I assume they weren't sure which to go with, and wanted to test both designs.

Question: Is there a date, in which they have to solidify the design, or some of the design...or can they change anything they want as the year goes on?

I know of recent changes during the season (like when Max got fined for measuring the Mercedes rear wing dimensions). But Im wondering if there are restrictions to what can be changed, or if everything/anything can be changed as the season progresses.

Per James Allison, it's more an evolution of their development. They did the same in 2017 and 2019:

"So the second week is better than first week from that point of view.

"It might take you six or eight weeks to make a floor or whatever. If you've got more of your composites department available and more of your machining capacity available, you can do it in a shorter [time].
"So not only have you bought the extra week by going [with the final spec] to the second test rather than the first, but you've bought an extra couple by having more of your physical resource available to work on it because they are not working on everything else.

"So we did that in '17 and we judged that '19 was going to be sufficiently big a thing that it would be worth the effort again. That very clear to us at the point where our first windtunnel run [to the new rules] was 2.5s down, 25% down.

"We knew that the line would look [steep] like that and this method of working would probably reward us."

Halfway through ep2 now. I love Danny Ric. He just dropped a great quote, "What if I'm just a c-nt?" I feel for the guy watching this episode. And I have been a fan of him since season one of DTS.

Yeah, ep4 was meh on the Mazepin stuff. But give me all the Guenther.

I would love to see Netflix/HBO/Amazon Prime make a Hard Knocks/All or Nothing style show about an F1 team and have Haas be the first one.

Agree. Good stuff.

I like how un-subtly they compare/contract Toto and Christian. Christian is happy to jump in and talk S on folks. Toto is much more reserved and circumspect.

I'd really like to see an episode or 2 dedicated to the pit crews - I'd like to know how hard this schedule is on for them, how the folks got to be on pit crews, how they train, etc, etc. I think that would be awesome.

That scene reinforced my belief that Toto is a diva. His order took something like 20 seconds and sounded so condescending. The lady next to him was decent enough to say please and thank you and ordered something simple.
