We need one of these "one and done" package deals.

Don't you need to know how many at-bats one has before you know their batting average?

Doesn't matter how many at bats you have it you have 0 hits.

Not if the game is in the 3rd inning.

Brooks is an Alabama kid, so we might see him next year playing for the Tide

That seems to be the theme of the portal. The good teams are the ones cleaning up.

Why not? If we are going to be a relevant program our coach needs to compete and perform like one.

Maybe this is the guy he breaks through with.

This is a guy that was ACC preseason player of the year. Those guys don't go to teams that won 2 conference games. I'm not saying that's an excuse for Buzz, because it's his team that won 2 games.

Where are money guys? They got burned with Cyprien and Keller.

Maybe Buzz could hire his dad for our open assistant coach position. Then maybe we have a shot.

Heard there will be a commitment this weekend, not at the level of Arkansas but solid midmajor player

I'm going to throw out a complete guess and say Xavier Cork.

That's a good guess. He's from Texas and the A&M basketball twitter account follows him. Maybe we need to hire you?

You aren't going bold with a Christian Bishop nod to A&M over Kansas guess?

This is the only Western Carolina mixtape I could find. This was from his freshman year.

Here's a better mixtape from his senior year in high school.

looks like Cork would be a solid pickup. 6'9" 235 may be a little generous but he certainly would add some much needed quality depth in the front court. I get a bit of a David Loubeau vibe from watching him. Not a real great athlete but solid game with nice touch around the rim.

He's a better shot blocker than anyone we had on the roster this year. Not exactly saying a lot since we were #323 in the country in blocks this year but he would help there.
He led the conference in FG percentage although he has made 0 three pointers in his career so he strictly a post player. he did hit a few 3s in those HS highlights.
He's consistent offensively which would be a great since we have exactly 1 consistent player on the roster at this point. Scored in double figures 20 times in 27 games and had 14 straight in double figures.

'Not a real great athlete' typically doesn't translate well in the SEC so hopefully your evaluation of his physical attributes is too low, or the guy better be super skilled basketball wise to make up for it. Otherwise he probably won't turn out too well for us.

I was curious who else was seriously recruiting this kid.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cowboysrideforfree.com/platform/amp/recruiting/2021/4/5/22362208/hoops-recruiting-who-oklahoma-state-is-targeting-in-the-transfer-portal

Apparently his final 7 included TCU, Oklahoma State, and a Virginia Tech in terms of other power 5 teams.

It doesn't look like any other other SEC school was going hard after him, which would make me nervous if that was the case. But I am of course currently traumatized by how poorly Marfo translated to the SEC (Buzz's last transfer).

I didn't pay attention to A&M basketball Twitter following him. I knew he was a sulphur springs kid and I know Taylor knows him from summer circuit even though they have a bit of an age difference. And he still has us in the running unlike everybody else in this thread who doesn't.

Creighton kid would be huge. Supposed to be great defender and great at defending much bigger players. But like you said Kansas fans seem to think he's a lock to them

Cork reminds me a bit of Scott, Bishop would be a big upgrade. If I could pick a second transfer, I would want a wing with some length - 6' 5" or greater who can really shoot it - Josh Carter type.

Scott plays a lot on the perimeter. Cork is strictly an in the lane guy. Cork isn't going to be amazing at A&M, but I'm all for him getting minutes instead ok Aku. So I won't be upset if we land him. I won't be like yes the piece we needed is here. But he can catch a dump off and finish at the rim. Aku can not do that!! The Aku FG% and based on where those shots were taken is one of the craziest stats I've ever seen.

And I agree we could use a wing. I would love to see like a 6'7 wing. But I'll settle for any perimeter player of any size that can score.

DJ Jeffries or Keon Edwards would fill the 6'7" spot.

Watching Aku this year was one of the more difficult things I've seen as an a&m fan. Just a complete lack of a feel for the game, awareness, confidence and skill. it was like freshman Junior Elonu without the athleticism to give you hope for the future.

There's a kid transferring from PV a&m who is intriguing. Freshman wing from NY who shot over 40% from 3 and averaged 16ppg.

Hopefully Robinson or Hefner can fill the role of shooter at the wing but definitely feel we need some experience there who has already proved themselves at the level.

Houston got by with two great shooters , Grimes and Sasser, but had two jack of all trade types with Jarreau and Marks. They did have 4 high energy inside guys they rotated frequently who were great rebounders on both ends, and decent back to basket offensively. Combine that with intense defense and they had a very nice run. Hopefully we will add another shooter and inside guy out of the portal and be dancing next year ourselves.

Aku's issue is his hands. He has some of the worst hands I've seen on a college post. It affects every aspect of his game. I disagree with you on a minor point. I actually thought Aku improved his awareness and overall confidence this past season. He seemed to play with more energy and was in position to make plays in the paint, but he he s hard time finishing off the play because his hands are almost non-existent.

It's a liability that is physical and not mental, so I don't see that ever improving significantly. Now,he's learned to compensate some. He's learned to corral an uncontested rebound, but fighting for the ball on a contested rebound or any kind of a quick pick and roll move to the basket...just ain't happening.

Cork is definitely raw and rough around the edges. He has some limitations, but I really like the energy and the attitude. He's like the complete opposite of Flagg who was more skilled but didn't play with energy. This program could use a guy that plays with a chip on his shoulder.
