I am all for another team on the grid, but part of me wonders why Andretti doesn't just buy out Gene Haas...

I'm guessing Dmitry Mazepin is going to try to buy out Haas.

Starting a new team, while really expensive, removes all the baggage associated with the prior team and you start with a fresh slate in terms of wins, races started, etc. Will be exciting if a new team could join rather than simply rebranding an existing team.

Oh man. Mario and Michael were my favorite Indy car drivers as a kid. Hope they get approved.

It would be cool if they did, I can't see Haas being there much longer. But Andretti has more resources than Haas?
I looked on Andretti's partners page and I don't see anyone there that would seem like a candidate to write a big check. Honda and DHL are already in F1. Gainbridge, maybe. Or they could field the Oh Boy Oberto beef jerky entry. Can't you just see that sponsor tent at Monaco.

VW Group.

Andretti has multiple investors.

I don't see why Andretti is doing this. He didn't last a full season as an F1 driver. He hasn't been able to win a championship as a team owner in a spec series in the last 10 years, and now he wants to enter a series that takes infinitely more money and engineering resources. I wish him the best and hope he succeeds, but I don't see him making it beyond lower midfield. The days of private teams are gone.

Whatever the reason, it will be fun to watch how this unfolds. It would appear he has done his due diligence to this point and has the financial backing if approved by the FIA. It's exciting for me and I hope he's successful. I think if he gets approved, it will lead to more opportunities for American drivers to make the grid in 10 years or so.

Guessing Alpine is one of the teams that pushed the gray area in the rules. Almost have a barge board and elements that push air outwards at the front

Also hope the front tire changer has a fore arm protector that pointy end looks sharp, haha

Does anyone use the F1 App to watch the races?

If so, how is it? Does it have the same announcers?

I was thinking of getting the Roku one.

Thanks

I watch with Roku, it's the same as a TV broadcast, so Crofty and Brundle.

Pretty awful news tbh, this looks bad on W Series as a whole. A champion shouldn't be back to defend it on a feeder series. Insane how Jamie, with the $1m she got from winning W Series twice, can't score a Formula 3 seat.

Meanwhile in Nascar, Busch Light is spending like $10M sponsoring all the female drivers for the next 3 years. https://www.marketingdive.com/news/busch-lights-new-ad-touts-growing-investment-in-female-nascar-drivers/618869/

I'm failing to see the issue here. Male drivers without talent have been backed with limitless funds before. If these entities see a business opportunity promoting women drivers then good on them.

I hope a few break through if talented enough.

Oh no I am all aboard the Busch Light deal, that's exactly what is needed in W Series tbh.

The problem right now is that W Series is a step on the single seater ladder. You don't see drivers in junior feeders coming back to defend their title because those series are meant to let them progress, and quite honestly it's pointless, nobody is going to spend an average of $2m on another Formula 2 season just to defend their title and risk losing. W Series is meant to expose all these female drivers and hopefully land them sponsors and opportunities to afford F3 or even a FRECA season, but when the one driver that has won both seasons now comes back for a third, giving up her super license points from last year in the process, it makes the whole series look pointless. They still got a lot of work to do and I hope it's soon as I fully believe some of them deserve to have a shot at an F3 or FRECA seat in 2023 (Pulling, Marti, Sidorkova come to mind).

Mind you, the "pro" of W Series is that nobody is paying to get in so every driver gets $$$ from the prize, but still looks bad when her $1M earnings from those two seasons couldn't get her an F3 seat. No idea how much Williams support her as part of her driver academy.

I'm glad this included lap counts or else there would be severe knee jerk happening

I'm sure we will get that regardless

McLaren officially the first team with any (on-track) technical issues. Norris left the garage and stopped at the end of the pitlane with an engine issue. McLaren rolled him back to garage, reset the onboard electronics and then sent him out again. Norris was then the first to crack into the 1:19's with a 1:19.951.

I guess it depends on how you define "technical issues" but Haas barely has 30-something laps due to problems with the floor, etc. They were also the last on the track this morning due to issues (coolant leaks).

I dunno about that - but it'll be fun the read all the 'articles' in the coming day doing just that.

I am not quite ready to put Ferrari up with Red Bull and Mercedes yet. Sainz and LeClerc really need to get a win or two this year.

Also, I would switch 6 and 7. Vettel and Stroll were somewhat disappointing last year and have a lot to prove this year.
