Giving OU a free out by taking Moser would be very annoying.

Another name I thought of and I have no idea if they'd be interested and might be a weird fit, but Chris Mack?

Jans, Lutz and Olen would be fine I guess, but none of those guys are gonna excite anybody and might make next season a NIGHTMARE.

If you are Jans, why would you leave MSST?

A buddy and I talked through that earlier but I dunno, that thing at Louisville was bizarre.

The coaches and players can all just leave and change teams on a whim, so I dont see why "coach wont be here next year" is even a consideration in any form anymore.

Added Moser to the list. I bet he gets brought up, realistic or not.
He would take the job in a heartbeat

From that list, my top 3 would be Beard, Moser, Jans…in that order. I think Jans would probably be the most "Aggie" of those 3, which doesn't matter to me for hoops.

We should offer OU a straight up trade currently. They get Buzz and a fresh start, we get Moser with a lower salary and much lower buyout.

Yeah I think the realistic part there is whether we'd want him

I'd put Jans WAY ahead of Moser personally.

My comment on Jans from the other thread....

Quote:

According to Google, Jans is already making $4.2M/year. Why would he come here? We can't (and shouldn't) pay him anything enough above that to get his attention.

I don't mind that. I do think Jans would be the safer long term play. Moser would probably use us as a stepping stone.

It was bizarre, but I still think the guy can coach. Curious if he's able to adapt at the high major level to the new game, but there are worse options in my opinion.

TAMU >>> MSU

Speaking as overall, pretty comparable basketball wise.

Is White realistic? Seems to have Georgia headed in the right direction.
I liked him at La Tech.

We could definitely do worse but Moser doesn't do much for me. I hate how soft his teams play

Sweet. Sending over my app today.

I think for Jans you're just hoping he thinks it's easier to win here than Mississippi State or something.

If I had to guess I'd probably say he wouldn't be interested but he's on a very short list of somewhat proven high-major coaches that it MIGHT be possible.

Maybe realistic but would we want him? That's an interesting one I hadn't thought of though...

Stepping stone? He'd be using us as a get out of jail free card before he gets fired at OU.

When you look beyond the two seasons at Loyola, his track record gets really thin really fast.

Another one where I think we could do worse, but Golden coming in and immediately getting UF back to Donovan levels makes me question White for sure.

To be fair though, when he beat us in the NIT in Reed I was mad at the time we even let him leave the building that night.

I don't see Jans as an upgrade. He was fired at Bowling Green.
Coached at NM State and Miss State. Has won 71% of his DIV I games.
From Iowa. Likely go back to the Midwest when he can,

I just mean if each were to have success here, I think he'd be the one more likely to bounce

Moser coming here would definitely be Cuonzo Martin going to Cal

I mentioned several times that I hope we can find a coach staying with us long term and I was hoping that was Buzz (yet his professional history did not align with this vision). As a fan, it is getting weird to read all these national basketball analysts/opinion personalities talking about Buzz for multiple jobs. Buzz has said multiple times that he does not have an agent so it is clear that all rumors are coming from him or very close people.

It isn't easy to know what drives Buzz. It is clear that his family is the main thing for him. To some extent, that is the reason why it is difficult to understand why he wants to leave A&M. His wife and his family are from Texas. He has the 3rd highest salary when it comes to state basketball programs:

Scott Drew (Baylor) $5.1M
Sean Miller (Longhorns) $5M
Buzz Williams $4.6M
Jamie Dixon (TCU) $4.1M
Grant M. (Texas Tech) $3.9M

As of recently, he was the second-highest-paid coach in the state, only behind Drew, a coach with a national championship and multiple deep runs in the tournament. He has a pretty good contract with job security for three more years that guarantees him $13M (if fired).

In terms of privacy, College Station is not a basketball town that thinks about this program 24/7, so I doubt he is bothered much if he decides to go anywhere. Why float your name for the Indiana or Maryland jobs? These are two places where basketball is the center of their universe, just like football is for our university.

So he has job security, is well compensated, lives in the same state as his family, is not bothered when it comes to dealing with fans, and his program is part of the best conference...what else does he need?

My money is on Buzz staying put.

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep
to gain what he cannot lose!

I get what you're saying, but put me down as someone doubting he'd come in and find a way to be super successful when he couldn't do it at OU.

Which at this point isn't ideal. It's so awkward when a coach makes it known they want out

We're all in agreement here the covid season didn't count across the sport, so we don't have to acknowledge this.

You can't worry about the guy leaving. This is where the Kennedy search went wrong because Byrne's ego was hurt because two coaches had left so he went after one he thought we could keep.

You get the best coach you can get and then you do whatever you can to keep them if they win. If you can't keep them, then you hire the best coach you can find and try it again.

We don't want a coach whose dream job is A&M. We want a coach to come in and win and then we want to reward that coach for winning so that this job becomes the dream job.

Say it's true that Buzz is campaigning for other jobs …
Is there any way to deem that a breach of contract and fire him for cause?

Not that you ever want to do that, but the damage will be done in short order regardless, it will be really hard to walk this stuff back in a few days if he doesn't leave.

We all know he doesn't have an agent so this is all him/his camp. And I can't see him doing stuff like this just to get more $$ from A&M.

IIRC Jans' issue at BG was more of a Urban Meyer-like drunken woman fondling thing than a performance thing.
