Gotcha. Does that mean the line was gone bc they ran out of food or that there typically isn't a line if you go later in the day?

The email was a picture of their front door with no line at 12:36 PM that said simply

"Get in here!

Cmon in! No line"

Now Fridays are normally more popular for them but I would be willing to give tomorrow a shot around 1 PM if I was off work. It is too far of a drive when I am not.

Got to Cattleack at 10:40 and the line was inside to the exit door. Guy at the door said it's slow for a Friday.

Especially since the TM article. I went before they were ranked #3 on a Thursday and the line was out the door at 10:40. Can't wait to go back and try it again.

I got there around 10 and only had to wait for 5 mins once they opened the doors. Line seemed much shorter than I expected even if I had shown up at 1030.

Thought it was great. Had the brisket, sausage and beef rib, with collared greens and beans. Also tried my friends pork rib and mac and cheese and crack cake.

Thought the brisket and beef rib were phenomenal. Thought the sausage was okay but I'm not a huge sausage fan. Thought all the sides and crack cake were great. The mac and cheese has a great kick to it.

Only thing I didn't care for was the pork rib.

Damn that's unfortunate. Wonder how long this puts him out of business for and does he keep the same location or find a new one?? Glad I was able to go there a couple of months ago.

Seeing reports that the restaurant itself is okay, just minor smoke damage. Pits damaged.

Is it really smoke damage if it's in a BBQ restaurant?

While this thread is entertaining, the future of BBQ sounds even more tasty! As the article says, No living, breathing animals to raise!!!

Quote:

Billionaires Bill Gates and Richard Branson march into a "clean meat" future. Memphis Meats Inc. said this week it has raised $17 million in Series A funding, and Messrs. Gates and Branson put up unspecified chunks of it. The company cultivates meat alternatives in labs from animal cells that reproduce on their own. No living, breathing animals to raise and slaughter means meat products can be developed more efficiently. It's one possible way forward for traditional meat companies, which are under pressure to treat their livestock more humanely. Mr. Gates has also invested in Impossible Foods, which produces meat alternatives from plants,as Fortune notes. A rival, Beyond Meat, also has funding from Mr. Gates. Psst! The future is not plastics, not silicon, but laboratory foodstuffs.

Meanwhile, I found this WSJ article very interesting. All the meddling we did with nature to remove natural fat to make leaner hogs because we know better. Now, people are desperate to find fatter hogs. Because bacon.

Ate at blacks in Lockhart today with some customers. My piece of brisket was literally the last piece they served from an older one, before cutting into a new one for the rest of the guys that I was eating with. So consequently while my fatty piece shredded too easily and wasn't the best, most of the guys that I was with had pretty good slices of brisket on their plates. Ribs were pretty good, but not super outstanding or anything.

Overall I'd still say they are good, and would probably put it in the top 50, but it definitely does not come close to the other top 10 places I've experienced.

Shout out to Kent Black's in San Marcos. My family and two other families were temporary Harvey refugees. We stopped by on Thursday for lunch and they could not have been more hospitable. The brisket, beef rib, and spares all were on point. As a former part-time comp cook, I'm very critical of spare ribs; but, these were extremely solid. The manager and pit master went out of their way to welcome us and the kiddos. While the food was excellent, their friendliness and hospitality, alone, warrant a return trip.

**Just realized they're not on the Top 50 list and probably the wrong thread...Regardless, great food**

I picked up 2M this weekend on a Sunday. so skipped the line. Need $100 order with a half down deposit. And pick up between 10 and 1030. I called like 3 pm the day before and there was someone there to take my order.
Upon arrival You just go in through the exit on the left side of HEB building to bypass the line (took me a minute to figure out where to go)

I arrived at 10:20 and figure there was maybe 25 people in line.
Brisket was great. I'd rank it somewhere between cattleack and truth.
Ribs were lacking- dry and tough - but had a nice sweet hint to them. Their sauce was very interesting almost like syrup. Their sides mediocre , tortillas were decent and made for an awesome brisket taco.
Disappointed they weren't doing barbacoa but they said they may start again sometime soon.
The guys there were super friendly and seemed like good dudes.

Is Fargo in Bryan worth visiting at the end of the day? If possible I'd like to grab some for dinner as I get into town after work on Friday, but wasn't sure if they run out of the good stuff or not

It's delicious but at that point in the day, I think it'd be unfair to have top expectations. Still better than what I can get in my town though.

What Bulldog said, its usually still pretty good, but dont expect top notch stuff late in the day. The biggest thing I would warn you about is to call before you go and make sure they still have food. I dont know if they increased their production when moving to the bigger building or not, but right before the move they were running out of stuff mid afternoon again since the new TX monthly list came out. I tried two different times later in the day even on weekdays and they were out of stuff.

Got an email from Cattleack around 11:45 that there wasn't a line. I hadn't eaten lunch so I grabbed the wife and boogied on down there (it is about a 20 minute drive from work). Waited maybe 15 min to order and once again it was spectacular. Brisket, Pork Rib and Pulled Pork were simply awesome. Jalapeno Cheese Grits and Mac and cheese were great. Wife wanted to try the mild sausage even tho I advised against it, and we maybe ate half of it. Sausage just is not their thing.

Damn excellent. In fact up until him I hadn't found a pulled pork I liked as much as my own and now I want to take some elements of his and incorporate them into my own!

Jealous. Just signed up for their e-mail list. Hopefully that is what AG 07 is talking about when he gets e-mails saying the line isn't long. Haven't been in a few months but I've got to go soon.

Planning on getting out to Truth on Saturday. Haven't been since last football season.

Went to Bludso's in Los Angeles last weekend and it was very good (B+). The ribs were the highlight. I still think Maple Block is a tad better.

Terry Black's was great once again. Got the butt end of the brisket which was great, ribs were perfect just like every other time I've been. I still rank it 3rd in Austin behind Franklin's and La Barbecuea. Consistently good BBQ and is very accessible.

OK Fellas. I had to postpone my cue' trip but have it rescheduled for 21-24. We land in Dallas early Thursday and are going to hit Cattleack right when they open and then possibly Miller's Smokehouse and Louie Mueller on the way out to Austin. Friday we will drive to 2M for our first stop then Hays Co on our way to back to ATX and top the day off with La Barbecue. Saturday wake up super early for Snows and then Truth. Sunday Valentina's early AM, Black Box on our way back to Dallas and then Hutchins before we fly out late. A few of the stops like Miller's and Hay's Co are just maybes. I realize this is a ton, haha.

It look's like Franklin may be back open by these dates so we might end up doing that Sunday morning.

Hit up Black Box today. I realize it isn't in 2017 Top 50 but it will be next year. Just night and day difference in quality from my experience at Blacks a few weeks back. Had fatty brisket, sausage and cheesy squash. This one enters my top 3.
