During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the tennis courts, the diamonds and beyond as there is plenty going on with Texas A&M Athletics.


Women’s Tennis (30-1, 13-0 in SEC)
For the first time in program history, Texas A&M has won the SEC Tournament championship, completing the conference double, adding the tournament title to the regular-season crown.

The Aggies were a perfect 3-0 in SEC Tournament, defeating Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals before beating No. 15 Florida in the semifinals.

In the tournament final, the Aggies swept No. 14 Georgia, 4-0.

  • The Aggies won the doubles point, 2-0.
  • Tatiana Makarova defeated Dasha Vidmanova in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
  • Mary Stoiana defeated Morgan Coppoc in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
  • Jayci Goldsmith defeated Meg Kowalski in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).

After the tournament, Makarova and Goldsmith were named to the SEC All-Tournament team with Makarova earning Tournament MVP honors.

Baseball (25-14, 10-8 in SEC)
Jim Schlossnagle & Co. made a statement this weekend with a series victory over No. 4 Arkansas at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

After winning the series, the Aggies have officially cracked the D1Baseball Top 25, coming in at No. 21 in the outlet’s Week 10 poll.

No. 21 Texas A&M hosts Sam Houston this Tuesday night at Olsen Field.

  • First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on the SEC Network+.

Softball (26-18, 5-13 in SEC)
The Aggies made history this weekend at Davis Diamond as they earned the program’s first-ever series victory over Alabama, taking two of three from the No. 2 Crimson Tide.

  • Friday: Texas A&M 6, No. 2 Alabama 4
    • Trailing 4-3, the Aggies scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead.
    • Trinity Cannon: Two-run, go-ahead double in the fifth.
    • Makinzy Herzog: Solo home run in the first inning.
  • Saturday: Texas A&M 9, No. 2 Alabama 1
    • The Aggies exploded for a seven-run second inning.
    • It is the first time Alabama has been run-ruled by an unranked opponent since 1997.
    • Morgan Smith: Three-run home run in the second.
    • Herzog: W, 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

The Aggies return to Davis Diamond on Wednesday as they host Lamar for a non-conference matchup.

  • First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.

Track & Field
The Aggies won three event titles this weekend at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco.

  • Deborah Acquah won the women’s triple jump with a mark of 44-9/13.64m.
  • Lamara Distin won the women’s high jump with a clearance of 6-4/1.93m.
  • Men’s 4x400m relay team of Emmanuel Bamidele, Chevannie Hanson, Omajuwa Etiwe and Moitalel Mpoke won the even with a time of 3:02.23.

Men’s Golf
Brian Kortan and the Aggies advanced to the semifinals in the matchplay portion of the SEC Championships this weekend at the Sea Island Golf Club before falling to Florida, 3.5-1.5

  • In stroke play, the Aggies finished second.
  • The Ags will host an NCAA Regional at Traditions Club, beginning May 16.

Men’s Tennis (21-13, 7-5 in SEC)
No. 25 Texas A&M fell to Arkansas in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday, 4-1.

  • With the loss, the Aggies are now unlikely to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Aggieland.
  • The NCAA Selection Show is set for May 2.
