The rumors, indeed, have legs.
Jim Schlossnagle is set to be named the next head baseball coach at the University of Texas after three incredibly successful seasons at Texas A&M.
The news was first reported by Chip Brown of Horns247 and later confirmed by TexAgs' Billy Liucci and D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.
A career-altering move by Schlossnagle comes less than 24 hours after his Aggies lost Game 3 of the Men's College World Series Finals on Monday night.
"I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M," he said postgame. "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn't changed in my mind."
Obviously, something changed between then and Tuesday evening.
Schlossnagle, 53, was introduced to the 12th Man on June 10, 2021.
In three seasons in College Station, he took the Aggies to the Men's College World Series twice, reaching the final four both times and the championship series in 2024.
His A&M tenure controversially ends in infamy with a 135-62 record.

I doubt there was a chance to match the offer. This has been in the works for quite a while. A&M lost on Monday, they made the hiring known Tuesday. Schlos is following his AD that he was under at TCU. Doesn't anyone think this a BIG COINCIDENCE??!! stfu, you clown. Grahovac hit the ball hard plenty when he got out. He hit over .320 most the year as a true freshman before a late slump with breaking-balls. His batting-coach here sucked too. He's a fkn boss. He was the SEC Player of the Year and a future 1st round pick.Agthatbuilds said:

I think his output can be replaced.
Sorrell got better throughout the year and was one of our best at the end. Losing him is a real nut punch.

It was more than just the money. "I left my family." He came from TCU. That's Ft. Worth/Dallas. He made his wife move to B/CS. Can you imagine the culture change for his socialite wife? Now he's taking his wife to Austin. The State Capital. And the extra money is nice. He had every resource he needed at A&M. He's fifty-three. He's cashing out with the richest public university in the U.S. He's ready to retire, with more money and to make his wife happy. I'm an old school red-ass ag. I wouldn't have done it. But I understand why he did it. I don't like it. But I understand it. You all can book mark this post and tell me if I was wrong in 2 or 3 years. That's o.k.. I think he's going to spend a lot of time, with his wife, making her happy and enjoying the social life in Austin. His new-found money will certainly help that. I will predict this - he will never be as successful in Austin as he was at A&M or TCU. It's not about that for him and his wife anymore. It's about enjoying the rest of their lives. Honestly, if I wasn't a maroon bleeding Aggie, I probably would have made the same decision. In fact, I'm 59 and my wife is from a city of 4 million people, and I am making many similar decisions. I just don't need the money anymore. I've put my work ahead of my wife for years. My kids are grown and out of college. They have good jobs. I'm making decisions that make my wife happy now. My wife has put up with my career for a long time. I owe that to my wife. Again, I would not screw over A&M for that, but hey, he's not an Aggie. Paul Manari is a really great guy. I know him. He's had to make a lot of same decisions. It happens when you get older.
