Kaluma was one I really wanted and thought he got away. He was close with Obaseki and Robinson. Would love if Manny could help reel him in.

A&M recruited him the first go-round.

We're definitely trying to add at least one more guy who would factor into the rotation next year.

A 6'1" CG? With Williams, Taylor, Gordon, Obaseki, and Diarra on the roster, you think a good CG type would be willing to join our roster? Seems like A&M's guard roster would look pretty crowded to them.

I could see maybe another good big wing willing to hop on board, but no so much a guard.

I agree. I was just throwing out that info. on the transfer thread since A&M was a finalist for him at one point and most of us know him from his high school recruitment.

I would guess they are looking for a 6-foot-5/6-foot-6 wing type with a good perimeter stroke who is quick enough to guard the ball.

Another one to watch- 6'7 Arthur Kaluma. Decommitted from unlv. Ranked 43. We were one of his top schools.. https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2021/apr/27/unlv-basketball-loses-top-recruit-arthur-kaluma/

With Coleman now in the boat, I would be surprised if they were able to land any more transfers who could be a significant part of next year's rotation. The roster probably now looks pretty 'crowded', so if another guy seems likely would be a developmental project willing to mostly ride the pine for at least one season. Kudos if they get somebody better than that, at this point.
Kaluma is a high school kid, right?

That is correct. As to Pumpkinhead's point, this will be a strange year. There will be more quality players than high D-1 spots. You've got a lot of high performing on low level teams moving up and grabbing high D-1 spots, and then you have high D-1 transfers also looking for quality high D-1 spots...and there is an over-supply. So you can have a crowded high D-1 roster and still be attractive to a desperate high D-1 transfer who thought it would be easier to find a new high D-1 team but is now scrambling for a life line.

he's averaged 33,29,33,33 minutes over 4 years so he definitely comes in with lots of high level experience.

He is going through the nba draft process. So no guarantee he will play college basketball this year

He was one of five players named to the league's all-defensive team and earned eight votes for the Defensive Player of the Year award in the ACC.

He is from Minnesota if home state comes into play for him.

According to SI, he's withdrawn from the NBA draft:

Steffon Mitchell has yet to decide yet after withdrawing from the NBA Draft and currently remains in the transfer portal.

Yeah have to think MN is the favorite; but if not can really sell him on stepping right in and being just what we need on our roster.

Minnesota roster is in much worse shape than ours. He's a for sure starter there. Here he has to compete against Henry Coleman unless we go small with 6'7 Coleman at center.

Plenty of minutes to go around for both those guys with sometimes both on the court at the same time and Coleman at the C.

Agree, but Minnesota has nothing. All the minutes in the world available up there. Heck they were so desperate they were hoping they could get Aku along with McNeilly and Miller.

Ryan Hawkins, 6-7 stretch 4 from Division II Northwest Missouri State. Shot 46% from 3 this season.
Quote:

The list of schools recruiting Northwest Missouri State transfer Ryan Hawkins, an Iowa native who dominated as a multisport athlete at Atlantic, is long.

It does not, however, include Iowa State and Iowa. Hawkins still has plenty of options. One very notable option is Kansas. Head coach Bill Self called Hawkins on Tuesday, Hawkins' trainer, John Lamb, told me. The Jayhawks have already dipped into the Division II pool with Missouri Southern State center Cam Martin. Now, they're going after Hawkins, who was Martin's opponent in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Hawkins was arguably the best player in Division II last year. The 6-7 stretch forward averaged 22.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 54% overall and 46% (87-for-189) from 3-point range, and he led NW Missouri State to a 28-2 record and the program's third national championship in his four years there. In this year's title game, Hawkins logged 31 points and 18 rebounds in the 80-54 win over West Texas A&M University.

Creighton is another school thought to be a major player. Hawkins is an Iowa native, but he grew up just an hour from the Omaha school closer than the two hours to Iowa State or three hours to Iowa.

Other potential high-major destinations to watch: Illinois, Minnesota, Georgia, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

Yes we need this kid. I don't see how we win that race though. Not mentioned in that article is he was defensive player of the year in his conference multiple years.

Here are Mitchell's highlights. He started hitting 3's later in the season. Pretty average vertical and not a big physical presence, but runs the floor well and has some offensive skill sets. Seems like a smart, scrappy player.

He's a senior so you don't lose a scholly for 2022 class.

Averaged 9 on a team from the ACC. Looks to play scrappy. Yes please take.

Although this is a lateral transfer, power 5 basketball is going to be crazy tough with all these guys moving around. Many top tier players from mids to major programs...

The Aggies on Tuesday landed a commitment from St. Joe's transfer Jordan Hall, who chose Texas A&M over Oklahoma and Arkansas, among others.

"I am committed to Texas A&M and coach Buzz Williams," he told ZAGSBLOG.

"The coaching staff wants to play position-less basketball and likes that I can pass, dribble, and shoot. I feel like I am a good facilitator and can thrive within their system."

The 6-foot-8 freshman from Wildwood, N.J. averaged 10.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 38 percent last season at St. Joe's.

He scored 15+ points in six of his last eight games, including a triple-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a Feb. 20 win over La Salle. It was the first triple-double in St. Joe's history since 2005.
