I stopped getting plates a while back because i typically don't want two sides and would seemingly get better value ordering by the pound at other places. Plus when i go somewhere like Truth, i will want more for later. I certainly don't expect anyone to charge me for just a half pound if it's over, but i understand why they'd want to keep it straightforward and not deal with nagging customers who complain about it not being the exact price on the board. The black eyed peas were really tasty, by the way, and the turkey looked great. Next time, whenever that is.

My experience has been when the really good places offer plates, it's a lot better value than ordering by the pound.

Agreed. Truths two meat plate is about 1/2 pound of each meat, two sides (the corn pudding is the tits), and it's under $20 if I'm not mistaken.

I had a similar experience at Pit Room last night. The two meat plate had at least a half pound of brisket, a half pound of ribs, and two sides for under $15.

I voted against Truth. Blood Bros is legit, and the brisket fried rice is great.

Know it's not TM's fault because it's fan voting, but ludicrous 2M isn't in this.

Agreed. But it is based on popular vote...

"This first round is a qualifying round in which each reader can vote for three joints on each of the below lists. The first list is the top 25 new joints; the second is a selection from the top 50 list of 2017. (You'll notice only 37 joints on that top 50 poll; that's because we've automatically advanced our top ten joints from 2017's list, and three joints from that list have since closed.) The top sixteen joints from each list will advance into the bracket with 32 teams total."

So, there were only 6 "wild card" slots on the Top 50 side...

I bet Franklin doesn't win. If they do, it's because voters are just taking the (well deserved) hype at face value. My reasoning is that not as many readers have waited in that line compared to Truth or a high capacity place like Coopers.

Stopped at Tonopah Brewing in Tonopah, Nevada because the yelp reviews were pretty good.
The beer was great.
The brisket was possibly the worst I've ever had.

We just moved to Oregon, and I'm already missing Texas BBQ.

Texas Monthly Bracket is open for round two voting. Some surprising upsets like The Switch over Corkscrew. I'm also surprised that Reveille beat out Tejas. I guess the word is out.

We've got Truth vs. Franklin in a winner take all.

Reveille and Tejas aren't in the same category. Reveille is far superior.

Please seriously consider voting for Brett's Backyard Barbecue and Brotherton's in the second round. both of those guys are very close, personal friends and the barbecue that they are putting out is absolutely $100% top f*****g notch. I've personally learned a lot cooking with both of those guys.

Heim from the Brett's matchup and Coopers from the brotherton matchup. I figure if I haven't had them, it's fair to vote for your buddies!

Truth vs Franklins will be interesting. Leonard is an Ag so maybe the power of TexAgs pulls him through.

Not arguing that. But in the community they're in, Tejas is a much wider known commodity. I guess this poll is reaching more hardcore bbq people though.

Or individual joints are just doing a better job marketing it to their fans than others

yeah, relative to other places I follow, corkscrew is a non-entity on social media. I suspect that explains their failure to reach the second round.

I don't get your dislike for Tejas, they're freaking amazing. I haven't tried Reveille yet but if it's far superior I'd be surprised.

I've been to both. "far superior" is typical texags hyperbole, imo. I put them at a similar (high) level.

the chile relleno sausage at tejas remains one of the most remarkable things I've had at just about any barbecue place anywhere.

for full disclosure, corkscrew is my personal favorite place.

Another reason I know this isn't just hardcore bbq fans is because Brotherton's has no business beating Cattleack. No disrespect to Brotherton's but Cattleack is top 5 good.

Agreed on Corkscrew. The Q is amazing and their cobbler is just out of this world.

Really? I would have to disagree. I follow them on Instagram and see them posting all the time. They have 12 posts in the last 7 days on there so just a bit under 2 a day. They always post when they sell out. And have 14k + fans on there.... a quick check of their Facebook page that I don't follow shows the same.....

Then it might be a case of algorithm shenanigans for my feed. Interesting. When I've gone to look at them in the past they were always a week or two minimum from their last post.

Im sorry you had this experience. It helps to talk about it. I've had plenty of awful bbq in Texas - some I'm sure is worse than what is pictured there.

But allow me to present you tonight's spread from "Barbecue Night" in Nampa, Idaho:
