Well said. The snarky comments from vax towards anti vax only hurts. I am not anti vax but have been slow to get covid vax. I am getting close but to be honest the self righteous post make me want to try and prove I can win without.

Why don't we all just leave it alone and let the data speak for itself. Lift one another up and not bash. Not many hesitant vax
people are "anti vax" and most support those that got it. Many like me just want to see more data and time. If I was higher risk I would have gotten but I am under 40, 22.8 BMI and normal blood pressure (check daily).
I understand your thinking Plano and your numbers are very similar to mine, so I get it. I would talk to your doc and see what he/she recommends. I understand it's a personal decision, so just to share a bit since we're in similar circumstances as far as BMI and age (I'm 29). I chose to get the vax in part because my cousin who is also >40 and in good shape had a terrible time with COVID (lost 20 pounds, not in a good way), so it does happen. I realize that's anecdotal and it's rare, but I also hate missing work, so I thought if this keeps me from losing a week, worth it!

Missed the thumbs up emotion

I get it. I watch the stories. I am thinking about it but *******s whole are condescending don't help but actually hurt.

You would really make personal medical decisions based on your perception that people on the internet are being meanies? Really??? That's really shallow.

1. It is OK with me if he chooses not to wear and mask and give up his life.

2. I didn't read anything that stated his vaccine status. It's pretty clear in data the issues that we are seeing are pretty much with the unvaccinated crowd.

3. It is my belief that masks do provide some benefit (droplets) but by the time you stack the vaccine, previous exposure, social distancing, hand washing, etc. with masks on top the masks are minimal help at best. Those that understand risk registers and the probabilities associated with engineering, administrative and PPE controls associated with risk management control get this. Not to mention the limitations of the masks themselves. And, the masks probably decrease how careful people are because it gives them a sense of control.

It's not really worth debating the scientific side of masks, though, because people are already trapped in the moralistic or political positions. Are masks useful? In some case, but usually not IMO.

That's very sad but am I the only one who wonders about the go fund me? If you actively crusade for "freedom" shouldn't you be able to handle the consequences?

Eventually this is going to be an economic conversation. We all must make choices that aren't our first choice in order to live up to our family responsibilities, or at least we should. I feel bad for his wife, three kids and pregnant and seemingly without savings.I hope they have family to help out.

YMMV, but here on TexAgs and my Facebook Feed the snarky posts from antivaxers out number the posts encouraging vaccination by a large percentage. Plus the snark factor for the antivaxers is a lot more vehement and persistent.

I see people on the "anti" side as hesitant but rarely see them to shame those that get. I see far more shaming from those that got towards those that did not. Would love to see the examples of people anti who shame those that got.
Since you asked I went through my Facebook feed and one or two threads on TexAgs and got screenshots to prove that the "anti" side has been very ugly and condescending and attacks every positive post I've ever seen about vaccines.

Unfortunately every time I tried to post the screenshots here it won't let me, so you're going to have to take my word for the fact that these are direct quotes. I do have the screenshots and could PM them to you maybe if you don't believe me.

Example #1: (Facebook)
An implication of lack of faith in God for deciding to vaccinate, PLUS the lovely blaming for Covid cases:
"I pray to God that those who have received a jab, will not suffer any long term health problems from this experimental jab. I also pray to God that all of this sickness in the middle of the summer is not the result of people shedding because they chose to inject the poison into their system."

Example #2 (Facebook)
I must have "caved in" and let the government take control over me because I made the decision to get the vaccine" and another one implying lack of faith in God for deciding to vaccinate,
"Please don't cave in. You have the right to stand up for yourself as to what goes into your body. Question everything and know that there are other options for treating illness. Don't let the government decide what's best for you and your family. They will not stop until they have complete control. But guess what, there is hope. That's right I'm placing my trust in God. God IS the ultimate healer."
--- Interestingly this gal lost her son to cancer a few years ago. He went through chemo. Yep. That's right. He ACTUALLY injected poison.

Example #3 (Facebook)
Getting the vaccine is taking the "Bait"
-- in response to a post that someone's fully vaccinated husband died this guy said,
"So sorry for your loss. Makes me more determined not to take the bait."

Example #4 (TexAgs)
If you get the vaccine you've got your head someplace not so nice.
"There is no empirical evidence these do a damn thing other than have adverse reactions. Please pull your head from you're a$$."

Example #5 (TexAgs)
"Put enough fear into people and they'll fall for anything"
So, those of us who have gotten the vaccine are afraid and will "fall for anything." I didn't bother to get the number of times people on f84 are called "fear mongers" "sheeple" and "coronabros."

Another very popular opinion on f16 (and in all my antivax friend circles) is that anyone who suggests using a vaccine MUST only be doing it for profit and because they're totally unethical doctors/pharmacists/scientists. (I always find that one very strange coming from supposedly pro-business pro-capitalism republicans) Just take a look at any thread here and you'll see it. It's constant.

Like I said, this is a SMALL sampling of the stuff I see nearly every day. I finally unfollowed several people. I had already unfollowed all my "natural news anti-vaxers" before Covid, so these are new antivax folks berating vaccine users.

First off, I hope Rex and Jbob fully recover quickly without long term issues.

Second, I think that human nature is to not "be wrong", so once a person develops a viewpoint, it is emotionally difficult for them to "flip flop". I think healthy skepticism of vaccines in mid 2020 was well founded. They hadn't been tested and were developed very quickly. Since then, there has been overwhelming evidence that these vaccines are safe, effective, and serve the public good. If you are so ingrained in your positions that you can't evolve your views once you learn more and frankly see direct evidence of what can happen to people who aren't vaccinated, you're very difficult to help. I'd rather be wrong and live than be willing to sacrifice my life because I am so committed to not being wrong and "looking foolish". There is a lot of that on this board.

People can choose whatever they want, I just think they're making terrible risk management decisions if they opt not to get it. It's a lot like game theory.
You don’t trade for money, you trade for freedom.

Take moment to look at what "winning" and "losing" looks like here, and stop treating this like a game.

You couldn't just say something kind and try and support but you choose the negative and that specific face. You are the problem.
Sorry, that was me trying to be kind. I will try harder.

So pretty please, with sugar on top, get the ****ing vaccine.

People who are anti-vax and talk about having faith in God remind me of the old joke about the devoutly religious man caught in a flood. He sends away multiple potential rescuers in boats/helicopters, saying that God will protect him. After eventually drowning, he asks God in heaven why he wasn't saved, to which God replies "I sent two boats and a helicopter!"
