F1 podcasts I've found are;

Beyond the Grid, Tom Clarkson interviews, past and present F1 driver, mechanics, team owners, etc. Really good stuff. Alan Jones interview from a few years back is freaking awesome. Some of you new fans might not appreciate it, but when he tells Clarkson his opinion of Nelson Piquet, I just about fell out of my chair laughing.

Bring Back V10's, Glenn Freeman interviews drivers, owners, etc. from F1's glory days of V10 power (1989-2006; OK, V10's weren't a rule until 1995, but 3.5 normally aspirated engines were the rule in 1989). First two episodes he discussed Prost being fired by Ferrari after the 1991 season.

Where are you coming from? I live in Buda, and can tell you that there are more "Austin" like things to do in the area if you are planning on that stuff as well. Easy drive to the track on 45/130 toll. Can't speak to the traffic once you are off the toll though. If you are looking at a hotel near Cabelas there are several restaurants in walking distance.

Houston. In Buda, I have a hotel reserved next to Cabela's. Was more curious about traffic form Bastrop vs Buda as they appear similar in distance on the map. I was thinking that more people would come from Austin everyday than Bastrop. Also, it looks like Lot N is on the Bastrop side, or at least accessible from, of the COTA grounds.

Traffic was no problem last year coming from Bastrop.

Personally I would rather stay in Buda though - way more options to eat.
