My worry with Huss is defense. His High Point defenses have been indefensibly bad. High Point was 260th/226th in Huss' two seasons.

Oats has had some defensive issues as a result of his offensive style of play, but even at Buffalo all of his defenses were in the top 135 from an efficiency standpoint.

I think Lutz is a good solid choice. There's never a guarantee of success, but he's got a good mix of what I look for.

He's learned under multiple great coaches, has experience putting together a staff and a team, has taken a lower level program up a level (TAMU-CC).

If we can get him I think he's good.

Beard (to me) would have been a home run hire. I had zero question whether he would have won here or not.

I have yet to see another name that I would come anywhere close to considering a "sure thing" as far as winning here goes. TJ has certainly had success at Iowa State but lots of coaches do. I wonder what going to a school that doesn't typically prioritize basketball, like A&M, would look like. I also have a hard time imagining boosters ponying up the money needed to pull TJ and still have money left over for NIL.

Yes, most of our previous hires have been from the mid-major ranks aside from Buzz. We have also had pretty good success with those hires. For Basketball, I believe it is a good formula to follow.

Lutz would be a solid hire, but it won't win the press conference so half the people on these boards would want him fired after the first loss.

I also like his top assistant Miller but I wonder if he'd be a candidate at OSU. One of his other assistants (Cox) was an assistant for us for a year under BCG and then followed him to Kentucky.

It would be the same for anyone..............we eat our own

For me the other guy who could be on the list that I feel almost certain would win here is Jans. He's winning at MSU and I firmly believe we have more to offer from a support standpoint than they do. I believe our ceiling as a program is quite a bit higher than MSU.

I mean after getting people hyped up to text their sip buddies that we're hiring Beard nothing is going to have that same kind of hype factor.

But there's still really good options on the table.

Billy L says we can't get Grant M. Why other than just the buyout? Hard to believe recruiting or NIL in Lubbock better than Aggieland. He beat Houston on road without Tech's best player.

Agree. He won at freaking A&M CC. They were in the desert with wandering Willis Wilson for nearly 20 years. That dude NEVER made the NCAA tournament at any stop. Lutz comes in and they make the NCAA tournament 2 years in a row. OK State does concern me a little but we then again we are A&M. Before anyone jumps my ****, we don't have the cachet we used to. Our leadership is and has been a total mess with a revolving door for presidents, athletic directors, and coaches for the past several years.

Basketball recruiting and NIL are better in Lubbock than Aggieland.

Lutz being from SanAntonio gives us a leg up. Seems to be an up and comer with good resume
as an asst. and as a head coach.

Dusty Womble, Tech gigadonor.

Yeah Tech's not going to let another coach leave for an in-state rival if they can help it and in this case they can definitely help it. Unlike Beard and Texas there's no connection between McCasland and here that I know of.

I think its at least worth a try at T.J. Otzelberger at ISU. His new contract pays him $4 mil and his buyout is $4 mil. Make it happen.

Never higher than 9th place in conference. 8-10 conference record 3 years in a row. I don't think he's bad but hope we could do better.

His last two years though have been better than any that State has had other than that one year Howland got them a 5 seed. Torvik only goes back to 2008 but if you stack up all of their seasons his last two years are #2 and #3.

Three straight tournament appearances at MSU is an impressive accomplishment. I think he brings a really high floor to the job, with an unknown ceiling.

Chris Collins at Northwestern is interesting. Word was he almost swooped the Maryland job.

Think that is a good point about Jans having a high floor. He was won at every single job he has had.

Also, I would definitely be intrigued by Chris Collins as mentioned. I find myself intrigued by coaches that have won at places that have historically been hard to win at. Miss State and N'western both fit that criteria.

I define "proven" as someone who has ever coached a basketball game. Now I bet we do get a proven coach. You give me the power, I take it and make you a fool. HAHA

I still like the idea of taking a chance on a younger guy - like Florida did with Todd Golden - though he had head coaching experience at San Francsico - but was an able assistant under Pearl.

Luke Murray doesn't have the HC experience but was reportedly instrumental in UCONN success (with offensive focus) under Hurley. Back him up with offer to recently fired tu coach to serve as his AHC - as Terry is reportedly a good recruiter and may have already made some connections to in-state talent.

I'm all for interviewing Murray but yeah, you'd need a really good idea of what he has in mind for a staff.

You're also probably accepting that you're going to be awful for a couple of years.

I'd take that trade off just to have his father, who is one of my favorite people of all time, suddenly become a massive fan of Aggie basketball.
