busy yesterday, so walked in to Miller's, ordered a brisquit sandwich to go, lean,...came out in maybe 3-4 minutes, back in truck, ate.

Spent maybe 12 minutes tops

As good as always, and couldn't eat anywhere that fast, except convenience store pre-packaged crap

Truth run was a success. Got there at 10:45, were probably 15-20 in line and sat down to eat by 11:20. The line stayed pretty lengthy but people who showed up at 11:45 as we were leaving probably weren't going to wait more than an hour. People in line did say it's a different story on Saturday or Sunday....

Brisket was fantastic and ribs weren't overly peppery like last time, still not Franklin good, but very good. Easy to see how they are top 10.

The spread.

Ten 50 made top BBQ list in America according to Southern Living, only spot in Texas to make the list. I've been going there for years and it's incredible, I hope anyone in DFW goes there and gets their brisket and burnt ends; they are perfect.

That list is their top place for each state, so obviously only one will make the list. I would also contend that 8/10 regular folk making a "50 states bbq bucket list" would have Franklin at the top.

While I agree on Franklin's, my point was Ten 50 didn't even make top 50 in Texas according to Texas Monthly but another reputable source thought them among the best. Just an interesting observation. A lot places make lists based on hype, story, and marketing instead of actual products; that is the world we live in though. Ten 50 is some of the best I've ever had

Very good article. I have been there way too much and I only order brisket, burnt ends, and okra. Ribs are hit or miss so I don't mess with them. Torpedos are good as well. I love salt and crust so their brisket is perfect for me.

yeah, I goofed, whatever

went back yesterday @ 2:30, out at 2:35, same story. Spoke with Mrs. Miller for a moment, she was busy, said she was going home shortly.

I don't quit either, headed down for supper now, I like being 3-5 minutes away, except during rush times, it takes longer to park than drive there

Had the Pit Room for lunch yesterday. Brisket was great. Jap cheddar sausage was beyond great. The sides didn't really look all that great, but I had some great Mac n cheese.

I really like the pit room. May be my favorite BBQ place. Their turkey is also really good. Another note on them that I really like is their menu. Most BBQ places charge by the 1/2 pound, so if you want to try 3 meats it's going to cost you $30. Pit room has a three meat plate with sides for under $20.

While the price is by the half pound, I've never had a place tell me they wouldn't do a quarter pound of a certain meat.

San Antonio finally has elite BBQ. 2M's Brisket was outstanding, near perfection. The ribs were great, and I loved the chicharroni macaroni and cheese. Absolutely delicious. I thought the Pulled Pork was average but who cares, this is Texas, good PP is just bonus points. I got the Serrano and Oaxaca cheese sausage, and it was pretty good with unique flavors. Their pickles were outstanding too. 2M is without a doubt elite, and probably in my top 5 based off of the experience I had today!

Had a sliced brisket sandwich from Valentina's in Austin the other day, best brisket sandwich I've ever eaten. Kind of expensive at $9, but delicious nonetheless.

Yeah, the menu is just an indication of the pricing. You can order by the quarter pound if you want. Sometimes I order by the rib. They can do the math for you.

Valentina's Is legit but I agree their prices have increased. What a cheap BBQ option that under the radar but puts out great BBQ then go to Brown's BBQ off S. Lamar.

Killen's was our Saturday destination. Got there about 10:20 and were about 30th in line. My pictures are in the below tweet:

In addition to the typical items and the Wagyu burnt ends, we got some of the gold grade brisket (at $30/lb). The lean gold grade brisket was the best item on the day. These high grade meats seem to shine on the lean end because of the fat content. It introduces more fat into the lean end and that fat, once rendered, makes the ribbon of meat more silky. On the moist end, the difference was less apparent. The fat may have been a little more luxurious, but it's a tougher comparison because all briskets carry such a high fat content on the point.

It was worth trying, but as good as it was, I doubt I could be convinced that the gold grade brisket was worth the $8 premium. They're already using prime meats at Killen's.

I also FINALLY got to try out Come & Take It BBQ in Alpine. It was fine. The pulled pork was very good and the green chile hominy was a really nice substitute to the typical mac & cheese. The completely trimmed brisket was average at best.

Anyone have wait estimates for cattleack for either thurs or Friday? I will have an all day meeting Friday 2 miles from there and I can't NOT go right ? Just gotta figure out if I can cut out of the meeting long enough to stand in line.

On a rainy Friday my sons were 10th in line a little after 9am and they opened a bit before 1030. Best to have someone drop you off since parking is a challenge.

Going to Franklin's tomorrow for the first time. I'm leaving at midnight to be there at 6:00 a.m. My b-i-l and I plan on eating lunch there, purchasing brisket, ribs, and sausage for 16 people, then head back home and have dinner with family.

My wife and brother think that I'm crazy, but that's the way I am. We will go to Buzzie's in Kerrville or other bbq joints for the day and drive back home. It's usually a 600+ mile round trip.

I've done the Franklin's line waiting but if I were ordering mainly to take home, I would opt for the pre-order and skip the line.

Yeah, I wanted to do that, but reading TexAgs in the past and calling Franklin's a couple of days ago, pre-orders right now have a six week wait time for pick up.

If you're taking a lot all the way back to Kerrville for dinner, try to have them not slice the meat that you're taking home with you into individual slices, and get them to wrap it tight. It'll be better quality that way after sitting in your cooler for a few hours.

Are there any good bbq places in the Kerrville/Fredericksburg area? I've had Cranky Frank's, which was ok but not great. I've been to Buzzies once and thought it was a step below Bill Miller's. Any hidden gems near there?

Ate at Louie Mueller's again today, a little bit of an off day for here. Brisket was still solid but a touch too fatty for what you usually get, although it still had a good taste and held together well. The pork ribs were nothing to write home about, just average.

Still a good lunch, but not quite the quality I'm used to from him. Pitmaster himself was slicing for the line today, nice guy. Peach cobbler as always was fantastic. Had a decent line but from walking in, to sitting down and eating was about 15 minutes and I got here right at 12.

I was just in Austin last weekend and hit Micklethwait, la Barbecue and Franklin. la Barbecue had the best moist brisket I've ever had. Lean was mostly great. Their ribs were a little lean and probably a bit over cooked but the flavor made up for any of that 10 fold. Their sausage wasn't great imo.
Micklethwait was some great Q. Brisket was very good. The lean was cut pretty thick and not very evenly. Ribs were great. Sausage was a bit cold in the middle. Overall it was really good but Franklin and la Barbecue were better.
I had pre ordered Franklin 3lbs brisket, 1lb ribs, 1lbs sausage. Probably the best lean brisket I've had. The moist was also amazing but just didn't have the rich flavor profile of la Barbecue. The ribs were close to la Barbecue. Sausage was by far the best. I took the order to the park next door and ate immediately.

Heading on a TX Barbecue road trip in three weeks. Going to hit Pecan, Cattlelack, Truth, Snows, 2M, La, and maybe Mueller or possibly try and sneak into Franklin late.
