wrong state, Fayetteville, NC is his hometown. he was a guy who Buzz offered back when he was at VT though so there might be a connection there.

10 pts, 6 rebounds and almost 3 blocks per game when he was healthy as a soph. Would be a great fit for what we need in the post imo.

I have a feeling he will head to a blue blood, but I would love to be wrong! He's the perfect player to fill the void that will be left by Q.

Awww good to know. I've actually been to Fayetteville NC more times than Fayetteville AR. Fayetteville to B/CS is an easy transition. I think he would a great pickup.

Oh yeah.

On February 22nd I posted " Do we know if going through the post game handshake line Buzz told Oquendo that A&M wants him when Crean gets fired in 2 weeks?"

Hope Buzz got that message out early

We could even call him "Q" if he was cool with that.

If Crean is gone I'd like KARIO OQUENDO. A positionless guy at 6'4 who can score and rebound 16 ppg, 4.3 reb. He's a sophomore with 3 years left

Jabari Rice, 6'4, 180, New Mexico State, 11 ppg, 5 reb from Fort Bend Marshall. He's a senior so that's probably a "no"

Robby Beasley III, 6'3, 190, SOPH from Montana. Averaged 12 ppg as a freshman and hit 37% of threes and 82% of FTs. From California, so might stay out there.

Quote:

7. Andre Curbelo | 6-1 guard | sophomore | Illinois

One of the more complicated evaluations in the portal. If it goes right at his next stop, Curbelo could turn into an All-America-level engine of an NCAA Tournament team. It's not an exaggeration to call him one of the most dynamic ballhandlers and passers in college basketball, skills he showcased at an incredibly high level back in his freshman 2020-21 season. That year, he won the Big Ten's Sixth Man of the Year award for a No. 1 seed Illinois team, and averaged nine points, four rebounds and four assists. There was an expectation that he would take an enormous step forward and become the catalyst for a top-15 team in the country, with a terrific pick-and-roll partner in Kofi Cockburn. Alas, that didn't occur, and this is where the questions come in. Curbelo suffered a concussion early in the season and just never got right from there. He averaged seven points and three assists while shooting 32 percent from the field and 17 percent from 3. This is the conundrum: Can you get Curbelo back to his freshman-year level? The upside is high, but the floor here is that he's a backup guard. All reports out of Illinois were absolutely terrific prior to him suffering his concussion. Curbelo will need the right situation to get the most out of him. Maybe a return to the New York City area under expected new Seton Hall coach Shaheen Holloway makes some sense, given the freedom with which Holloway's man offense operates, as proven by Saint Peter's run to the Elite Eight?

Mark Sears is another player transferring from Ohio. Would love to add him (although he'll probably go blue blood). Crazy scorer.

Ohio was somewhat competitive this year but won't be next year I don't think since he and Vander Plas will be gone

Don't get me excited. Bates would be huge.
Gap
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bates has fully missed 2 of his 4 college seasons due to injury. He got injured this year in the 1st minute of the 1st game and was done for the year. His first year it was due to his left shoulder. This past year, it was due to his right shoulder.

Given his injury situation and covid years, would he have 1 or 2 years of college eligibility remaining? Other than the injury situation, there is a lot to like.

MarcAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He would have two years to play with the chance to maybe get a 3rd if he got granted a medical hardship.

Arkansas now has 17 scholarship players for next year. Hopefully that means they are done landing transfers

Fayetteville, North Carolina not Arkansas.

Jaxson Robinson might be on the chopping block if Arkansas lands too many more transfers though.

I'm guessing we probably look to add 2 in the portal. That will require some tough decisions for the staff to get 2 spots available.

So as of right now my dream 2 are

1. Manny Bates
2. A wing like Alex Fudge (not even in the portal at this time), Terrance Shannon or Tristan Newton

Big-time guard Nijel Pack (6'0, 180) from Kansas State... 17 ppg and 43% from 3 and 84% from FT line.

Shooter, not assist man. Took nearly 100 more shots than next player.

Has declared for NBA draft as well.

I've moved on. I'm all about Manny Bates. NC State coach says he is best defensive player he has ever coached. Has had issues with both shoulders so that is scary, but you definitely take the change on him

LSU 6'11 post Efton Reid in the portal. Freshman who averaged 6.3 ppg and 4.3 rebounds.
Gap
How long do you want to ignore this user?
When we played against LSU at home, Reid was the guy that LSU had that didn't look like any player we had. He totally changed the game on defense for them by his presence in the middle.

Reid was the only LSU player to start every game for them this year. As a true freshman this past year, he has 3 years of eligibility left. He was a 5 star and national top 25 player.

He is from Richmond, VA but transferred to IMG for his last year of high school. Perhaps there is a Henry Coleman connection.

He is only going to get better. Adding Reid would change everything about how we view our big's situation.

MarcAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm really torn on Reid and if he is a fit here or not. He is good, the talent level is not my concern. His quickness is my concern. He has to be able to defend multiple positions for us. Can he stay in front of a guard? He isn't a stiff, but he isn't exactly quick either. He's a MASSIVE upgrade over Brown and Henderson for sure. But if you have bullet to fire on a big in the portal, I think I might go with somebody with more quickness. The last thing I want is for us to have to change our defense as its humming right now and getting us wins

He probably ends up somewhere like Kentucky so probably doesn't matter anyway.
bobinator
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He can stay in front of them enough. Especially with the way we help on defense.

I like that he made quite a few 2's that weren't near the basket and even a few 3's this year. We need to create space on offense unless we get a lot better off the dribble and that would help.
