Kansas City. I just ate at Franklin, La Barbecue, and Micklethwait a few months ago. I preordered though and would like to actually eat at the restaurant. Franklin just posted a few days ago they should be open in around 2 weeks.

Well.....2021 maybe. They don't do the list every year. Have seen a few good reviews for there though. Might have to try it out.

First visit to Truth since the Top 50 list came out. Arrived at 10:25 and was about 10th in line. Probably 25 people in line by the time it opened - including some large orders for tailgates.

Truth is the opposite of Snow's on Saturday mornings. At Snow's, you get gobs of Aggies - at Truth, everyone was in burnt orange.

The food was as good as always. The moist brisket led the way. Tried the pulled pork and it was straightforward, but very good.

Truth is one of the few places I'll agree to dessert and the banana nut bread cake was fantastic.

It's all very good, but Truth is still outside my personal Top 10.

Interesting, I think truth is elite and in my top 5 after the two times I've been and it seems like several guys on this thread have had similar experiences. What held it back from being top 10 in your opinion?

I'm not saying it's not good. In fact, it's very, very good. I've just never had a mindblowing bite.

And what I've learned from this thread is apparently we all have different tastes

Going to Cattleack today boys.
Jealous. Just signed up for their e-mail list. Hopefully that is what AG 07 is talking about when he gets e-mails saying the line isn't long. Haven't been in a few months but I've got to go soon.

I forgot to post about how awesome this place is. I thought BBQ this good was only found in central Texas or in someone's backyard. These guys are great at what they do and well worth the wait. I got there at 9:40 Friday and there was around 40-50 people ahead of me. Opened doors at 10:30 and was eating around 11:00.

Brisket and beef rib was as tender as can be with a great bark...one of the best things about the BBQ here. Their spare ribs are some of the best I've ever had as well.

If y'all haven't tried them, it's worth the extra time. Absolutely amazing.

For me, truth is probably #4 for me as far as Brisket I've tried

I'll say Cattleack and Snows tied for 1 and 2, then 2M then Truth very close at 3 and 4 (haven't had any of the other top 10s, although they are on my list)

At Truth, the pork ribs are too peppery in my opinion and that's why Cattleack beats them out (didn't have ribs at Snow's) and the Brisket just doesn't have that mind blowing bite as mentioned before. Something about the way Snow's and Cattleack cook their brisket that the fat renders perfectly and its delicious that I didn't get with Truth.

Ill be in Austin next Thursday - if Franklin not open, what do you guys recommend between
La BBQ
Lamberts BBQ
Mickelthwait

or Other? Considering LM since Taylor is not too far from Austin.

What would wait times be at any of those places on a Thursday?

For brisket, my vote would be LA BBQ. It's just slightly behind Franklin's for me.

La Barbecue or LM. You can't go wrong with either

Definitely La BBQ. Also consider Terry Black's or Kerlin. Last time I went to LM I was a bit disappointed.

For BBQ I think LM is one of the most over rated places in the state...except for the beef rib. The atmosphere is awesome however if you're a TX BBQ history person. Really cool place to go to once.

If not Franklin, I'd hit La BBQ or Micklethwait. They're right around the corner from each other, so you could do both if you'd like.

Valentina's, Freedman's, and Kerlin are all a notch above Lambert's too.

I had la bbq and Franklin back to back about a month ago and thought the fatty brisket was slightly more mind blowing at La. Lean was better at Franklin.

Rudy's closed by health dept because of roaches

I remembered the conversation on the thread earlier about using rudy's as a measuring stick to judge if bbq was below or above average (which I agree with). but yall might want to stay away from the one in CS for awhile......

Never really understood why people get so freaked out about roaches. They're "big" compared to most bugs but that's about it.

Is it gonna kill anyone? No, probably not. Would I prefer to not have bugs crawling and sh**ing all over something Im about to eat? Absolutely.

Probably will end up at rudy's again at some point, someone sent me the article so I figured I'd post it for a heads up.

Has anyone been to Snows in the last few weeks? Wanting to make a stop on the way from SA to Kyle on Saturday. Just wondering what time we would need to get there. Thanks!

I talked to the owner maybe 3 weeks ago. He said there were around 125 people in line at 6am. There were even a few that parked there Friday night and slept in their vehicles.

Then he gave me his card and said if I was willing to pay cash, I could call my order in mid-week and skip the line. I need to take him up on that soon.

Kerry is pretty awesome! He did this for me as well before, but I was wanting my boys to have the Snow's experience. I am not getting up that early!!! I may call and see about having a cash order ready!

a few months ago got to Snows at 8am on the dot and I was way back in line... out of ribs and chicken by the time we ordered. I would get there at 7am to likely have all the stuff on the menu or even before

Finally got to hit up Blue Moon on the way back into town. While good I wouldn't hesitate to drive the extra few miles to Truth every time for BCS

Brisket was a bit dry and chicken wasn't good at all IMO. Got the bean pot and cowboy cornbread as sides for later

Had dinner at Pinkertons tonight. Those pork ribs with the glaze might have been the best I have ever had. The beef ribs & brisket were solid, not excellent. Overall I would have Pinkerton's a notch below Corkscrew & Tejas for best Houston que, but it was damn good.

Better than Pit Room?

Pit Room is the best in Houston (proper).

Grant Pinkerton is a great dude. I'm so pumped that he's killing it.

Went to Brotherton's Black Iron BBQ in Pflugerville for lunch today. It's mainly a BBQ sandwich shop, but you can also order meat by the pound. Decided to order meat by the pound today and was very impressed. He makes some great BBQ, one of the better options in the Austin area.

Like I mentioned they mainly focus on sandwiches. Pictured here is their Reuben, Philly cheesesteak, and the Pfat boy which is like a fried chicken bacon sandwich. All of them are great and all meats are smoked in house. My favorite sandwich (not pictured) is the Brisket kimchi bahn mi. It's outstanding. The kimchi is fermented by the chef for a few weeks, so it's packed with flavor that cuts through the fatty brisket perfectly. Also potato salad and collards are money.

Made the trip out to Lexington, TX to try what Texas Monthly proclaimed the #1 joint in Texas, Snow's BBQ.

I'd recommend getting there half an hour to an hour early.
