The head scratcher to me is Appel. Not that he signed but that he only got $122,500??? I think Appel, like Schott, had the best chance at getting another year to use as leverage. Even just the threat of it should've gotten him 150k minimum like Evan got or 250k like Ali got. Maybe there was some other incentive like a gold toilet or he gets his pick of seats on the bus that we are not aware of.
Or hey, sign with us and you immediately replace Martin M in the show because a dog turd can hit better than that guy.

I believe he has 2 COVID years. The 2020 season with the juco he was at, and the 21 season with the shortened Ivy season (my understanding). The waiver is likely on the additional year from NJCAA (which, I believe, is how he will be entering year 6 or 7 of college lol)
The rule is something along the lines of you can get the 21 season back "if your season was suspended or cancel by COVID". There is a list of specific criteria and some ambiguity in the rule but if your season was canceled and the athlete was eligible to play, should get the year back.
The Ivy League didn't play in 21 so it's assumed all of those guys should have a rubber stamped waiver.

I'd imagine someone like Burton may give independent baseball a try if they don't sign as a free agent.
