I wonder if they've had a jury trial in that courthouse, ever? Hard to imagine you could find 12 unbiased adults in a population that has been under 200 pretty much all my life (I'm class of '89).

Potton-Hayden House (Big Spring, Texas)

Joseph Potton (1847-1920), a native of England and master mechanic for Texas & Pacific Railroad, built this Victorian residence in 1901. Designed by the Fort Worth firm of S. B. Haggart and Son, the house was constructed of Pecos sandstone with iron pillars and zinc gable decorations. Potton, a school board trustee, and his wife occupied the home after he retired in 1912 and often entertained here. Later their daughter, Mrs. Henry R. Hayden, and her family resided here.

Texas Historical Marker 149
Dr Joseph and Sarah Pounds Farmstead
Dripping Springs, Texas

Originally built as two log pens (cabins) with a center "dog trot" breezeway. The Pounds had nine children, seven of whom lived to adulthood and were raised there. Four generations of family occupied the farmstead over a period of 130 years, until 1983. The family never modernized the home: in fact, the last living descendant to occupy the home in the 1980's never installed indoor plumbing; still using an outhouse and outdoor bathing facilities. The only exception is that electricity was added in 1947.
Joseph M. Pound first came to Texas in 1847 to fight in the war against Mexico. He returned to Kentucky to pursue his medical education, but returned with his wife, Sarah, in the early 1850's. In 1854-55 they built a two-room log cabin in an untamed area of Central Texas, present day Dripping Springs. With an abundant source of water and rich soil, Dripping Springs was a desirable place to stay. It is believed Dripping Springs was part of the original wagon route from Austin to Fredericksburg and so the Pounds may have passed through on the journey.
Settlers of the Texas Frontier faced many challenges, among them were maintaining peace with the Native American populations. The Kiowa and Comanche trail lies just southeast of the Pound property one of the most active trails in the State. However, it is rumored that Dr. Pound was one settler who never had a horse stolen by raiding tribes, for the Indians revered him as medicine man and friend. Dr. Pound enjoyed a close and lasting relationship with the local Tonkawa.
The Pound family envisioned a thriving, industrious and self-sustaining town and they worked hard to lay a firm foundation of community, education, and prosperity for future residents. As a founding family of what is now Dripping Springs, the Pounds were at the hub of community life, opening their house and grounds to serve as a medical office and hospital, church sanctuary, schoolhouse, and social gathering place

The Presbyterian Manse, Jefferson, Texas

The Manse is registered as the oldest house in Jefferson. This home was first owned by Gen. James Harrison Rogers, Esquire. General Rogers was an important figure in the writing of Texas' cessation documents which were signed at the home now named Secession Hall just one block away. In 1903, his family sold it to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for use as its parsonage. From this time onward, it became known as the Presbyterian Manse or the Old Manse.
Though owned by the church until the early 1950s, it was not always the pastor's residence. During the Great Depression years, the Manse is said to have been used as a boarding house and later as two apartments.
The Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club purchased the Manse in the 1950s, doing much to restore the property. In 1961, the garden club sold the Manse to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jurow. Mr. Jurow was a well-known movie producer (Breakfast at Tiffany's and Pink Panther series). They sold it to then CDR Laura Pace Omer, NC, USN, in the autumn of 1994.
