Oh wow what?
Were we expecting this? Seems a surprise to me. He's only a junior, right?
Wish him well!

Brauny had mentioned earlier on premium that he was looking to sign a free agent deal.
I agree. We'll see him one day.AggieBB said:
Really gonna miss Ali. Won't surprise me one bit to see him make it to the bigs eventually.

He never applied for his 2021 Covid waiver, so he did not have any eligibility left even if he didn't sign.tamc93 said:
Figured this would be coming, but kept holding out hope.

Montgomery, Sanford, Prager, Aschenbeck, and Wells are the only remaining unsigned players as far as I can tell.
I would not expect him back. Only 1 player taken in the first 10 rounds in 2023 did not sign; that's a 99.7% sign rate.Randy Rhodes said:Mr.Ackar07 said:

I'm assuming our only chance is Prager?

You certainly lose all negotiating power your final year of eligibility, but Senior draft positions might not tell the whole story. Many seniors (a) might not have been drafted at all as a Junior, or (b) might have been drafted in the 20th round and offered $1000. So the question becomes, "how important is your draft round to your ego?"AggieBB said:
Here is why it's rarely a good idea to return for your senior year:
The #Angels signed 8th rounder Randy Flores, 9th rounder Derek Clark and 10th rounder Ryan Nicholson each for $1,000.
Slot value for pick 232: $227,700
Slot value for pick 262: $197,500
Slot value for pick 292: $184,700
He doesnt have a chance to make decent money without leverageP.U.T.U said:
Think another big reason for Schott coming back was needing surgery hurt his draft stock. Still had a great year but if he can come back and do even better next year he has a chance to make some decent money. There are a lot of good hitters in college and one that has an unproven knee does not help him
Judging by some of his interviews, I think Schott is very aware of that. I love the fact that he transferred in and fell in love with this school. Reminds me of Jake Hubenak in a way.themissinglink said:
Schott is a great ambassador for A&M and I'm excited to see what he'll do next year (from a baseball view), but he's going to be 25 by next year's draft. He's going to have no leverage next year no matter how good of a year he has (he probably had very little this year). If he wants to try climbing the rungs of major league baseball, he probably won't make much more than a plane ticket.
11th-rder Trey Gregory-Alford signs w/@Angels for $1,957,500 ($1,807,500 counts vs pool). @MLBDraft record for 11th rd, most ever in pool era after 4th rd. Colorado HS RHP, fastball hit 100 mph in impressive Combine bullpen session, also has power slider. @UVABaseball recruit. pic.twitter.com/gZLAct68kw

Same. He was my favorite this year amongst a lot of great, high-character guys. Part of it was because his personality reminded me of Benny from The Sandlot.AggieBB said:
