Just drove by. Parking lot full (not very big lot). People lined up, but doesn't look too bad

No kiddin between the pits themselves and the hoods that's some serious money right there

Got here at 8:40 and was about 12th in line. Line is about 75 deep now and really starting to grow. The place is incredibly impressive, especially the pit room. They went all out.

The hoods were the big delay in opening per my understanding.

Does Corkscrew run out of bbq on Saturdays usually? Was thinking about heading that direction from CS shortly

This is late, but yes, they do run out. Last time I was like number 27 or 28 and they were out of beef ribs about three parties before I got to the front of the line.

Made it a little after 2, and got lucky! All they had left was brisket, which worked for me. They ran out and closed before we finished our meal. Got a lb of moist, and a lb of lean. Both were great. Was really impressed with their pot salad of all things. Wife had the baked pot and it was a huge portion, enough for two people easy.

Nice! I kind of love their potato salad. A good garlic taste. I like it with a little of their side on top.

Their moist brisket is pretty awesome.

Went to Blood Brothers in Bellaire yesterday. Not sure how it compares to the other places discussed on this thread but it was pretty dang good. Definitely a good add to the hood. And, most importantly, they don't have their license yet so the beer was free.

I went to PAX South this weekend and missed the Louie Mueller discussion. I, too, found the atmosphere great and the BBQ less than noteworthy on my one visit three years ago. I doubt I'll ever return.

However! I did have BBQ twice over the long weekend. Once at Black's in Lockhart, where the brisket was the best I've ever had from them. My BBQ-loving (and smoking) friend agreed, and my aunt's mind was blown. Their pecan cobbler was once again so good that I ate it all, and I basically never order dessert anywhere.

I also went to Garcia's Mexican Food To Go in San Antonio. BBQ Snob wrote about it years ago on his website before he was hired by Texas Monthly. This is a tiny place for Tex-Mex which happens to sell extremely solid brisket. I get the brisket plate every time, which is brisket, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, and a tiny dab of guacamole that isn't nearly enough. Comes with tortillas, and the waitress recommends flour as the corn are store-bought. This place is a hit with my friends and I every single year. I forgot to ask for moist brisket but I still got some; one year I got served meat that was much leaner than I'd prefer. This year I got off my wallet and ordered a side of guacamole so we'd have plenty.

As long as I'm talking about food in San Antonio, Chris Madrids might have the best burger anywhere. The Cheddar Cheezy (or variants) is to die for.

Went to Terry Black's for lunch today. Opted to get a slice of lean in addition to my normal moist slice and was impressed. Might make the switch to lean from there in the future because the moist is way too rich. I like moist brisket from other places, but Terry Blacks makes me sick if I eat more than a 1/4 pound.

that brisket looks perfect. I would order lean too if thats what lean is.

Had Roegels for first time today. Was definitely impressed.

Brisket was the star of the show, but Turkey and Pulled Pork were also really good.

May try Truth tomorrow but not sure how crazy the lines will be.

Roegels is great and very close to the office. I like Fege's as well, but not as easy to get to.

They posted on Instagram they'll be open tomorrow. Let us know what the line situation is like. Trying to figure out if I'll be able to take some co-workers there next week on a weekday without wasting too much time in line.

Just to clarify, the slice on the left is moist and the one on the right is lean.

Roegel's ins't in my normal travel pattern but I've been there a few times. Russell seems like a great guy. Brisket is good, almost great, but the sides IMO are top of the mark. As good as anywhere.

Went by at 12:30 and the line was pretty long, had a meeting at 1:30 so didn't have time to wait, so will give it a go maybe Friday.

Going to hit Tejas this Saturday, what is a good time to get there? What is the line like?

Is anyone else wondering how Vaughn and Texas Monthly are going to come up with an updated Top 50 in the next few years?

I feel like they may be able to do a top 10 and then highlight the best in certain towns and cities, but to limit the list to 50 is going to leave some incredible talent off. There is SO MUCH good bbq in Texas now.

It makes you wonder how it took so long for really good barbecue to become widespread. People just had no frame of reference I guess. Although as a kid I remember thinking that you just didn't go to a restaurant if you wanted good barbecue.

I remember my parents had a brisket smoked for my graduation and how disappointed I was because every brisket I'd had was slightly less tender than shoe leather, and the first time I had Rudy's, I was amazed at how good the brisket and sides were. And yes, I'm from Texas.
