"Shock and sadness" but we hope it's resolved so we can race.

Sounds to me that if Putin finishes he conquest in time, they'll still hold the Russian Grand Prix and that's not a good look. But hey, we just had the Olympics in China, so who knows. Not the best take, in my opinion.

As much as F1 fans may have a lot of disdain for Mazepin (see Jeremy Clarkson tweet), he is in a difficult position here. If he doesn't denounce the war, he is seen as a Russian supporter. If he does denounce it, he risks his own well-being back in Russia.

I am sure that all he wants to do is race for HAAS, but that may not be possible if his presence is going to be a major disruption to the sport.

I don't know much about Clarkson but that was a total deek move.
Yeah, Nikita is terrible and he wouldn't be here without daddy's money but come on man.

Sorry, not sympathetic to the dude. He is clearly a POS on his own and the only reason he has a seat in the first place is because of his rich corrupt Russian Putin-supporting Daddy tossing his money around. He's not a good person, nor a good driver, and had no place in F1 before Russia went into conquest mode. Its really not hard for him to tweet about "working hard and doing my best" on Twitter. People wouldn't be crapping on a Russian driver that actually earned his seat and was a respectable person. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Mazepin family.

Weak ****ing statements from F1 and Mazepin. I don't have sympathy for him at all. I doubt much would happen to him because of his profile and father's status. If he really felt like he were in danger, he has the means to leave Russia.

Regardless, we aren't talking about a "oh I might get in trouble at work or lose my job" situation. A whole has country has been invaded and people are dying. If he's wondering what side should he stand on, it seems like a pretty easy choice to make.


Also let's not forget he flat out groped a woman just before the start of last season and didnt give a **** about it. He's not exactly a great dude to begin with

If Mazepin is out, Pietro would go in.

Curious to know what would happen to other russians in the sport, like Bobby Schwartzmann who is actually likable and is the reserve driver for Ferrari, and Irina Sidorkova who is in W Series (she was the one that got her visa denied and didn't race at COTA last year).

Unless Schwartzmann or Sidorkova are also the children of Russian oligarchs who sponsor their team/paid for the seat, I don't see why they can't continue to race. Seems pretty obvious to cut ties with Nikita if Haas drops Uralkali. I'm guessing Gene and Guenther are playing the optics game right now in hopes this is over quickly, and in a few months can bring back the Uralkali money and Nikita. Otherwise, I bet Haas won't have enough money to finish the year. Maybe even start the year. Who knows.

Might not be an issue. Norris and Russell said the new regs make it easier to follow through corners, but now they can't get a good slipstream down the straight to make a pass.

Yeah I did not expect it either but it's wild. I feel it's to put pressure into Russia by cutting them off from literally everything else but this sucks for drivers that have no ties with the Russian govt. Can't say that about Mazepin's dad.

Video with some comparison to the 2021 qualifying and race lap times, and also how the cars are ahead of their simulated lap times. By the end of season there should be minimal difference to the 2021 lap times as the 2022 cars are sorted out.
