I've not been to All The Kings Men yet. I've heard mixed reviews, but mostly fairly positive. Pork Belly Burnt Ends seem to be the hot item. Looks like a cool space for sure.

Anybody know what the line is like at Cattleack on the first Saturday of the month?

Anyone else notice Pit Room's brisket isn't as good as it used to be?

Still decent/good but not really good and far from being great.

It is still my go to BBQ place since I live nearby and I love the setup/sides/other meats.

Looks a little too hipster-y for me. "Craft" has become such an overused buzzword.

I went last Thursday and got there at 1035 and we sat down to eat right at an hour later. Hope your experience is better than mine.

That's a good bourbon selection if they can maintain what's in the pictures.

Cattleack is adding a to go only line with no minimum order. Could be huge for us in DFW as I'd be more than happy to take it with me for a much shorter line.

I didn't see Bill Miller's on the top 10 list.

Plenty of places do this. Hell, La BBQ does this.

Thanks. I will have to stop by when I'm ever in the area code.

You attach "craft" to anything and I'll definitely be a little more interested tbh

I'm probably the opposite, I'm with Cstrickland, just sounds too hipster-y off the bat for my tastes.

But to be fair mickelthwait probably ruined it for other places as they have it in their name and I haven't been impressed at all with them. So that's probably the biggest source of my prejudice against "craft".

And if they're starting out at $23/lb for brisket they better be bringing their A game everyday

Their website reminds me of the "Brooklyn bbq that changed the world" place. Looks like it has great reviews, so who knows.

This could be its own thread, but to me "craft" just doesn't mean anything anymore now that everyone and everything has a "Craft" product. I don't want a craft artisan snow cone. What even is craft bbq? Low production numbers using quality ingredients? Just like everyone else out there that's worth a damn?

Anyway. There has been a lot of activity at Truth's Houston location the past couple of weeks. Guessing they got past whatever was holding them up

To go line is awesome. Was first in line at 9:40. Doors opened at 10:20. Two minutes later I'm headed home.

Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the to-go line if you have to stand in line as long as you would to get food to dine-in? Wouldn't you have been near the front of the line at 9:40 even if you were dining in? I went two weeks ago and got there at 10:35 and was eating an hour later.

I would have been 15th in line for dine in. I think it's more beneficial for the folks who show up later. Some folks who would have been 40th in line for dine in were only about 10 places behind me for take out.

Went to Terry Blacks with a fellow texagger, it's still legit even at 3:30 in the afternoon. Brisket was great, ribs are very good but a hair too sweet IMO. Sausage was excellent and peach cobbler amazing too. Definitely deserves to be top 50 after my experience today.

Aight gents. I'm going to be coming through Austin on a random Tuesday in a couple of weeks and I'll likely have time to spare in the middle of the day. Not sure I'll have time to camp out at Franklins (although I might), but if not, which other place should I hit if I've got time for one stop?
Aggie1946

I'd go to La Barbecue, Valentina's or Terry Blacks. Depending on how much time you have. You can always pre order La barbecue.

So help me out on how much time I'd need for each? This would be a Tuesday....middle of the week....early June.
Aggie1946
How long do you want to ignore this user?
La barbecue if you can get there an hour early like 10am maybe an hour wait. If you pre order then no wait. Most likely 2 hour wait if you just show up mid day but it could be shorter/longer. The other two most likely won't have a long wait at all but Valentina's is South Austin and Terry blacks is right in the middle.

3 or 4 times. Consistency probably isn't their specialty, but I've had some really good meals there. In my opinion it's definetly worth a stop.

Anybody else pickup the new Texas Monthly bbq magazine that just came out this month? Had someone who subscribes give me theirs for free and have been reading through it. Unlike the top 50 list magazine last year that still had other non-bbq related articles in it, this one is 100% bbq and nothing else. One section is just a reprint of the top 50 article but it has several new articles and sections like top sides, top deserts, bbq history, and 10 newcomers most likely to make the next list in 3 years.

10 new and notable joints are:
  • Guess Family BBQ in Waco
  • Black Box BBQ in Georgetown
  • Black Board BBQ in Sisterdale
  • Smoke Session BBQ in Royse City
  • LeRoy & Lewis in Austin
  • Texas Ranch BBQ in Austin
  • Nelson's BBQ in San Antonio
  • Ferris Wheelers Backyard & BBQ in Dallas
  • Brotherton's Black Iron BBQ in Pflugerville
  • Pappas Delta in Webster

been trying to get to black box while visiting my in-laws in Georgetown for a while now but just haven't been able to make it work yet. Hopefully this doesn't increase his lines too much.

Surprised to only see one Houston joint on that list, but I guess places like Feges have only opened up very recently. Need to go snag a copy at HEB.
