It's near my office too, I went a few weeks after they opened. Maybe they've gotten better, but when I went it was pretty bad. Closer to a Dickey's BBQ than anything on the Top 10 list.

Well that's not a good endorsement when Dickey's is comparable! Thanks for info. I still might give it a try.

I've got a bbq buddy (one of the first 10 to complete his passport) that was raving about that place even before they were on the list. I've checked the yelp reviews in the past and they're not good. But man, he swears by it.

Gonna try Franklin's this fall. I think I'm good on understanding the line and wait, but what is the seating situation? Do they regulate that? Like if a couple of us wait in line for food and a couple more people join us to eat, will we be able to get a table? I don't want to be one of those asshats that camps on a table while people with food have nowhere to sit, but I'd also like to know that that isn't a big concern for when I get to the front of the line.

To restate, is seating an issue after you get your order?

Eat your bbq off the tailgate of your truck like a real man.

In all seriousness , last time I was there t wasn't too much of an issue as people sort of get done by the next time the next set of folks are ready to sit.

Seating is in and out... my suggestion, if you find a seat. take it. BBQ is a communal meal... be nice!

I'm definitely open to that. Just don't want to be stuck standing around while the food gets cold!

This is actually the least awful clickbait article I've seen from a publication like this about bbq. https://www.thrillist.com/eat/nation/best-bbq-in-america

I've never had an issue finding seating at Franklin Barbecue. They cycle people in and out pretty well.

I had a client that's been raving about this bbq truck in Carrizozo, New Mexico. I finally made it out to try it and it was some of the worst barbecue I've ever had. Owners are from Dallas and I wish they'd stop telling people they're from Texas. But the locals actually love it. They carved the slices from a wrapped brisket and then put it on a flattop to heat it back up, dumping water on top to try to inject some life back into the meat.

It was bad. I never know how to deal with clients in these situations. They're so excited. "How was it?" He asked. "Oh. Definitely better than the ribs for sure" was my honest reply.

I also hit up Desert Oak Barbecue yesterday during lunch. Small spot, but a small crowd. The line moved quickly despite this being the best barbecue for hundreds of miles. It was SOLID. Brisket was B+ range. Ribs were a bit too saucy for me, but well prepared. I thought the pulled pork was the best of the meats. They make their own sausage and it's a good link. And being in El Paso, you know their rice is a solid side.

Pictures weren't great on this run.

I've been to Mad Jack's. Solid BBQ from a Texas Barbecue Missionary from Lockhart. Definitely expect a wait. I think it's easily the longest barbecue line in the state. But it's worth it. If you're in Cloudcroft, you're probably not in a hurry.

Family was in Cloudcroft at spring break and hit up mad jacks as well. Had low expectations based on other Texas style bbq joints in other states. It was really good even at 2:30 when they had started to run out of some items. Also can attest to the no one is in a hurry in Cloudcroft. Everything takes about 3 times longer because everyone is super nice and talkative

Good to hear about Mad Jacks. I've known the owner since he was a kid. Grew up in Lockhart.

Anyone tried Texas 46 BBQ out by Spring Branch? Cuatro Kowalski is the owner who also owns Freedman's. Austin Fry and LaVon Grant are the pitmasters.

Also had some our SA Branch workers say Big Bib BBQ is a place I need to try. When I go to SA I always hit 2M.

Someone mentioned new BBQ joint coming into CS. Here's the info. Sorry it's not a good one.

Cooper's Old Time Pit BBQ to open 15,000 square foot College Station Restaurant

EDIT: Very smart of them however. I bet they'll kill it there and compete well against Kreuz.

In all honesty both those guys were out of their element and if it was a BBQ smoking contest, both those guys would crush anyone from the other states in the contest.

20 minutes for short rib and 30 for brisket? Yeah. That sucks.

I looked at the wife and said "I'd grab a grinder and make a burger" on the brisket...

Was pulling for Leonard but would have been happy for either of them.

For as much as he was talking about Texas pride he could have at least displayed the flag right side up at the end.
And never watching the show before I'm assuming the whole concept is to do everything on the clock. BBQ just doesn't really pair very well for this kind of competition. Will be interested to see how it works against the other states.
wadd96

Yeah, I missed the flag thing... A BBQ friend mentioned it...

But I know Leonard personally... He is a proud Texan... Also, the production staff should have caught it and re-shot that...
