Leonard had a watching party tonight in Houston and it was a lot of fun. Very cool to see him win and proud of him. We'll see how he does next week!

Whats the timeline on opening up the new Truth?

They're doing work inside the building now and actually on a timeline, so goal is hopefully by the end of this year. A lot just depends on the city inspecting and approving things

Also Esaul Ramos former LA BBQ Pitmaster and 2M owner is also on the show as well.
2M is really good! My only knock against them is that instead of offering barbeque sauce, they have barbeque syrup, which really is kind of like putting pancake syrup on your meat. Given how sweet many sauces are, it's not quite as crazy as it sounds, but c'mon, man.

I would absolutely go there again sometime.

Y'aal see the new Texas Monthly? All the Kings Men rated 2 stars by them.

I wouldn't put much stock into that, looks to be just plain Texas Monthly, not Texas Monthly bbq. Doesn't look like one of Vaughn's reviews.

Not to mention:

but we were carried away with the brisket: the beef combined the kind of tenderness and smoky flavor that points to the skill of a true pitmaster.

Find it hard to believe they would make that comment and still give it two stars. Sure, if you are comparing it as a true restaurant it might get a worse rating for not having nearly as many choices for main meals and sides. But as a bbq place it has all the staples of brisket, ribs, sausage, etc. plus plenty of good sides.

Long story short: I think either someone put in the wrong rating or something like that. Try it for yourself if you haven't already been, I can tell you it's good and hands down better than Fargos at dinner time. Need to get back to Fargos at lunch and see how their quality is doing these days.

We have tried it, and liked the brisket. Does ATKM have a pit offsite or something? Did not notice one anywhere when we went. Fargos used to be the place to go, I admit it has been a while since we have gone as well. Hopefully they are getting things back up to their standard.

EDIT-SORRY THE EMOTICON WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A THUMBS UP

ATKM doesnt really suffer from the food. It is the prices compared to others. Personally I would rather take the trip to Truth and get better food and sides for the same price including gas but I like small road trips compared to many others

I heard about a week ago they were aiming for late September or early October

I think that's a very optimistic timeline but we'll see

Texas Monthly's 2017 Top 10
1. Snow's - Lexington
2. Franklin - Austin
3. Cattleack - Dallas
4 Bodacious - Longview
5 Louie Mueller - Taylor
6 Texas Chocolate Craftory - Tomball
7 Corkscrew - Spring
8 Micklewait - Austin
9 Evie Mae's - Wolfforth
10 Truth - Brenham

4 Bodacious - Longview

OK, here is how I know this isnt serious. My oil tank farm is right near this joint and we eat there often. It's fine, but by no means would I mention it to anyone.

Clearly they are trying to diversify geographically, but this is laughable compared to Killens, which might actually be the best in the state.

It is a very specific location of Bodacious. The one on Mobberly near LeTourneau. None of the "chain" sites like Henderson count.

Bryan Bingham bought the location on Mobberly a few years ago and his doing his own thing.

Not sure where your office is but make sure you are commenting on the right location.

What wadd said. This is a solid top 10 list and I might advocate a few adjustments, but every one of those places is deserving of a spot on the list - even a year later.

All of the Bodacious joints are individually owned and operated. The one on Mobberly is tremendous. The Hallsville location is the only other one worth noting. The others are somewhere below Rudy's.

Take a detour to the Mobberly location next time, you'll change your tune.

I'll say it again since we're discussing the Top Ten - my one trip to Louie Mueller in Taylor wouldn't have gotten it into the top 50. Incredibly bland, disappointing brisket. Fantastic sausage, FWIW, but no one grades a place on sausage alone.

Having made nearly a dozen trips to LM, I think you need to go back and try it again. Maybe it was an off day, but I truly believe they are one of the Top 3 in the overall meal experience!

First off, no way Killens should be in the top ten based on my 2 visits. Bodacious off Mobberly was much better than them IMO. There's other places I'd put Top 10 over Bodacious but they're still pretty dang good.

I went to the one by Good Shepherd mistakenly and thought the list was crazy but then was corrected.

I agree with this. Killen's has fallen off a little bit. Top 20 good, but definitely not top ten good.

I share your unpopular opinion. My in-laws live in Taylor and I've been dozens of times. Incredible atmosphere (one of my favorites in all of TX) but the food rarely lives up to the hype. Once or twice I've had it and thought it was very good but consistency seems to be an issue. I'd much rather drive 30 miles to Snow's.

Our opinion is shared by another guy I know who goes on frequent BBQ road trips.

Blacks sucks, Kreuz sucks, and Lockhart in Plano sucks!

PS: Brisket on a stick is over rated anyway.

Agree on Black's and Kruez... Last time I had Lockhart it was pretty good (been 3-4 years.)

I have been to LM BBQ 5 times, and every single time it was very good. The last time I went (August 2017) it was incredible. Based on my experience I think they are top ten worthy, and the only place in this state I'm ordering a beef rib no matter what.

Now the Lockhart trio on the other hand....

I'd suggest the same tack on beef ribs if you get to John Mueller's Black Box BBQ in Georgetown...

Hoping to hit Corkscrew next Friday on our way to CS. We probably wont get there until 2pm. Will they be sold out of everything? Any good backup suggestions not too out of the way from IAH to College Station?

I like Blacks, but it's merely borderline top 50 for me. I'll go back because the food is good and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Only been to Kreuz in BCS but it was fine. Legit Texas BBQ but not top 50. I'd only go back if someone else wanted to go.

If we're talking the Lockhart Smokehouse I thought it was in Dallas proper, not Plano, but I was terribly disappointed with it. Wouldn't go back.

2PM is hit or miss. Some days they're open until 4 or so and other days done by 2.

Some will say Tejas in Tomball (on the way too) but I'm not a fan. Been 4 times and the best thing I can say is there was never a line. The sides were better than the meat those 4 times.

Ditto on Tejas though I've only been once. I plan on giving it another try but it just wasn't amazing - definitely not Top 10 worthy based on what I had that day. Hopefully my next visit will be different.

Looks like Corkscrew is pretty quick with the social media updates so we'll just cross our fingers.

That's a good plan. They're good about posting when they're sold out. It's worth chancing it as it's not far out of your way. My experience echos the 2-4 sell out suggested above.

However, I'm a big advocate for Tejas. I just don't know what they'd have left that late in the afternoon, I only eat there on Saturday mornings. It's terrific.

There's really not anything else "on the way" that's worth your time unless you want to swing through Houston proper.
