24 yrs is a long time. He ain't leaving imo. Once you have been somewhere that long it's pretty apparent you like it and once you have enough to retire very comfortably why even worry about money any more?

I think it was Craig Biggio who said this… once you have $10Mm put away how much more do you really need? Now admittedly $10mm is a pretty big number but you have to remember the circle he was playing in.

If you're going the young energy route go get Joseph Jones. WAC coach of the year last year filling in for BCG. Current assistant HC at UTSA. Yeah, big step. But I have good memories of him playing here and that's all that matters.

Or if you want a good coach with experience go get Steve Forbes from Wake and bring AK with him.

I think A&M needs to go get an unknown commodity. Up and coming HS or D2 coach or maybe get a previous player that is an assistant someplace. Trying to get a high profile person probably isn't going to create long term success at A&M. If this was the women's team, I would go get Sydney Carter in a heartbeat!

If you're going to go to a current active D2 coach I'd say Jim Crutchfield from Nova Southeastern he's 56386 (.867) in D2. He just led Nova to their 2nd D2 Championship win, and in the last 4 seasons he's got 135 wins and only 5 losses. Problem is, he's a little older, but NBA coaches have raved about him before.

Next is Ben McCollum would have been the next hot hire after he just finished his first season from moving to D2 with Drake, but Iowa got him.

I live in Phoenix so I follow them some. He just bought a $7MM house near the mountain preserve and they sell out every game. Seems like he's pretty settled here.

Yeah , McCollum would have been a grand slam hire imo . Problem being he was gone before we had an opening and we still don't know if we have an opening or not. That's kind of the rub here, the coach's have all the leverage if they are performing well. Not sure we could have gotten him to leave that part of the country tho.

McDermott is also who I think would be a good fit but his ties to creighton are a big hurdle

That dudes offense is so fluid and efficient and built to not require multiple NBA levels players to run it.

Constant motion, moves the ball wings that can shoot etc

He would have us in the dance every year. Give him a decent NIL pool and bring in some wing type studs that can shoot Creighton always has and I think you have a perennial roster that is a threat to make the 2nd weekend every year

You can put feelers out to the whole country but both of those guys could have left a long time ago for jobs that are more high profile than ours.

Why do people just want to ignore his stint at Iowa State? That's a place where basically everybody wins and they were absolutely terrible under his watch.

Iowa State was actually pretty bad for like a ten year period under Eustachy, Morgan, McDermott, I wouldnt say it was only him.

Who said I was ignoring anything?

He wasn't good there. He has been very good at creighton. Hoiberg was up and down at Iowa state and very polarizing and been meh at other stops as well. Buzz was good his other stops and a big bag of meh here. It's all relative and every situation is different.

I'm not just hell set on him only but I do think somebody that fits that very successful mid major coach and has a good eye for offensive half court offense is the type we should be targeting. Someone that doesn't need 3 NBA guys on the same roster to implement their game plan and be successful

We don't need a top 10 paid coach to be very successful. Somone who has a good approach, can ID talent AND hire good assistants is all I want

What players? You mean those guys in the portal?

Eustachy got them 2 seeds in back to back tournaments in '00 and '01 including an Elite Eight in '00 before *everything*.

And even Morgan got them to the tournament once. He never had a losing overall record and won at least 6 conference games each year. McDermott only even won six once and only won four the other three years and finished below .500 overall each year.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach, I just think it's a question mark on the resume. What happened there?
